Small Update 5

Hey everyone,

We're almost done with the roadmap for the 1.1 update, and it's exciting to see things coming together. At the same time, there are still bugs and issues in the game that need to be addressed. It's important that we plan ahead, as updates take time, and we need to ensure that the 3D modelers can get started as early as possible to stay on schedule.

Fixed within this update:

  • Fixed 2 server crashes that caused most of the issues
  • Fixed homes placed on water platforms sometimes having the smaller home area
  • Fixed mining rigs sometimes having wrong materials
  • Fixed rare weapon chest and special weapon chest loot tables
  • Fixed explosives not dealing damage to containers
  • Fixed electricity placeables not dropping to ground if player vendor was removed from under them
  • Aggressive animals no longer attack players in safe zones
  • Aggressive animals can now attack different species
  • Hunting collars can now be traded for goat mounts at the hunting vendor
  • Moved underground arena entrance slightly to prevent people form entering from the bottom of the cliff
  • Applied a fix for server not showing in server browser while being playable
  • Fixed tick rate sometimes being 0 in server status page
  • Sawed off shotgun muzzle flash now shows correctly
  • Lucky looter buff now only works on world loot chests
  • Adjusted wall collisions in bunkers so that players can no longer climb over them
  • Fixed combat buff not being applied in bunkers/mines when shooting
  • Island Conqueror achievement can no longer be achieved by killing a heli crash npc
  • Fixed underground arena chest respawn timer not working

Performance fixes & Community highlight

Hey,

We noticed some of the translations were poorly done and they break the UI in some of the vendors. We are working to fix these issues ASAP. We are also still working on the server performance and opening new servers as there is a demand. 2 more US servers coming today!

We also wanted to mention that there is a community created website of the game Vinternote. The website offers a great map of the game which can help new players out completing their compendiums.

We pushed a small update today:

  • Fixed fuel duplication bug when adding fuel to generators or home
  • Fixed home electricity showing wrong values when adding fuel
  • Fixed portable generators not changing total home electricity on clients
  • Fixed chests and vendors getting stuck saying that they are in use
  • Improved server performance by 15% πŸ₯³

Common issues:

  • Game doesn't start (nothing appears on screen when clicking Play) - Restart Steam to fix it.
  • Vintercoins not appearing after purchase - The game sometimes doesn't show the coins right away, you can still find them in your Steam Inventory, Restarting the game usually fixes the issue.

We had a small issue with the update, we applied a fix shortly after. Instead of 100 player capacity we accidently set maximum player capacity to 1000. ːsteamhappyː

Hey all

First of all what a weekend, we hit our new all time player peak, almost 3x the old record. Over 3k players! Welcome everyone!

Reading the reviews and your feedback on discord, we noticed most of the negative reviews coming from dedicated servers not saving properly and performance issues on official servers:

To discuss more about the game please join our discord, there has been quite lots of traffic and discussion during the weekend.

Longvinter 1.0 Is Out Now!

After 3 years of game development, growing as company, bug fixes and community suggestions and engagement, Longvinter has now been released with the 1.0 Update. I am personally out of words to describe how great it feels to have finished the game of this scale and even though it is still rough around the edges, it's definitely ready and feature complete. Now let's go over what has changed and what will be next for Longvinter!

What's Happening Next?

As this episode of Longvinter's phase comes to an end, naturally a new one begins, and I know you will have quite a lot of new content to dig through this time. We will be focusing on making the game work great on Steam Deck with refined controller support on all the menus and also fixing bugs that come up with the new update. We also want to keep the performance at its best from here on out.

For our next big feature update, we already teased this but it is now confirmed that we will have Longvinter Farming coming as "1.1" version of the game. We have also planned a big overhaul to new player experience and introducing renting apartments and shared communities. More info on these coming later so as always stay tuned for more!

PlayStation Release Coming in 2026

I am also excited to announce that the game will be releasing on PlayStation next year! The game will provide cross-play options so we don't have two separate player bases limiting player numbers.

New Tackle Catalog: Long Winter

Naturally when we didn't include any new catalog and tackle box last Christmas, it's now time to introduce a new set of winter clothing in style of the game's name. This is our biggest one yet, and we have some unique features like changing ski colors on backpacks and unique decals on mouth pieces. While this time there are no new effects, these items can drop with all of your favorite effects from the past!

1.0 Update Main Features

We wanted the 1.0 update to change something major in the game to really make it feel different for those who have played during Early Access. For that, we implemented new Points of Interest - Oil Rigs, which are large structures with significant verticality, quite challenging to design with our top-down game approach. Since this is our 1.0 update, we wanted to improve every aspect of the game, and we're really happy with how this update turned out. We have almost 100 new items with various mechanics. Let's start with the biggest change - the Oil Reworks.

Oil Rigs

If you visit Sgt. Lake now, you may notice that fuel prices have increased quite significantly since your last visit. That's because the LRI have set up oil rigs around the Longvinter archipelago and are now controlling prices everywhere. You must take destiny into your own hands and process and steal your own fuel while under attack from LRI mercenaries. These new locations are super fun for both PVP and PVE players, and we're excited to see what you like most about them! With the addition of fuel refining, we've added Crude Oil as a new item that needs to be refined before turning into fuel. We've also added a new upgrade tree to the mining rig building - instead of crushing rocks, you can now pump oil yourself and use refineries to bring your own product to the economy.

Heli Crash and Underground Arena

Keeping in style of adding new interesting events, we have now added a heli crash to the map that lets you access new tactical gear that LRI use to try and hunt you down. We also have a new arena that invites all players every hour to fight to the last man in order to access the best loot right below Sgt. Lake base camp.

New Animals and Mounts

Our map now has much greater variety in animals with the introduction of Lynx, Wolf, Wolverine, Fox, Moose and Goats now wandering in Longvinter Island. All of the new animals are also obtainable as mounts, and we have made the saddles unequippable so you can style your mounts as you like it best.

Wildlife Improvements and Map Additions

New small birds have now been included in all parts of the map that bring the island alive with their amusing looks and ability to always escape you no matter how hard you try to catch them. With this amazing new atmospheric addition, we have also added new roads to help starting players travel around first outposts more easily. Vendor catalogs have been upgraded with many new items, and we've improved many other things visually and brought more animations to everything to make the world feel more alive and immersive.

New Equipment & Items

We've added several new equipment options to enhance your gameplay:

  • 4 new buff hats:

    • Permanent movement speed
    • Better item prices
    • Cheaper travel costs
    • Chance for double loot

  • Combat vests with special abilities:

    • Hotkey eating from inventory
    • Quick reload
    • Weapon switching without inventory

  • Heavy sniper rifle (20 base damage)
  • Hunters Amulet
  • New explosives (C-4, Dynamite)
  • Craftable sulfur and gunpowder
  • New meals for cooking compendium

New Placeable Health System

We wanted to give placeable health more thought since it was previously a bit of an afterthought. Now we're really happy with new mechanics we have in place. You can see every placeable's health when hovering over them in inventory and while they're placed down. When you first place an item on the ground, they initially start with 31 HP and start gaining their health slowly. If a placeable takes damage, it will stop regenerating HP. If the placeable is damaged recently, it cannot be picked up, and if destroyed by shooting while not at full health, it will not drop an item. These changes will make using normal fences in combat less practical and encourage usage of sandbags that are catered for combat situations.

New Placeable Items

  • 10 New Paintings to level up your house decorations
  • Boat house to store your boats on water bases
  • New Marksman Defender turret with longer range and damage
  • New Machine Gun Defender that you can control for devastating fire power
  • Electricity Pole to distribute electricity between your neighborhood easily
  • New Firework with smiley face
  • Oil refinery to turn crude oil into fuel
  • Refrigerator and microwave to decorate your home with functional items
  • New Metallic box building blocks
  • New Rugs to decorate your home
  • Home Harmony placeable set with lamps, plants, tables and cabinets
  • New ramp to easily access water bases if you fall off your boat

  • Cabin roofs can now be painted
  • Added option to disable pickup notifications
  • Added UI indicator for house area locations to help players navigate between houses and avoid turret fire

Devlog #52

Final Early Access Devlog

We're approaching a significant milestone as this will be our last devlog while the game is in Early Access. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our players who have helped shape Longvinter into what it has become.

1.0 Wipe and Update Schedule

We're excited to announce that 1.0 will be releasing next Friday, February 21st, at 9AM UTC. All official servers will undergo a wipe immediately after the update goes live. We recommend unofficial servers to also perform a wipe if they experience any issues post-update.

We've finalized our wipe policy for official servers, implementing a 6-month wipe cycle (excluding monthly wipe servers). We believe this strikes the best balance between players who enjoy fresh starts and those who prefer persistent gameplay. To improve transparency, we've added a next wipe date display in the main menu while playing. This feature aims to prevent any unexpected surprises and keep our players informed about upcoming wipes. We want to remind everyone that hosting your own server allows you to maintain control over your saves and wipe schedule.

1.0 Experimental Recap

The new update has been thoroughly tested in our experimental branch, where our community has been instrumental in reporting issues. We've already addressed over 100 reported problems and are working to resolve all remaining issues before next Friday's release. From experience, we understand that some bugs may slip through to the stable version despite extensive testing, but we'll be working throughout the launch weekend to ensure the smoothest experience possible.

Steam Deck Compatibility

We're pleased to announce that with the 1.0 update, Longvinter will be fully playable on Steam Deck running the latest software version, with no workarounds required. We've verified this functionality on our own Steam Deck.

Prestige After Launch

We've received numerous inquiries about prestige retention after the 1.0 update. While we're aware that some players have achieved prestige levels through exploits, we've decided to preserve all prestige progress out of respect for those who earned it legitimately. We believe prestige represents a significant achievement for honest players, and we don't want to diminish their accomplishments. However, we want to remind everyone that the upcoming wipe will clear all Mk currency, so if you're planning to purchase prestige, we recommend doing so before next week's update.

Server Population Cap

After pushing our server capabilities to their limits, we've determined that a 100-player cap provides the optimal balance between performance and gameplay experience. This decision allows us to maintain server stability while still delivering an engaging multiplayer environment.

Looking Forward

We want to assure our community that reaching 1.0 is not the end of Longvinter's journey. Our development will continue, and we're excited to announce our future plans soon!

Devlog #51

Happy New Year and welcome to this year's first devlog!

We're more excited than ever as the experimental version of the 1.0 update is nearly ready for public testing, and we can't wait to share what we've been developing over the past 6 months. Experimental patch notes and discussions will take place in our Discord server, so be sure to join and get yourself an "experimental-tester" role to be notified when the update is ready for testing. While experimental patch notes will be shared in Discord, the final notes will be available here when the game launches with wipe and the update goes live on all servers on February 21, 2025.

Click Channels & Roles to select your roles

We've moved the release date three days earlier to Friday (instead of Monday) to give everyone time to play during the weekend. The 1.0 update will remain in an experimental state for almost a month, giving us enough time to polish it into what we're proud to call a fully released game.

Let's go over some of the changes we've been working on:

Placeable Health Changes

We wanted to make raiding during active gameplay a more viable option. Since placeable health has been somewhat of an afterthought, we've now given it the polish required to enable fun raiding gameplay. Changes primarily affect building under fire - in 1.0, placed items will start with only 30 HP and slowly regenerate to full health after placement. Additionally, recently damaged items cannot be picked up and replaced, and items that haven't fully regenerated their health won't drop as bags when destroyed, preventing players from repeatedly using the same items as cover.

Bullet Sync Issues

We've addressed an ongoing issue where bullets visible on your screen weren't hitting their displayed locations. This "lag" occurred because bullets began their journey before reaching the server, which was intended to provide instant feedback. Without delving too deeply into technical details, we've implemented server-side lag compensation, resulting in much more responsive shooting mechanics. We've recorded comparison videos showing this issue in the current beta 1.14 build versus the new lag-compensated bullets in the 1.0 build. While other players' bullets may occasionally appear to spawn slightly after their gun barrel, we believe this trade-off is worthwhile for improved accuracy when leading shots.

New Dances Coming in Tackle Box

On a lighter note, we're excited to showcase a new dance animation that will be available in the release tackle box!
