Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 - Dev Diary: The concept of Sanity. What is it for?
“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.”
H.P. Lovecraft
Greetings everyone,
Carlos here, CEO at Blini Games! Recently we've completed our first round of hands-on among a selected group of players. They had access to our current version, which is very close to the final one in terms of content, so we could get first feedback about Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2.
One of the most frequent questions that we have received is: What is the Sanity? And we thought that this is an interesting topic.
Sanity is a term deeply related to the world of the Cthulhu Mythos, whether we are talking about books, games, tabletop RPGs, etc.
Humankind faces great cosmic horrors that defy all logic and the reaction of disbelief, acceptance, and fear, translates into sanity loss.
In RPG games, as the characters acquire deeper knowledge of the Mythos, and understand that there is much more out there than what they thought, their minds get a bit further from actual reality.
How do we translate this into the numbers in our game?
Sanity is another parameter of our characters, as is speed, damage, resistance, etc.
Each character starts the game with 100% of sanity, but the amount is different for each of them, depending on how well the character relates to the Mythos. For example, the Professor is a very pragmatic individual who only believes in Science, while the Witch is more familiar with the supernatural aspects of the Universe. So the Professor’s basic Sanity is much lower than the Witch's one.
There are dozens of very powerful otherworldly artifacts and amulets in the game, which provide you with a lot of advantages, but the Gods don´t grant anything without a cost, and that comes represented with the Sanity.
We don't want our game to be based on hoarding the best objects to become immortal. There are no actual best objects. Amulets will be a decisive element if the player wants to get far in our game, but mixing them is the tricky part.
HOW CAN I LOSE SANITY?
Well, apart from using powerful Mythos amulets, there are other things that can make you lose sanity:
Facing really powerful enemies.
Activating altars of the deities. (From which you can also get very good advantages)
Reading disturbing documents
Taking the wrong decisions in the dozens of mini-events that we have included in the game.
HOW CAN I RECOVER SANITY? There are many ways to recover Sanity:
By reading documents that will give you a little hope
By reading a newspaper daily
By taking the right decisions in the mini-events
With the use of certain amulets
Eating chocolate!!!
We really hope that this throws some light to one of the most important aspects, yet hidden aspects, of our game. If you have any questions about this, don't hesitate to write a comment.
Until next time!

Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 - Dev Diary: Final Graphics Reveal
Greetings everyone, Carlos here, CEO at Blini Games! As we get closer and closer to the end of the development of Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2, we start to see materials in final quality.
We have to admit that the decision to change the graphic style from pixel art to 2D vector has been, to say the least, challenging, at some points frustrating, but nevertheless rewarding - especially when seeing the final results.
In this blog post, we want to show you two versions of the same location from the game: “The streets of Arkham”. One from exactly a year ago, and the other one, as it currently looks, and how you will see it when you finally get to play the game!
We really hope you like the look & feel of the new visuals. We definitely welcome any feedback and critique - feel free to post any comments here, in the Steam discussions or come to our discord,
Until next time, and in case you haven't done so already, please don't forget to add the game to your Steam wishlist to stay up to date on all the upcoming news. We'll be seeing you soon with more exciting updates about our game.

Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 - Dev Diary: The Professor
Greetings everyone, Carlos here, CEO at Blini Games! As you already know, in Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 we are introducing 6 playable characters, some of them you've met in the previous game, while others are brand new. Each of them will have unique abilities, exclusive items, and their own gameplay style totally different from the rest.
Today, we introduce another one of the main characters of Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2, with a bit of his history, and some details about their abilities.
I’VE SEEN THINGS YOU PEOPLE WOULDN´T BELIEVE
The Professor is the second classic characters that we have “rescued” from the first part, to continue his fight against the Great Old Ones.
The meta-scientist Dr. Clawston is a powerfully built, ruthless genius, whose lust for knowledge has not been cowed by the horrors he’s discovered. He carries a portable ‘Resonator’ device which disrupts its targets by affecting the dimensions of reality itself!
Dr. Clawstone once led the project ‘Tillinghast’, before a series of ‘accidents’ led to the destruction of his laboratory. Clawstone immediately realized the walls between dimensions had been weakened and embarked on a field trip to stabilize them.
This culminated in Clawstone using the bio-technology of an ancient alien race to re-capture a pan-dimensional apex predator before it escaped into our reality.
It’s possible it was the proximity to the Resonator which caused Clawstone’s memory to erode inexorably, until all he could recall was... the piping of flutes...
SKILLS AND GAMEPLAY DETAILS
The Professor is a very interesting ranged class. Perhaps not as mobile and fast as the Detective, but he comes with skills that make him more resilient to damage, and also, we have changed some of his original skills to improve his survivability.
For starters, his basic weapon is one of the strongest. Not only does it have higher potential DPS than the detective's, it can also shoot 20 rounds before having to reload.
The Professor can use an energy shield at the cost of energy, which will negate incoming damage. This shield can be improved with the use of items that you can craft or find, which will increase the amount of damage negated, thus becoming a potential ranged tank later in the game. Careful though, when the energy runs out, the shield will deactivate, and you will have to wait some time to recover it back.
His weapon has a secondary explosive shot that consumes energy and takes a second to shoot, in which time, the professor won´t be able to move. But the AOE damage makes it perfect against clusters of enemies packed closely together.
We have added a new skill to the Professor to show how he has improved his control over the energies of the other dimension. Now he can summon a pet-worm which will attack the enemies on screen. Summoning the pet takes a lot of energy, and it can be killed. It will also die after a period of time. It will be possible to increase the DPS of the pet, its duration and HP through the use of items, crafted or found.
The Professor can also operate complex machinery and solve certain puzzles and mini-events based on science that other characters won´t be able to understand.
Till next time, in case you haven't done so already, please don't forget to add the game to your Steam wishlist and stay up to date on all the upcoming news. We'll be seeing you soon with more exciting updates about our game.
