Maps & Hazards

It's been a couple months since the Balance Update, and now I'm happy to announce the new Maps & Hazards update is ready to go live!



Change log:



  • Art Overhaul!

    Many places in the game have updated art, textures and ambient effects.

  • Cavern, Volcano, Factory, Graveyard and Ice Field maps all now have hazards!

    After a a small amount of time, something will occur on the maps that cause danger to the players.

    Cavern - A earthquake will start and a large boulder will fall from the ceiling, creating an AoE explosion.

    Volcano - The center of the map will erupt, punching a hole through the map.

    Factory - At half time, the fuse box in the factory will overload, causing the electric fences to form around the center platform.

    Ice Field - An avalanche will occasionally occur. Dropping Blizzard Bombs from the side of the cliff.

    Graveyard - Ghosts will spawn at regular intervals, that stun the player on hit.

  • The amount of spells in a Spell Book has now been reduced from 5 to 3.

    This was done to more easily allow players to swap and combo spells. As changing from 3 secondaries proved to be too cumbersome to be useful. Now instead of each secondary having it's own button mapped to swap spells, there is a quick swap button. Switching between the two secondaries chosen.

  • The Spellbook Achieve overhaul!

    The Spellbook Archive is now it's own interactable arena where the player can walk around, swap and edit Spellbooks, fight against training dummies and purchase hints with a new in game currency!

    Just speak to the book keeper at the back!

  • Carnage Balance tweaks

    You now start with 5 lives as opposed to 3 for the entirety of Carnage mode, bosses have had there DMG output lowered and HP reduced as too streamline the process of grinding out achievements and unlocks.

  • Instants, Concentration and Channeled

    Spells are now divided into 3 categories. Primaries and Secondaries can now be used at the same time.

    Instants - Can be used at anytime in conjunction with another spell.
    (Example: Using Fire Ball and Ice Shard at the same time)

    Concentration - Can be used at anytime in conjunction with an instant spell, but not another concentration spell. Usually spells that must charge up to be used.
    (Example: Using Flamethrower and Fire Ball is allowed, but not Flamethrower and Wind Arrow)

    Channeled - Can only be used by itself and disallows the user to cast any other spells while spell is active. These are usually powerful spells with high mana costs.
    (Example: Charging Arcane Cannon.)

  • PvP Teams!

    Team battles have now been introduced! Both locally and online.
    User can swap between 3 teams, No Team, Red Team or Blue Team.



+ TONS of bug and crash fixes.


Passive Abilities have been delayed to a later patch, mostly due to this update being as large as it is.
More fixes to come as the bugs show themselves.

The Balance - Hotfix 1

Fix issue where key was being mapped to the wrong button on keyboard. The Swap Spell button was being mapped to the wrong key.

Was registering as "T" rather than "TAB" as the tutorial stated.

THE BALANCE - UPDATE

The first milestone on MagiCarnage's roadmap has been released!

Many changes have been made to the game, primarily quality of life improvements and spell balancing.

Anyways, without farther ado, here's the change log!




  • A Training mode has been added, allowing players to replay the tutorial
  • 8 new skins have been added, along with 8 new achievements
  • Spell slots have been reduced from 5 to 3, to make Spellbooks feel more impactful and easier to use
  • A quick spell change button has been added
  • GUI now shows Primary mana charges
  • Implemented Random Spellbooks & Maps

  • Player spawn effect and sound now appears on death
  • Charge based spells now use mana before, rather than on fire

  • Fixed Death position bug for Geomancer and Technomancer
  • Fixed issue where being slowed while quickened would remove slow status
  • Fixed depth issues with Arcane Beam / Arcane Ball
  • Fixed UI selection bug in Spellbook Archive when navigating with Keyboard/Controller

  • Buffed Arcane Ball

  • Nerfed Shuriken DMG
  • Nerfed Geomancer DMG
  • Nerfed Fire Bomb DMG
  • Nerfed Vortex size, pull and DMG

  • Fixed crash on title when unlocking something

  • Plenty of polish and various other bugfixes everywhere

General bug fixes & Balancing

Did some patchwork in the form of debugging & balancing.



- Buffed Air Blast's knockback

- Nerfed Geomancer over all Damage output
- Nerfed Arcane Beam's Damage & Mana Cost

- Fixed bug with controls snapping back to the right when stick is let go
- Fixed bug where on fall in Minigame map, player would never respawn
- Fixed bug where player would get Game Over for losing minigame

- Fixed some Spell descriptions

Finally!


It's been 5 years since I started playing with the idea of MagiCarnage, and now after 4 test iterations, plenty of burnouts, and a dozen or so other concepts, it's finally here!

Aside from the release, I have 2 other announcements to make.



ROAD MAP




Here is the first Roadmap outlining the future of MagiCarnage! The first update coming within the next month or so, and every other update coming approximately every 2-3 months after.

If there are any changes to this roadmap I'll be sure to make an announcement and create a new updated one.

Although the server itself is still a WIP, over time I will be getting moderators and programming server commands and features.

QUICK BUG FIX

Made AI harder, fixed sprite depth glitch when falling and fixed problems with hidden spellbooks in Carnage mode

CARNAGE! A NEW GAME MODE

RE-INTRODUCING CARNAGE! A BRAND NEW GAMEMODE!



Carnage's name has been changed to Skirmish, and a new game mode of the old namesake has been added!




Try this 1 player game mode out where you fight against 10 strong opponents!

POLISH, NEW SPELLS AND A NEW MAP!

Magic Realm map has been added, as well as 2 new spells! Waves has been placed on hold indefinitely.





Online battles are much more polished now, and I'm very excited to say that with a few more bug fixes, spells and maps, the game will FINALLY, be ready for early access. Can't wait!
