"Lichtspeer is the stupidest bloody game I’ve played in a long time, and I mean that as a compliment. It’s the classic tale of ancient Germanic future, where the gods get bored and give a random warrior a spear made out of Licht so that they can fight off hordes of hipster ice giants and penguins and zombies. You know, just like you learned in school in your ancient future class.
It’s deceptively simple. Barring some special abilities, your entire job is to hold down the left mouse button to charge up a spear (er, Lichtspeer) throw, aim its trajectory with the mouse, and release to hurl. If an enemy reaches you, you’re dead. If you succeed in doing this through five separate screens on the level, you get to go to the next level. That’s… that’s basically the entire game."

"Lichtspeer is an "action arcade lightspear-throwing simulator." However, reducing the game to its rather simple mechanics doesn't quite do it justice. You are stationary while all kinds of enemies rush towards you. You aim your spear, throw, and hopefully catch them right in the face before they get to you. If they do, you have to try again from the beginning of the stage. The game tries to shake up the formula now and again - with enemies that shoot back, devastating attacks that have to be stopped before they can be executed, and the occasional boss fight - but at the end of the day it is a rather simplistic affair.
However, this doesn't mean that it's boring - far from it, actually. For one thing, the difficulty feels just right. Yes, you will die repeatedly, and you'll probably hurl the occasional insult towards the screen, but that's what kept me highly motivated to play on. I can only imagine the amount of punishment that the other, unlockable difficulties dish out. Perish the thought!"
"At first Lichtspeer looks like a game that is too simple to keep players engaged for very long, but it is easy to pick up and play yet fiercely addictive. Just completing the regular difficulty is quite a feat and then there is still a New Game + mode as well as the appropriately titled “Rage Quit” mode. Don’t let the simple visuals and wacky story fool you, Lichtspeer is one of those games that will have you hooked after your first try and leave you hurling spears (and abuse) at foes long into the night."
