Hallo Legionnaires, I’ve made a short video on all the improvements I have made so far after getting valuable feedback from our early access launch.
These new features add tremendous strategic and tactical features to the game, which means our old campaign levels will fall away and new campaign levels are being designed that include all the features of the current engine
With allot of players struggling to defeat the AI with the first chess like campaign, I will soon be releasing a set of videos with commentary that will take you step by step through the old campaign and what tactics were required to best the AI
Update 0.23
New Cover System
We introduced a new tiered cover system. What this means is foot soldier can take cover behind any suitable object. Cover will be either light or heavy cover and light cover won't protect foot soldier from artillery or missiles.
Action Point System Upgraded
Legions at war can be used to play chess like games like into the breach where units typically only have one action point. The engine however can be also be used to play Xcom styled games where units have multiple action points per turn. We upgraded the AP system to make it easier to move units multiple AP per turn but still also play chess like games with 1 AP.
New Scale System
With the coming updates we will add allot more units that are scaled to take up multiple tiles. This allows for some interesting maneuvering capabilities and correctly scales the large arsenal of units 30+ to real world examples.

New Animation System

We scrapped the old animation system and developed a new system that in future updates will offer us more flexibility with custom animations. Units now better respond to their surrounding environment. Made a video with a few short clips
Open Source Server Code for Tournaments
Another big update, we will soon release all the server code as Open Source. Legions at War can be used to build games like Into the Breach, Xcom, Chess and many more. It is for this reason that we want to open up the server code so that communities can host their own tournaments and type of the games.
As part of our eSport initiatives for turn based gaming, players can enter tournaments buy buying tickets. Winners of the tournaments will share in majority the spoils of victory and server hosts will share in the revenue of the tournaments.
We are finalizing multi server code and all server hosts need to sync with the main server to ensure game and player data integrity. We ask anyone who wants to get involved in these testing phases to please contact us

Environments
Environments can damage, heal, cripple or support units. You can simply paint any specific environment after or before units have been placed on the board.
Some environments are also spawned after the attack of specific unit. The large nuclear weapon now leaves fallout clouds that damage health. The ION cannon, after attack create a suffocating cloud damaging turns.
Snow – Reduces movement of units Suffocating Cloud – Reduces turns of units Fallout – Reduces health of units Poison – Reduces damage of units Repair – Heals/repairs units Ammunition – Addition special abilities for units.
UI
UI for the world editor have been revamped.
Some Legionaries found the world editor difficult to navigate so we added a quickplay section. You can quickly edit some variables and click generate to create a random board.
Game sets have also bee added to the UI. The first game set is chess with much more to be added soon. You will be able to create certain type of game quickly with game sets.

Introduction
The earth is under attack by an unknown terror group with frightfully advance technology. You are in control of the earth's best military group and must save the world against this unknown terror group in incredibly challenging turn-based strategy combat.
Legions
The battle against T, leader of the terror group takes place across the globe. Steal commands humanity best hope against this threat.
Control Center
Steal and team are in control of a modern military control center. They use VR technology to control several military assets across the globe.
Combat
T has many tricks up his sleeve, pitting Steal in a web of complex turn-based strategy battles. All units are equipped with unique special abilities and different weapon load-outs.
Beyond the Campaign
Majority of Legions at War's features can be found in the Multiplayer mode. The recent Chess world championship final illustrated the problem with Chess. Predictability and a 90% draw rate. The dynamic features of Legions at war give you full control over all settings like board size, moves per turn, special abilities, health, damage and turns per unit. Play chess in billions of variations or play with modern military units vs local, online or AI opponents.
A ranking and tournament system will reward the best players.

Creating the AI for legions at war isan interesting journey, as there are several ways the AI can analyse the trillions of possible layouts.
When to attack:
1. Always attack first, no threat or ranking algorithms.
2. Attack based on ranking and threat algorithms.
3. Randomly attack.
When to move:
1. Never move unto tiles that can be attacked.
2. Move with backup.
3. Randomly move.
4. Move based on threat and victory algorithms.
When to use abilities or change combat stance:
1. Based on threat and victory algorithms.

By offering the player a tweakable AI, it encourages the creation of extremely interesting and challenging layouts. The AI has been structured to allow the player to change different behavioural stats of the AI, when creating a game.
