Liftoff Lantern fest!

Lanterns rise, lanterns glow,
Drifting gently in the evening’s flow.

Around the world, lantern festivals light up the night for many reasons, to celebrate, to remember, to hope. Some lanterns soar, others float, and in true Liftoff style… ours do both! For a limited time, take to the skies and experience this radiant in-game spectacle during our 2-week seasonal celebration.

There are no objectives here. No badges, no boosts, no XP. Just a stunning, immersive world to drift through at your own pace. Sometimes, beauty is the only reward you need. Enjoy!

Update 1.6.12

It’s great to see how much enthusiasm our last update sparked, especially among those chasing leaderboard times and thriving on the rush of online races. We truly appreciate all the energy and feedback you've shared. Update 1.6.12 builds on that momentum, refining and enhancing the features we introduced recently.

Changelist

  • Updated watching a leaderboard replay, returning to the leaderboards menu will now re-apply the selected filters to show the same leaderboard again.
  • Updated personal best times chat messages to now be color-coded to the player's LED color.
  • Updated personal best times to now always favor the all-time leaderboards instead of the monthly leaderboards.
  • Updated personal best times to immediately show if a better time has been set than on the leaderboard. An '*' is now displayed before your time until the score has been posted and verified on the leaderboard.
  • Updated the amount of personal best chat messages being shown in multiplayer classic race to no longer include lap time improvements.
  • Updated and improved the chat visibility behaviour. The chat will now hide itself when flying, if the chat is preferred to be hidden. The chat will now automatically show itself while spectating, or when the finish is shown in classic race and dropout race.
  • Updated copying drones from other players in the multiplayer game lobby. A drone no longer needs to be shared on the Steam Workshop for a player to copy the drone setup.
  • Updated the game lingo to remove the term 'waiting room' and replace it with 'game lobby'.
  • Fixed single player personal best times or scores not showing correctly after putting a new personal best score.
  • Fixed drone skins being included in the recording when flying with a drone with which you haven't had them unlocked yet.
  • Fixed leaderboard time not uploading when leaving a game before a drone reset was triggered, or the finish screen was shown.
  • Fixed an excessive amount of leaderboard fetching being done in the background for the personal best.

Heads Up, Pilots: Leaderboard Reset Happens Next Week!

The next Liftoff update will bring a major improvements to the race and laptime multiplayer leaderboards.

Last chance to contribute to the legacy leaderboards

If you want to immortalize your spot in the legancy Liftoff leaderboard archives, now’s your chance. With the next update, multiplayer leaderboards will reset for a fresh start with a new, improved, and more transparent system. We're excited!

What's next?

Since 2018, pilots have posted close to 1.5 million high scores across monthly leaderboards for official tracks and all-time leaderboards for community tracks. Over time, a group of elite pilots emerged, constantly challenging each other and grinding tracks to shave off milliseconds for the top spot, sometimes where even a single frame-per-second in system performance made the difference.

To bring an exciting fresh start to the Liftoff online rankings, we're announcing a soft reset of the multiplayer leaderboards. This means we'll archive all scores that have been made up until the point of the release of this update. You'll still be able to check out your previous achievements in the multiplayer leaderboards menu, accessible from the main menu. Apart from providing a fresh start, the leaderboards will also receive a great overhaul. Note: only multiplayer leaderboards will be archived, Liftoff Pro League leaderboards will remain unchanged.

Along with a fresh start, the leaderboards are getting a major overhaul:

  • Simplified menu controls for easier navigation.
  • View the drone setup used for the record
  • See the date when the record was set.
  • Copy the drone setup to your own fleet and try it yourself.
  • Watch a replay of the record-setting run directly.
  • New rule: Proof is required, no new high scores will be accepted without a replay.
  • All leaderboards before the update will be archived and will remain accessible in-game.

To better showcase your achievements, your personal best will now appear below your name in multiplayer real-time rankings. When you set a new record, a game-wide message will broadcast your achievement to everyone, making it clear who they’re up against.

Update 1.6.9 released

Our Discord community helped identify some quirks with a few of the recently added propellers that allowed for ultra-fast performance. Thanks to their feedback, this update brings everything back in balance for an even better flying experience.

Changelist

  • Fixed an issue where some propellers didn't get properly included in the drag baking process, resulting in faster than expected drone setups. Affected propellers are: DJI FPV Propellers, Gemfan Hurricane 51466-3 MCK V2, Gemfan Freestyle 4S and Gemfan Vannystyle 5136-3

Leaderboard soft-reset in the next update. Let us know what you think!

In that same Discord server, we recently asked the community how they’d feel about a potential reset of the in-game multiplayer leaderboards. Based on those conversations and early poll results, the general consensus is clear: most are in favor. A reset promises a fresh competitive wave, giving today’s top pilots a chance to shine and offering everyone a clean slate to climb.

With nearly a decade of racing behind us, it feels like the right moment to spotlight the current generation of players. To support this new chapter, an upcoming update for Liftoff FPV will introduce a soft reset of the multiplayer leaderboards. From that point on, visible rankings in multiplayer lobbies will reflect newly earned records only. Even more exciting: each leaderboard entry will now include a flight recording, allowing players to view, analyze, and learn from each top run, including the setup used to achieve it.

To honor the past, all legacy leaderboard data will remain available in a dedicated section of the leaderboard menu. And rest assured, this reset will not affect personal bests in offline single-player modes, nor will it impact the Liftoff Pro League rankings.

Because this soft reset will impact all active players, we’d love to hear from the Steam community before moving forward. Your input truly matters.

Introducing "Improved Walk Mode"!

After years of requests, we’re finally doing it, introducing "Improved Walk Mode"! 👣

That’s right! Experience the thrill of true-to-life pilot movement as you slowly walk to the perfect liftoff spot! Navigate complex environments, hunt down your crashed drone (replacing the reset function), and swap out LiPos by hand, just like in real life. You wanted realism? We’re taking it to the next level.

Features include:
✅ Full-body motion capture (via your webcam… kind of)
✅ New ‘Trip and Fall’ physics for ultimate realism
✅ Battery Carry Challenge – how many can you hold at once?
✅ More tall grass in levels, making your crashed drone nearly impossible to find—just like real life!

Say goodbye to flying-only, Liftoff is all about taking FPV back to its roots: the ground.

Beta test now!

Our Walk Mode is currently in beta testing and can be unlocked in two ways:

💰 Hit the donate button in-game to access it instantly.
🪙 Or, for the budget-conscious pilots, collect 100 in-game crypto coins hidden throughout the levels.

Your choice, support innovation or embrace the grind!
