Patch 0.6.06

Hey all!

Time for another patch to fix some of the more prominent bugs as well as some more balancing tweaks across the game. It's worth mentioning that the dungeons are now a decent amount easier since the original update launch. We've made several tweaks across enemy damage, weapon damage, boss fights, and healing items, all which make the balancing more appropriate now.

We realise there are currently some issues with the achievements, we are working on getting those all sorted for the next patch.

The next patch will be a few days to a week out, as I will be including some new features in it. Such as an updated respawn system, and potentially looking into changing the building controls to allow more freedom of movement, among other things. We are just focusing on bugs and improving the player experience right now, before we get to work on the next phase of content coming in the next couple months.

~ Julian

Patch 0.6.05

Hey everyone!

Some big and small changes in this patch. Most notably, we've removed utility boxes from the game, and instead added the functionally straight into your backpack so you can switch out weapons and armor anytime, anywhere!

Some of the small changes listed below will also make hunting deer a fair bit easier, and some of the dungeons a bit easier, especially the ones with lightning fish. We also made some changes to peaceful mode, to make it a little more... peaceful.

~ Julian

+ New additions and changes this patch:

  • Added new hover info box in the main menu that shows the exact modifiers applied when creating a peaceful mode world.

  • Olive drops from olive trees have been boosted.
  • Olive oil recipe changed to now require 3 olives.
  • Bob haircut tweaked to look less... bad.
  • Deer now get stunned for a short amount of time when hit, allowing them to be more easily hunted down.
  • Lowered lightning strike damage from 25 > 15.

  • Stopped player from being able to swap fuel and non-fuel input slots.

Patch 0.6.04

Hey everyone!

Look I know in the patch yesterday I said we wouldn't do one today.. but look we couldn't help ourselves. I've seen the feedback that the dungeons might be a bit too hard, so this is the first balancing patch to turn things down a tad, and we will see how we go.

Please keep the feedback and bug reports coming, and we will keep working to improve the experience as much as possible.

It's worth mentioning that I do read through every comment here on Steam and Discord, and wherever else I can find someone yelling stuff about Len's Island. I read through it all, good or bad. I've read through some comments that are very very kind and some absolutely shocking walls of text screaming at me (that have also been very useful to make the game better when I set aside my feelings). Please don't see this as an invite to start yelling at me haha, but I want it to be super clear that I understand, and consider everyone's opinions and ideas. Especially the passionate ones.

The whole point of why Len's Island is so special, is the fact that so many genres, and so many kinds of players can all meet in the middle and enjoy the same game. Though that recipe is not easy to make.
Some of you wish the dungeons we're even harder, some wish there were no dungeons, some are too busy fishing to care. Everyone exists inside the same game, and it's my job to find a way to make that work. So please keep all the feedback coming, so I can keep making it work :)

~ Julian

+ New additions and changes this patch:

  • Cursed Braziers now light enemies on fire within a radius, this can be a tool to make clearing areas of the cursed dungeons a little easier.
  • Lowered backpack retrieval costs to be 30 gold for both Alex and Druid NPCs.

  • Lowered Void jump bite and swipe dmg 15 > 12.
  • Lowered Void Rat attacks dmg 25 > 20.

  • Lowered Electric Void Fish lightning attack tick rate from 10/second to 6.5/second

Patch 0.6.03

Hey!

Sorry for the bumpy start with this patch everyone.

For anyone that opened the game during the few minutes the bad patch was up, this next patch will fix your save files from not showing and unlock them.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for some) if you opened the game during the 0.6.02 patch, your skill-tree will be reset when you log back in. All of your skill points will be refunded and you can spec the skill tree back up with the same skills you had. It just might have moved some of the weapons around on your hotbar, which you can access from your storage as per usual.

We have been working pretty tirelessly to patch the game and sift through feedback to make everything runs super smooth. Throughout that process a bug slipped through our fingers that caused this issue. So the next patch will likely be a few days out, once we have got some proper rest and have the time test the heck out of our fixes to make sure nothing gets through again. We are just a small handful of developers making a very big and complex game, so it can be a little tough to keep up at times like this. Thank you all for your patience and kind feedback though, we really appreciate it!

We also added some new backpack retrieval options! We heard some feedback from players feeling the difficultly of the dungeons a little too harshly. So we've now given Alex (at the 1st town) the Druid (at the 2nd town) and the Sorcerer (at the 3rd town) the ability to go collect your backpack for you, for a small fee. This can help if you're struggling during a section of the game and would rather just pay a little gold, mushrooms, or dark essence to get your backpack back.

+ New additions and changes this patch:

  • Added new backpack retrieval services to Alex and the Druid. They collect a dropped backpack in the world for a small fee.
  • Added 3 new custom map icons for mining locations.
  • Added Lightstone dust and stone drops to lightning projectile tower.
  • Made the shipwreck armor locations a little more noticeable.
  • Increased healing from mushroom stew and lowered its crafting cost.
  • Lowered falling tree damage to player.

! Bugs and issues resolved in this patch:

  • Fixed bed respawning in the caves not working and causing player to sometimes fall thru map (sorry for anyone that experienced this).
  • Fixed player being able to die during level changing.
  • Fixed visual glitches from egg sacks and other prefabs using particles that make crazy colors fill the screen.
  • Fixed one of the hunger skills not saving.
  • Fixed music not fading when changing levels.
  • Fixed save file duplication issue.
  • Fixed the backpack spawning in the air on death.
  • Fixed issues causing the Void Troll to not respawn.
  • Fixed clay vendor from 2nd town not working.
  • Added missing steak pie recipe to the pantry and other storage containers.
  • Fixed repairable bridges not properly loading after being rebuilt.
  • Fixed enemies not moving in the tomb entrance level.
  • Fixed various spelling and grammar mistakes across item names and NPC dialogues.
  • Fixed constantly respawning machine parts crate on desert island.
  • Fixed issues with cursing the tomb levels and them not resetting properly afterward.
  • Fixed blueprints not disappearing from purchased decoration items.
  • Fixed Titanium ore showing x/7 instead of x/8
  • Stopped coal form showing x/10 in storage
  • Fixed some dungeon warp alters not being enabled by their chest unlock.

Please keep the bug reports coming if you find any issues!

Len's Island - Cursed Underworld

I know we said our last big update "was the biggest update ever", but seriously, this Cursed Underworld update, is the biggest update ever.

I do highly recommend starting a new playthrough, as the entire game is just so much better from the ground up. However, your save files will still work and you won't be forced to restart. It's just a ton of fun to play over and you'll be missing out on content otherwise.

We've added dozens of massive new features and pillars of gameplay that truly expand the experience of Len's Island, as well as rebuilding and rebalancing the entire game from the ground up.

Get yourself prepared for the biggest changelog you've ever seen. I'll add some pictures in between so you don't get too bored.
~ Julian

New Features & Changes

Armor & Enchanting

  • New armor sets and outfits added to the game
  • New player window in the backpack for equipping wearables and tracking active abilities.
  • New wearable abilities for every armor and outfit piece in the game. Abilities such as reflecting damage to enemies, seeing fishing pools on your map, damage resistance, viking fury, farming bonuses, and so much more.
  • New enchanting table can be built for socketing runes into weapons and tools.
  • 11 new enchantment runes added. Enchantments such as chain lightning, ignite, lifesteal, illuminate, holographic, and so much more.
  • New armor stands added for displaying and quickly equipping armor and outfits.
  • New anvil added for upgrading your tools and weapons.

Combat & Cursed Dungeons

  • Shields reworked with new shield-bash ability that dashes you forward while knocking back and stunning enemies.
  • Torches reworked with a new ability that knocks back enemies with a small chance to catch them on fire.
  • All weapons reanimated with new attacks, much stronger and better feeling abilities, reworked timing and rebalanced from the ground up.
  • Every dungeon in Len's Island can now be "Cursed". Cursed mode is a hardcore version of the dungeon that is completely different from the base level. New enemies, new obstacles and traps, much darker and scarier, rare rewards and epic loot.
  • New cursed versions of the Void Boar and Void Troll boss fights, good luck.
  • New achievements for completing cursed bosses and defeating all cursed dungeons.
  • New detailed weapon popup UI showing specific stats and enchantments for all items in the game.

  • Several new "elite" enemies found in both normal and cursed dungeons.
  • Enemies and animals can now fully navigate into and around your buildings. Trapped animals will save and stay at their location.
  • New Lightstone torch that ignores the cursed void darkness.
  • New traps and hazards found in cursed dungeons.

Peaceful Gamemode

Yes you heard it, you can now peacefully play Len's Island if intense combat and dying isn't your thing. Don't drop your backpack on death, don't lose health from falling off of cliffs, don't lose health from hunger, and enemy eye-sight is reduced significantly so you can explore the dungeons far more easily.

Procedural Caves

The entire map of Len's Island is now mirrored in a gigantic underground cave network. You can freely build anywhere in the caves, you can use them to navigate and traverse between islands, find rare resources, complete puzzles and building challenges, and grow mushroom farms. I know this is just one little section in these notes, but this is a MASSIVE change that literally doubles the size of the world in Len's Island.

Survival & Farming

  • New stag and doe deer animals roaming all forest islands
  • New resources added: Animal hide, Tanned leather, Raw venison, Cooked venison, Venison & Mushroom Pie, Health Potion, Health Flask, and Regeneration Potions.
  • Bigger skill tree completely remade in a new window with more skills, sleek new design and lots of room for expansion in the future.
  • Starting health and backpack sizes rebalanced.
  • You now drop your entire backpack of resources when you die, except gold. Your XP and levels are not affected by dying either.
  • Trees now knock down other trees.
  • Crops now die after not watered for 5 days, dead crops can be harvested for fibers.
  • Added ability to grow mushrooms in farms within the caves.
  • All food and health item's recipes and buffs completely rebalanced.
  • New hunger and armor bars.
  • Passively heal from having a full hunger bar, lose health until minimum of 10 hp when starving.
  • Trees regrow naturally much slower, stumps can be watered to make a tree grow back the next day.
  • Changed controls for watering and gathering plants & trees to make them easier and more simple.

Improved Controls and UI

  • All resources are now drag and droppable from the inventory.
  • You can now drag any item in the game onto the ground, or onto your hotbar, or into a chest.
  • Added new double-click quick actions for all items so you can quickly move items in and out of chests, or your hotbar, or onto your armor slots.
  • Generally improved and reworked a significant amount of the UI across the game.
  • New recipes and fuels list on every machine so you always know exactly how to make any item.

Everything Else That's New

  • Bridgewater town is GONE. There are now 3 towns spread across the map, with some old crowd-favorite villagers coming back into the game.
  • NPC dialogue system overhauled and more in-depth.
  • Lots of new items to buy and sell across all of the towns.
  • New player model with new, more detailed, clothing.
  • Added back end for ability to make Steam workshop clothing in the future.
  • Lightning strikes during thunderstorms that can light stuff on fire, including you.
  • WASD and mouse control schemes merged together for ease-of-use
  • New Steam deck compatibility controls.
  • One billion bug fixes.
  • A bunch of other stuff we forget.

We have really put everything into this update. Since the moment Uncharted Waters came out, we've been working on this day in and day out. We've been sleeping at the office the past couple weeks and pulling a lot of all-nighters to get this done. So we will probably be a little burnt out over the next week. So please have some patience for when the inevitable bugs and issues arise that we will need to patch. We will be working our hardest to make sure this update stays as smooth as possible. However we do need to consider our health, so we might be a couple of days late here and there.

Thank you all so much for patiently waiting for this, it's just one, of many many more huge massive gigantic updates to come to Len's Island. If you think this is cool, just wait till the next one.
