Lootbox RPG

v2.0 - the slightly different kind of Early Access

We are about to release version 2.0. It will take a few months until all the content is complete, but I still have the capacity to integrate your ideas and wishes into the game.
What do you like so far, what don't you like so much, what would you like to change and what would you like to see integrated into the game? Give me your feedback - just click on the speech bubble below this message and you can join the discussion.
Version 2.0 will unlock the second chapter for Lootbox RPG. Now that your ma is back home, the question is whether Pa has gone a little overboard with his call to arms! Can you smooth things over and help his magnificent unholiness back on the right path?

Many new cards, many new items, new spells, new game mechanics and new Minions await you!

Best regards
Mario

v1.97 is here!

Here is 1.97 - with some exciting changes.

  • the ring slot was replaced by 4 "Misc" slots
  • about 20 new items were added (will be updated in the Wiki soon)
  • added loot to hardmode enemies
  • added rotten armor set
  • added war armor set
  • improved zombie mode
  • introduced damage types
  • added fireplaces to the Tunnels
  • added fishing
  • added crafting stations
  • enemies will now take damage when standing on a trap
  • several bugfixes
  • the update SHOULD keep your saves intact, but I can't promise!

Hope you enjoy it!
Kind regards

Lootbox Toolbox

Ever wondered how the content is created for a game - at least for my game?
Internally I am using a SQLITE Database, which can easily be modified by a tool like "DB Browser for SQLite". But it cannot easily show the relations between items, enemies and scripts.

WARNING! HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD!

The following screenshots will show you not only my content tool, but of course content. That means you will see enemies, items, spells and other things that you probably haven't discovered yet in the game! If you don't want to be spoiled, stop reading.

So... what is part of my everyday work when being busy with Lootbox?

For example, I need to check if an item is on any loot table, e.g. can actually be found in the game:

And on the other hand, I need to check what items a creature can drop - important for balancing out everything:

Keeping track of game variables is also important - when is a script fired and how can I tell what an NPC has to say?

Putting it all together in a level overview: what loot can be found in a given dungeon level and what creatures will spawn there?

What spells can the player cast? What runes are needed?

Which enemies exist and do they have special abilities?

Where do I use what script?

Do I have a typo in my script commands or is everything correct?

And last but not least, what Items do I have and are they on any loot table in normal or in hard mode?
If the player can not find it in a chest, loot it from an enemy or craft it - it's probably useless ;-)

I hope you find this interesting
Kind regards
Mario

Update on experimental branch for MacOS Users

If you want to try out the latest build of the game and you use MacOS for gaming, you can now do so by switching to the experimental branch.
A ton of changes awaits. This is in preparation of chapter two, which will come with one of the next updates. In addition, Steam players will now get 10 hotslots (mobile users get 6).

Spring Sale! 85% OFF!

Lootbox RPG takes part in the Steam spring sale. A big 85% OFF! A good reason to descend into the depths of the dungeons and grind for some treasure chests...

Lootbox now has an official Wiki!

By popular demand, I have written a script that transfers all known spells, items and creatures to a wiki.
You will find all items with their most important stats, all spells with their runes and all creatures with their combat stats as well as their loot tables. And yes - the loot chance is included.

Enjoy! And feel free to discuss the wiki. Of course you can register for free and help improving it further.

Here it is: https://wiki.lootbox-rpg.com

Patch Notes for 2023-10-19

- the evil advisor no longer resets the main quest
- fix for inventory overflowing when crafting too much
- fireball now ends your turn

Bestiary, Loot and UI changes incoming!

Here we go:

- added some more informational texts for new players that will help learn the game (e.g. "use the torch in your first hotslot to make light").
- Buff Info now has an "OK" button so that you won't cancel it by accident.
- Added day and night cycle to the overworld.
- Added Defense Potion.
- Adjusted the Grimoire: you will now learn the spell even if you can't cast it yet.
- New: The bestiary keeps track of your kills. Access it from your character screen, Icon in the upper right. Bonus: the more creatures of a certain type you kill, the better your chance of landing a critical hit in the future.
- Changed the loot mechanism. You can now buy silver keys. Silver chests may contain a gold key (also dropped by creatures). On every 5 levels of a dungeon there is a golden chest which requires a gold key. Gold chest loot is better than silver chest loot. You may find a platinum key in a gold chest. Platinum keys open Platinum Chests that can be found on every 5 levels of a HARD MODE dungeon. Platinum Chests contain unique magic items.
- Combining items now takes time.
- Added Elite enemies (to HARD MODE dungeons).
- Added background pictures to the level loading screen.
- Changed the UI (colors and fonts) so that it won't hurt your eyes any longer ;-)
- Added AE damage to "Shatter".
- A Scythe is now required to summon a reaper pet.
- You can now load/save during Work (Mining).
- New Mining progression screen.
- Saving is now enabled in the royal mines.
- Saving is now disabled in hard mode dungeons.
- You can now cast spells from out of your character screen.
- Skill reset now costs gold.
- Many other fixes to known errors.

Hotfix 1.96.4x

- If you own a warmail, the Steam Achievement PLATE should now fire.
- Other small fixes and changes.
