Ludoria: Dev Log 1

Hey guys,

Since a lot happened during the past weeks, we want to keep you in the loop about the development progress and what changes we made so far.

User Interface:

Not the greatest by any means, however we took the time to read your feedback from our gameplay video we posted about a month ago, and implemented the following changes:

  • Quick Access menu Improved Icons and color scheme:
    Before:

    After:

  • Loading bar when placing/removing objects has a better visibility now.
    Before:

    After:

  • Menu improvements:
    Before:

    After:

  • Added Male/Female selection option on game creation menu

  • Several minor alignment adjustments.

Base Building:

Since some of you suggested that building didn't seem fluid enough, it was completely redone. We implemented a modular design based on automatic snapping and extension. Similar to no man's sky and subnautica approach.

Now parts come in blocks instead of individual pieces, it means that you don't have to put floors, roofs, and walls anymore, instead, you extend the current building block in any direction you want.
Things like corridors makes it easy to connect the different pieces together.

We have also added a remove function, now you can delete different parts of your base if you want to make changes.

We have also added inventory chests: it can store up to 9 items, and they snap to your base walls.

To power different components, we added a tethered power cable system that attaches to a power source, and extends to connect to your device:

Multiplayer:

Multiplayer was challenging and time consuming, keeping everything synchronized as players are building and transforming the world was very delicate. Good thing is that we got it working for now and have it ready for early access release.

Testing was done for two players at this time, however more is possible. Depending on the host's computational power, up to 8 players can be feasible. Testing is still needed.

The game has two playable characters: male and female.
Player customization is planned.

World generation:

We improved the generation algorithm to shuffle biomes more frequently. Also added a new dreamy region:

Misc:

Countless bug fixes, testing, bug fixes, and more testing.

That's it for now guys, thank you for sticking around.

Release date and roadmap

Hello everyone!

Thank you for your continuous interest in Ludoria!
After we saw how many of you were excited about the game, we couldn't help it but to get motivated even more, thus adding and improving many gaming elements.

Release date

Tentative release date is February 9th. We are currently working a new showcase video, should be up soon!

Multiplayer

We initially did not plan to release a multiplayer version of the game until after a couple game updates, but since many of you were interested in a co-op mode, we decided to push multiplayer into the top of our priority list and get it done before release! yay! Of course no one is safe from bugs, and we expect to start exterminating those since day one, that's why your help is appreciated.

Base building improvements

Besides multiplayer, we have improved base building by adding new building elements, chest inventories, auto-snapping and easy extension approach.
Of course everytime we make changes, many functionalities needs to be updated as well, like saving/loading systems and multiplayer synchronization.

Upcoming features

Things that we plan to achieve soon after release:

  • Character customization: Changing hair style, clothing, and colors.
  • Customize base color: Ability to change your base color from a predefined color set or a pallet.
  • Vehicles?

That's it for now guys, if you have any questions or comments feel free to ask : )
