Hope to see you there!

Content Update 1.1 - Big Mo

Hello all! We're very happy to announce that Leap of Fate's first major content update is now out.

New content

- A new playable character : Big Mo, the cyborg technomancer. Big Mo comes with a unique set of starting abilities, including a mighty energy beam with 3 levels of power (regular, burst and overheat), an arcane mortar glyph that blasts all enemies in a radius, and Bait as his basic shadow walk ability. Big Mo also features 10 permanent upgrades to unlock. I think you'll find him quite different from Aeon.

- Achievements: 50 new achievements, mostly consisting of unique ones for Big Mo, but also a few new achievements for Aeon and for the general category. We also implemented v1.0 of a new panel that suggests achievements when you start a game.

- A new batch of cards and items: The Deck of Fate now includes gold cards which are more beneficial versions of the regular ones, trap cards that turn the tables on you, a sacrificial altar which let you sacrifice health to upgrade your glyph or get a new one, and a portal card that let you skip to the next level. As for items, you can now find clockwork keys in the shop. These new cards will pop up from time to time, to spice up your use of the Deck of Fate.

- An improved Hard mode: This mode is not quite finished yet, but we just made it more interesting. We added elite creatures with high damage output, new combat modifiers to vary your fighting experience, and we gave a delayed regeneration ability to all creatures so that you can't take your time too much. Stay tuned for more improvements to Hard mode in later updates.

- New Options: You now have the option of changing the game's key bindings. We also added a VSync option.

Changes to existing systems:

- Removal of Easy mode: That's right, following the tutorial, the game now starts in Normal mode. This a big change, and it may turn off less-experienced gamers, but we felt it was the best thing to do for Leap of Fate. The main reason is that Easy mode was a slowed-down version of the game, with many cool features locked until Normal mode. In theory, that should have created a nicer learning curve, but in practice, it gave a bad first impression by downplaying the game's strengths.

- An overall balancing pass to Normal mode. We are in the process of trying to find the sweet spot for difficulty, especially now that we removed Easy mode. Mostly, we want to make Normal mode a little easier, so as to not be overwhelming to new players, while letting experienced gamers graduate to Hard mode relatively quickly and still use Normal for achievement farming.

- Aeon's list of permanent buffs was modified, to give him a unique flavor compared to Big Mo, and to balance the two. Aeon lost Lightning Strike, a health upgrade and Last Stand, but gained Wheel of Fortune (reroll the shop), Tactician (+1 charge) and Spontaneous Combustion (DoT on creatures after shadow walk). We feel that these abilities fit him more as a flexible and generalist character.

- Glyph damage now increases automatically in a session, as you reach higher levels of the Deck of Fate. The reason is that the basic attack and shadow walk usually increased in power a lot because of skill upgrades, whereas glyphs tended to start lagging behind after level 3. Now they progress much more similarly.

- The level 5 boss was improved. We removed his special attack which was not very interesting, and added a reflective aura instead. He is also much quicker than before, but with less health.

- Bosses are now partially resistant to CC (slows, stuns, etc), and are affected for only 33% of the duration. We did this because it was extremely easy to perma-stun/slow a boss and just run over it. Now, these abilities are still usable on bosses, but the fight remains a challenge.

- A polish pass on the tutorial. In particular, we removed the placeholder voice acting of the NPC, and replaced it with subtitles. We'll put some new voices after our next VO session.

- We added a written description for the bonus cards and clockwork key (to see, click on the small pack of cards next to your character's health bar, while in the Deck of Fate).

- A balancing pass on glyphs, mostly to make the least popular ones more playable, such as Path of the Initiate, Portable HAARP emitter, Apocalypse Now, and Penance.

- Many obscure, minor or not so minor bug fixes.

So I hope you guys enjoy the new update to Leap of Fate. Make sure you leave comments to tell us what you enjoy and what changes you'd like to see.

Bye for now,
The Leap of Fate team

What to expect from patch 1.1?

Hi everyone,

Here's a little update on Leap of Fate's development. In the past few weeks, we've been hard at work on a new content patch that is scheduled for the 21st of August. Its main elements are:

- A new playable character : Big Mo, the cyborg technomancer, with unique attacks and upgrades

- New card types for the Deck of Fate, including gold cards, trap cards, a sacrificial card, etc.

- A whole pass on Hard mode, including elite creatures, new combat modifiers, and more

And I'd like to end with a big THANK YOU to those of you who played the game and left feedback. We really hope you like what you see so far, and that this new patch and the following ones will make the game even more enjoyable for you.

The Leap of Fate team

Welcome all to Leap of Fate's Early Access

It is our great pleasure to start this new phase of Leap of Fate's development, after one and a half year of work and playtests.

The game is completely playable and relativelly polished for an Early access game, so we're pretty confident that anyone who tries the game now won't be disapointed by its current state. What's missing are extra characters, new content, more polish and better balancing.

And we have many patches planned for the rest of the summer, so new content should be coming in regularly. Stay tuned !

Hope you enjoy Leap of Fate :-)
