How Lil Gator came to life
Hey, gator gang!
Welcome to the first behind-the-screens look at how Lil Gator Game was created! The inspiration, childhood antics and what makes Lil Gator unique.
But first, let's introduce ourselves: Scott started the ball rolling on this project and is the code, technical art and SFX genius. We are constantly in awe of his talents! Robin is the game's maestro, but that's not all! He also has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to architectural modeling. He played a huge part in designing the game's man-made landmarks. Connor is an incredible artist who also does character modeling, animation and writes the stories that give your favorite characters their unique voices.
From idea to creation
Scott always wanted Lil Gator Game to be a Zelda allegory through and through. Link is green, Gator is green. It's as simple as that! Like many players who enjoyed The Legend of Zelda adventures as a kid (and as an adult), we loved how coziness and adventure went hand in hand. Plenty of other indie titles have captured that magic as well, so why not give it a try ourselves? A Short Hike was a great example of this, inspiring us from both a technical and aesthetic standpoint (we all highly recommend it).
Before they got replaced by metal and plastic, we all played at old big wooden parks, having adventures with our childhood friends. That feeling of crawling around, finding all the nooks and toys within a towering structure that felt a thousand years old, is at the core of Lil Gator Game. Go on, have an adventure! Get a little lost, climb a little too high, fall and scrape your knee. Someone is waiting for you over on the park bench with a hug and a packed lunch. Everything is gonna be okay.
With an abundance of characters taking part in Lil Gator's game and a few you've already had the pleasure of meeting in multiple trailers, such as Jill, Martin, Avery, and Big Sis, let's get to know Lil Gator a little more.
Meeting Lil Gator
Lil Gator is on a mission to craft an adventure so awesome that their Big Sis will want to put down her school work and come and play as they did before. Their boundless energy is infectious and manages to band their friends together to help out. Although lil gator isn’t always the most sure of themself, everything just seems to work out when they charge forward with reckless abandon and speak whatever is on their mind! Maybe it's that twinkle in their eye…
Expect another developer diary soon with some character profiles and even a mini tour around the island. In the meantime, don't forget to wishlist Lil Gator Game and tell your friends :)
