BREAKING: Libra's First Major New Translation Milestone is Complete! Moving Forward!
Greetings Vampire Princess Army!
It's Master James from MiKandi Japan with a big, juicy update about Libra of the Vampire Princess and more! So get ready to sink your teeth in, and enjoy.
Translation for Libra's Main and Mari Paths, Complete!
Maritima Malcolmia, werewolf maid extraordinaire!
Mari fans rejoice! We've finally done it! We have finished the new translation for Libra's main route and Mari's route! Both are 100% complete!
Yes, Mari got to go first because werewolf maids are the best!? We love her more than any other girl in the world!? Ouch!.. I mean universe!... I mean it's not like Mari has her canine teeth out, ready to rip through my pants and bite something off if I don't stick to this script, or anything. No, she would never do something like that! (Help, I’m scared!)
I'll be blunt FOR you, yes that took freaking forever! I don't even want to look back and count how much time has passed. So let's not. If it's any consolation, I personally put in hundreds of hours of volunteer time on this translation. Working in my free time, working on weekends. I went over every line of the script. As the project leader, I owed you at least that much. I’d say it was a form of punishment, but in all honesty I enjoyed it on many occasions… and I’m no masochist.
But I wasn't the only one who put in a volunteer effort. I'd like to thank Emiri, Hexxellor, Iarumas, and NDarkstar for all of their contributions and hard work. They really rocked it because they believed in what we were doing. Andddd maybe they had crushes on certain characters, but I can't talk about that without suffering an attack from an overly jealous werewolf. Not you, Mari! I swear! Don't bite! (It’s her! She's the attacker! For vamp's stakes help!)
Speaking of Emiri, she definitely had a big crush on Mari. So Emiri, this translation update is dedicated to you! (Did you hear that Mari? Did you? Have a treat nice doggy!)
I have to give a shout out to rock starlet Meru (@merumeruchann) too who helped with many tough lines. She came in, in the middle of what I know was a very busy time for her. Simply because she loves cute and sexy werewolves so much! (I have no idea if that's really true! Sit doggy!)
And finally I'd like to thank Tormaid (@Tormaid) who joined the effort once we realized we needed more help checking translations, taking over as the project's main translator. He rode things out until the end because he's batflip crazy about furries. You should see him at a cosplay event. Whah?! And he especially loves werewolf maids who know how to cook and clean and who have too many amazing "talents" to count. (Again, who knows! I'm just trying to keep my manhood intact here.)
Over the following months I worked side-by-side with Tormaid. We went back through almost every line of the script together, reviewing, adjusting, and editing. In the end, we've basically achieved a completely new translation. And guess what. I can say whole-heartedly, it's turned out great! It's more accurate. There's no more confusing lines or situations. If you're confused now, it's because you weren’t paying attention! Stop looking at those “assets” and read it again, doggonit! *^O^* The jokes, the character’s personalities, the relationship dynamics. They all really shine now. I'm proud of what our team accomplished. And I hope you will be too!
We love you Mari!!!! (Bwaouch! She bit me anyway! WTH?!)
So that brings us to this next point in our adventure. Where do we go from here? Well there's some good news and some bad news. The good news, is we plan to keep working on new translates for Libra’s other paths. And Tormaid is on board to help make that happen! The bad news is, I’m worried about how much money we’ll have to pay him so that he can keep up a decent pace ><. Currently we’re paying him through the money we raise on Patreon, but we’ll release the last Libra Battle Card soon (#20). After that, I fear we'll see a drop off on our Patreon support.
Speaking of Libra cards, check out the latest ones. Hot off the press!
LotVP Battle Card 17 "(Useless?!) Ephemera"
LotVP Battle Card 18 "Spanking Spurt!"
Moving Forward: The Patch Plan?
So here's our current plan: When the game gets updated, we'll run a big campaign to promote Mari's new path. And we'll discount all the Libra goods we still have in stock at our official shop. Then hopefully that raises enough money to finish the other paths (Calen, Lycoris, Aoi).
In the coming days, we'll send the translation over to XERO. They'll need to make their schedule and build the patch. Then we'll need to test play it. If any of you want to volunteer for testing that, let us know. Once all of that is complete, we'll be able to finally set a release date. The hardest part is done but we still have many things to do before the patch will be available to the public. We'll keep you posted on the schedule. In the meantime, we'll start moving forward to translate the remaining paths and we'll just move at the speed we can go based on how much time we have and how much money is in our pockets.
And while the entire game has not been translated, I do feel now that at this point we’ve made enough progress to move forward on Kickstarting something new. (If you didn’t notice, we haven’t Kickstarted anything that was truly our own project since Libra, but we have been helping other creators with their projects.)
Which brings me to "Crowns"...
"Crowns": OUR Next Game on Kickstarter?
For a while now we’ve been developing a Battle Card / Visual Novel hybrid code-named “Crowns”. Here's some of the things we've accomplished:
Created three worlds and the legend surrounding current events.
Outlined a visual-novel story on paper and created 4 great main characters as well as several secondary characters.
Completed visual designs for 2 of those 4 characters (human and fairy). A third (wolf) is drawn, but not colored.
Partially defined game mechanics. Pretty intense stuff!
Drawn an early prototype card battle field.
Designed our cards and created card art for two characters. Very hot stuff!
Decided on the game’s official title and started logo creation.
Continued to refine our game design doc, a pitch deck, and white paper for investors.
We've made quite a bit of progress! But now we’ve hit a rough patch. I'd like to explain the current situation and get your feedback.
So far everything that we've developed for Crowns has been funded by our sister company MiKandi. We had a really big investor who had strongly committed to the project, but they ended up pulling out for unrelated reasons. Now we're kind of stuck because the game we've been planning required the huge budget they had on the table and now we don't know how long it will take MiKandi to find new investors.
Looking over our assets, I think for a modest budget we could build a 5+ hour "visual novel only" game without too much difficulty. Should we raise the money for that on Kickstarter? I'm thinking that would be a good way to keep the project moving forward. I know when we first announced Crowns as being a Battle Card, VN hybrid, some of you said you would rather have a "visual novel only" game anyway, but what do the rest of you think?
If we went this route though, I think we should keep the budget really small and tight and not go crazy on rewards. We'd keep our time focused on getting the game finished, and keep our risks low. So what do you think?
What would the must-have rewards be?
What would the deal breakers be?
Would you be okay if all of the rewards were digital only? If not, which ones HAVE to be physical?
If you have an idea, please chime in. That'll really help us move forward in the best direction.
And if you want to read more about "Crowns" and see some of the artwork, check out the Crowns game posts under the Featured Tags on our Patreon page.
Thanks for reading and thank you for your enduring support. Onward march everyone!
