The history behind Les 4 Alice : Lorange Journey

I made a forum post about it, but it could be interesting to be seen here, so here you go.

The game.

This game is the “ultimate edition” / remake of both “Les Quatre Alices [First Edition]” (made with RPG Maker MV) and “4 Alice : Lorange Journey [Second Edition]” (made with Twine).

Both games are delisted from Steam.

The stories.

“Four Alice” was originally the story of “Les Quatre Alices [First Edition]”.
“Lorange Journey” had been added in “4 Alice: Lorange Journey [Second Edition]”.
“Three Emilie” was a Twine DLC and the prototype story that became “Les Quatre Alices”.
Some rewriting was done for Les 4 Alice : Lorange Journey.

Regarding the localization of the characters’ names: should I keep the accents?

It hit me lately. When I localize the characters’ names, unless said character had a French origin, I always remove the accents and I anglicize the name, when possible.

For exemples: * In Red and Blue Cycles of Existance, “Saliéka” become “Salieka”.
* In Entre-Deux Cursed, “Colin Coudeau” become “Colin Seewater”.
Also, “Jesabelle” = “Jesabel” and “Virgile” = “Virgil”.
* In Les 4 Alice Lorange Journey, “Alice Lorange” stay the same, since she had a French origin.
* However, in A.L.A.N. Rift Breakers, “Aimé” kept his accent.

So, for my future stories, should I keep the accents and not anglicize any names?
I always wanted my translations to be as close as the original as possible, but I want the text to be natural and easy to read as well.
Having all French-y names might be odd for an English reader, especially if an English equivalent name is available.
Of course, if said character is French, the name won’t be changed… but how about the other names???

"Shantalia and Corali’hulu" is out!

The Sanctuary Fix

I fixed a typo with the word “sanctuary” in the French version of “Lorange Journey” story. (I forgot the “c")

Donation DLCs repurposed.

All gains before today will be given to Opération Enfant-Soleil.

Now that’s said, from today on, all gains from the Donation DLCs won’t be given to charity.
Instead, they will be used as a fund for future games’ development, like for the Steam Direct fee.
There won’t be more of these with each new game. You can see on the store page that Shantalia and Corali'hulu don’t have one.

Why the change?

The gains from those DLCs are 10% of all my revenue on Steam. I really don’t get that much money with my short stories. To give you an idea of my revenue, without saying numbers, I usually get the Steam Direct fee back after 1 month, but not always, and I don’t mean the refund when you reach a certain amount of money in sales. I mean 100 USD profits in my bank account. With that 10% in my pocket, it would be easier to pay the Steam Direct fee, and that means more Ren’py games!
