Update #1.3 - The Long Awaited Fix

After a month of a game crashing bug, we have finally fixed it! We are so sorry it took so long and will be explaining it all in this update. We hate to let gamers down, especially when there was nothing we could do about it. That made us feel worse about it.

What was the issue?

The game would crash immediately after starting up. But it only effected Steam copies of the game

Why did it happen?

Usually, a game crash is caused by a huge bug or error. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

While there are many who consider Legena to be made in RPG Maker, it is in fact made using Game Maker Studio. Now during the Steam SDK updates, they threw YoYoGames out of sync when it came down to the version numbers. So much so that not only was Legena effected by this issue, but a lot of games. Every game on Steam made with Game Maker Studio could have or was effected by the issue if they updated it.

Unfortunately for us, our version 1.2 was subject to the later. I spent many nights trying to figure out what was wrong only for it to be discovered just two weeks ago. I feel so bad for YoYoGames as they usually do a stand up job on their work but it was such a big failure that they had to post up a notice in their release notes advising people to update their SDK and Game Maker

Game Maker Studio Release Notes (see Version 1.4.1711)

And even after the issue was patched up, the problems still reigned over poor Legena and other Game Maker made games. I had emails every night with replies from YoYoGames to solve the issue. Fortunately last night, a success patch was made!

Ok, so how do I fix it?

  • Go to your Steam Game Library
  • Right Click your "Legena - Union Tides"
  • Select "Delete Local Content"
  • Proceed in deleting the content. It will wipe the slate clean. Your game saves should not be harmed
  • Reinstall Legena

We have got members of our team and gamers alike to test it and it should fix it up! We have heard that Steam Beta has been known to cause issues too.

Where do we go from here?

Even though we had no control over this issue until now when a fix was made for Legena, we felt awful about it. Especially when you were all so kind and accepting of the issues when it was discovered to be a Game Maker issue than us.

So here at Grandpa Pixel, we are making some changes. Firstly, we will be giving our new Social Media guy access to the Steam Groups. That way, we will be able to keep you up to date on bugs and their fixes. We are all about feedback and community so we want to do better! In fact, we aim to upgrade the website, Twitter and Facebook groups too.

Secondly, we are assessing where Game Maker's software lies in our development plans in the future. We have considered moving to C# and other languages after Legena 3 but given the situation it has led us to debate whether we should bring it forward. Perhaps even to Legena 2 if possible!

Last, if anyone is still experiencing the issues please email us at support@grandpapixel.com. We will help you all we can and in the event we can not fix your Steam version will provide you a Steam-Free copy of the game. Fortunately this was never troubled from the bug. We plan to support Legena 1 for the next six months to make sure that it is as bug-free as possible

How is Legena 2?

The engine is done! We are now designing and working on the content! After all these troubles with Legena 1, it's nice that we can end this post on a great note! On top of that, we are going to be looking for a Video Editor to start recording our development progress just for you!

We also plan to make it feel much more superhero like. The way the NPCs respond to you, the boss fights, the dungeons. All of it will feel like you really are playing as vigilantes. We have requested feedback on the ideas and they were really positive about the way Legena is going.

You won't be disappointed with Legena 2!

Happy Gaming!
Jeremy of Grandpa Pixel (Really sorry... :( )

Update #1.2

Rejoice adventurers! A new update has been made!

I am happy to announce we have just released the new update which will now allow you to change the window size using the Options menu! Happy days!

We have also made some graphical improvements just for you!

Just in case it does not automatically update, you can delete the local content (Right-Click the game and click "Delete Local Content") and just reinstall. That should do the trick!

We hope in the next few months to make more improvements and show you how your feedback is improving Legena 2.

Happy Gaming!

It's 2016! Time for Updates!

Hello budding adventurers!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We have been hard at work here at Grandpa Pixel. The last two months have been busier
than ever! We have taken on a number of new people. Testers to refine our gameplay,
a marketing guy to make Legena a big thing and a script editor to improve our
story telling.

Legena 2 is well underway but we are also applying a new patch this month to Legena 1.
It will improve the graphics a little and allow you to toggle screen sizes by the
Options menu. A heavily requested feature! We hope to have you with using these new
improvement in the next week.

We are still working on the Mac, iOS and Android ports of Legena 1. It has not got on
as smoothly as we predicted but we are not
giving up!

Legena 2 is a big deal for us. It is not only our second game and our first sequel, but
it is a chance to show how we are listening to our fans and make a brilliant series. For
instance, one fan suggested the idea of having a feather fusing system to make more
interesting spell combinations.

You can fuse Feathers to make more interesting spells as
well as fuse Zoning Feathers to increase the range of the Feathers. The screenshot above
shows just how a single Fire spell now has 5 variations depending on the Zoning Feather
fused to it.

We aren't just looking at new features. We are also looking at ways to improve the current
formula. We have already improved what we had with Legena 1 ranging from non-grid movement
to the way the menus work. We are also looking at ways to improve all of the following:

-Story Dialogue - We want to make it feel more cinematic rather than a long conversation
-Character Development - We are aiming to improve the character development. Starting with
Feather Fusing.
-Elemental Weaknesses and Battle Strategies - This is something we will be looking into!
-Towns and Cities - With Legena 2, our focus will be to make them feel more lively. To feel
like a proper town!

We have our work cut out! But you have given your thoughts and we have listened! We hope
you will look forward to Legena 2!

Happy Gaming!

Update #1.1 (Well that was embarrassing!)

Hello adventurers,

We need to apologise, the last patch actually broke the game! It's ok, we have fixed the problem and it should no longer be an annoyance.

So what happened? Well somehow the code for the graphical effects got overwritten. I am still scratching my head on how it happened that but it was a 5 minute fix. This is why junior developers, you should always back up your code. Life saver!

To patch the game, delete the local content (Right-Click the game and click "Delete Local Content") and just reinstall. That should do the trick!

If any bugs like that appear, let us know and we will fix it!

Update #1

Rejoice adventurers! A new update has been made!

I looked into all the feedback we received since day 1 and most of it we are using to improve Legena 2! And it is already having a great change on the game engine! But we also wanted to update Legena 1.

So what did we update? One great piece of feedback was that when buying weapons/armour it would be nice to see if it would improve your character's attacks. We completely agreed and implemented it in!

We also spent some time tuning a few backend functions as well as tweaking the dialogue. Hopefully this will improve the experience.

We have also noticed that people are having difficulty increasing the window size. We are aiming to fix this in the next patch.

Just in case it does not automatically update, you can delete the local content (Right-Click the game and click "Delete Local Content") and just reinstall. That should do the trick!

We hope in the next few months to make more improvements and show you how your feedback is improving Legena 2.

Happy Gaming!

Launch Day - Hope You Like It And Let Us Know What To Improve On!

Hi everyone!

Today is our first big venture into professional game development. It has been two years of hard work. Hopefully it pays off.

I wanted to say thank you for viewing our game and an even bigger thank you to those who bought a copy. It is only through sales we can make bigger and better games. We have many more we want to make!

But we can't do it without you and we want to keep you all happy. One way is to listen greatly to your feedback. It is through the feedback that we managed to fund our game in our KickStarter and gain a chance to release it here on Steam. It is by listening to you gamers that allows us to improve and learn lessons.

So we want to continue listening to the feedback. And already I am seeing reviews that give ways to not only improve this game but take away and apply from our second game. Many thanks to all who gives us feedback!

Legena: Union Tides is more than just the start of Time Travelling series, it is a starting block. A block we (Grandpa Pixel) can step from in a pursuit to create strange, unusual but great games that challenge the genres they are part of.

I think you have had enough of me babbling for now. Thanks for taking the time to read this and let us know where to go in terms of improvement from this game. I have a notepad waiting for your ideas on how to improve.

Happy Gaming!
Jeremy
