Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered

Maguntsche Chapter Two is Entering Early Access | October 24th 2023

Maguntsche Chapter Two Enters Early Access on October 24, 2023

This project has been in development for several years now and has made its way through a great variety of different prototypes. As an independent developer, it has always been my dream to take a step forward and deliver something truly unique. Maguntsche Chapter One was developed in a similar fashion, with its fair share of monthly content updates, new features, and improvements all added at no additional cost. The feedback from players and fans alike is one of the primary reasons that Chapter One sits where it is today. I would like to bring this concept forward with Chapter Two and give players and fans the opportunity to be a central part of the development process. The game will launch as planned this October with a few changes going forward which I would like to discuss.

Establishing Communications for Early Access Feedback

I and other developers involved with the project will be establishing a discord server to communicate with players directly. Here, you will also be able to provide feedback, report bugs, and have a direct line of communication with me! This can equate to monthly developer chats, feedback sessions, and behind-the-scenes content as we continue to make Chapter Two into something more complete. Here we will also prioritize fixes and new content accordingly as we receive feedback from players.

Early Access Incentives

For your early support, we want to thank players for their patronage. In addition to receiving special roles within our Discord server, you will also be accredited as a contributor. Upon the final release of the game, early access supporters will also be gifted with some unique add-ons that will be accessible in-game. Below, we have a pricing roadmap for how you can expect the game to cost moving forward.

Initial Early Access on October 24, 2023 - $4.99 USD
Full Launch (Q4 2023 - Q1 2024) - $9.99 USD

There will also be a 25% discount for the first week that early access is available!

What Now?

In the coming weeks, we will post an announcement here on Steam with additional details and an invitation to our discord server. Here, you'll be able to ask questions directly as we continue forward. Thank you again for your interest in Maguntsche Chapter Two and we can't wait to have you all attending your employee orientations on October 24, 2023.

The Furthest Descent Expansion Pack Is Coming Early Next Year!

Introducing the Furthest Descent Expansion Pack

The Furthest Descent DLC for Maguntsche: Chapter One introduces a brand-new location for players to explore in Maguntsche Mode. A recent case of extreme weather in Macungie has opened up a once-forgotten mineshaft. Descend further into the mines and even further into madness. This expansion includes all new original music, achievements, and unique game mechanics for the Black Diamond Mine. Do you have what it takes to escape the Maguntsche Demon's new labyrinth?

Changes to Content Releases

This new DLC is the first of new content coming next year to the game. Unlike previous content updates, this will be optional and priced at USD 1.99. We should have the page public here on Steam in the coming weeks with more information about this DLC and the content provided. We are incredibly excited to share more details about this new content with everyone in the future. We will still offer quality-of-life and bug fixes in smaller updates. Our intention moving forward is to provide optional content after a year and a half of free content updates after the game's initial release. Our slated release for The Furthest Descent DLC is Q1 of 2023, until then stay tuned for more information!

The Anniversary Update is Available Now!

Welcome to The Anniversary Update

Earlier last month, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered's release here on Steam. It's been a wonderful year, and our team is very proud of all of the content we've been able to dish out for the game over the course of that year. This includes the Further Descent Update, The Superior Reign Update, Winter Update, and all of those smaller updates in between that have improved our game's experience. Till then, we give you the final update for Maguntsche Remastered.

Update [0.4.0] Patch Notes

New Difficulty Options & Demonic Mode for Maguntsche Mode!

We are introducing a variety of new difficulty options for Maguntsche Mode, one of which includes Demonic mode. This new difficulty mode introduces new game mechanics and instant death scenarios designed for players looking for a new challenge! Each difficulty mode increases the speed, damage, and time duration between objectives. We look forward to seeing players try these new options out!

New Volume 3 of The Maguntsche Archives!

Explore an all new addition to the archives. Three college friends return to their hometown of Macungie, Pennsylvania, for the holidays. During a town-wide new years celebration, discoveries are made, and chaos brews. The Superior's grip on the town tightens. Will Ian, Logan, and Sarah be able to withstand its new recruits or will they become the latest victims of the dark forces infiltrating this small town?

We've added the new Breakneck Quietus Challenge to Superior Mode! This new challenge reflects the new Demonic difficulty mode in Maguntsche Mode. Players can now experience a new instant-death scenario with higher reward stakes! This will be the last new challenge added to Superior Mode.

New Achievements!

In addition to the visual overhaul of our achievements, we are also introducing some new achievements for players to collect regarding some of the new difficulty options we've added to Maguntsche Mode.

A Message From The Lead Developer

"Hello everyone! My name is Kaleb Wassa. While speaking on the behalf of our team, we are all very thankful for the support we've gotten from players and contributors that have helped us shape this project over the past year. It had always been a dream of mine to publish a game here on the Steam platform and that vision was achieved last summer. Since then, I've learned a great deal about what it means to be an indie game developer and how to improve my communication and planning abilities. Without the members of our team, our players, and my close friends this game would not be where it is today. I wanted to personally thank everyone because this has been a life changing experience and I am thrilled for what the future entails for this series and for myself. Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered will be a free-to-play title here on Steam as a token of my appreciation for all of the gamers and friends and contributors that helped shape this project into what it is today. If necessary, I will be releasing smaller patches for bugs and other issues that may arise in the future. If that is not the case, This is goodbye...for now!"

Upcoming Anniversary Update & Price Change Announcement

The Anniversary Update is Coming Soon!

Earlier this week, we celebrated the one year anniversary of Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered here on Steam. We have been working extensively on a final update to add some new content and promote some new quality of life changes that we believe will benefit all players. The past year has been a great experience and we'll have a more formal message later to address our players and supporters.

Switching to a Free-To-Play Pricing

To celebrate this moment, we have collectively decided as a team to make Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered a free game for all Steam users. As a small team of developers, this project remains more a passion that we intend to share with as many people as possible. For now, if you'd like to continue to financially support our efforts, you can buy the game while its discounted for the next two weeks during this year's Steam Summer Sale. Otherwise, we'll be making the game free sometime in July. We'll have more details on our upcoming update soon, have a great weekend everyone and thank you for your support in the past year.

Small Update [0.3.2] is Available Now!

Hello everyone, this small update is primarily focusing on quality-of-life improvements and fixing some bugs. We hope you enjoy some of these small changes. The week-long discount has also ended, but we are planning new discounts in the future! Below you can see a summary of changes in this update.

New Features & Improvements

  • Updated the Main Menu with a new environment and implemented audio track transitions for the Maguntsche Mode and Superior Mode.

  • Updated Maguntsche Mode's in-game description, removed outdated tutorial.

  • Added a button shortcut to Maguntsche: Chapter Two's page on our official website.

  • We implemented a major change to the random seed generation algorithm that should result in a greater variety of level combinations and randomness which will ultimately improve the experience of both Maguntsche and Superior Mode.

  • Implemented some small changes to the lower quality graphic settings which may provide a small boost in performance to low-end systems. Some of these changes include reducing particle ray casting budgets and shadow distances.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused the same difficulty buff to be applied to the Maguntsche Demon's stats when reaching time milestones in Superior Mode.

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in the game generating the same level variant combination every match in Maguntsche Mode. You should now find more unique level combinations and better replay-ability.

  • Fixed an exploitative issue that caused the Maguntsche Demon to be slowed down by the flashlight even when disabled using the Total Darkness challenge modifier in Superior Mode.

Known Issues

We are still investing a potential memory leak issue with Superior Mode that progressively gets worse as the player gains score. Please be aware that the game will crash and could potentially cause other issues with your system. Our hope is to diagnose the issue soon and to release another patch within the next couple of weeks.

There is an issue with scene transitions that results in infinite loading. This doesn't happen too often, but it has been replicated throughout most scene transitions. We are investigating the issue and will hopefully have a fix soon.

Upcoming Small Update [0.3.2] Releasing March 19th, 2022

Hello everyone! It's been a couple of months since we released the Winter Quality of Life Update. To follow up, we will be releasing a small patch this weekend with some bug fixes we've discovered through recent testing. The details of this update will be released in our patch notes when the update goes live. This is all in preparation for another update we are planning later this year.

This summer, we will be celebrating Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered's first year here on the Steam platform. This content update will be slighter smaller than some of the stuff we have released in the past but will still have some cool new features and improvements. After the release of this update, we will officially begin shifting focus towards developing Maguntsche: Chapter Two. We will have more details regarding this project once we have some newer content to share with players.

Maguntsche: Chapter Two Development Update

Maguntsche: Chapter Two is still early in the development process. Our team's goal is to release the game on Steam by the end of this year, but it is appearing more likely that another delay is imminent. Regardless, our team hopes that everyone will enjoying the remaining content that we have in store for Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered on Steam.

The Winter Quality of Life Update is Here!

Happy Holidays everyone! Today we celebrate a huge milestone for Maguntsche: Chapter One Remastered. As the year comes to an end, we look back at all of the amazing content updates we've released this year. The Further Descent Update and The Superior Reign Update were our primary focuses of this year, adding new features and replay-ability for players. To end the year, we are closing with a massive quality of life update that polishes up some of the game's loose ends and untouched features. Below, we've compiled a list of important changes we think you should know about.

Major Graphics Update

We've finally finished updating the game's environments with the new assets we introduced in The Superior Reign update. In addition to these changes in the environment is improvements to the game's lighting and post processing effects. The Maguntsche Demon's model has also been completely update with new geometry and textures to improve artistic consistency. We've also added some new effects to the Realmverse, you should notice some new fog effects in both Maguntsche Mode and Superior Mode.

Improvements to Maguntsche Demon Behavior

You'll notice some differences in the Maguntsche Demon's behavior. Aside from some of the balancing changes we've made, you'll notice some differences in his animations as well. In the future, we want to explore adding new animations to better communicate his current state.

Added New Superior Mode Challenges

We added some new challenges to Superior Mode for you to try out! The Speed Demon challenge increases the Maguntsche Demon's default movement speed from the start and increases his speed buffs when the player reaches a time milestone. Face of Unfathomable Horrors increases the glitch effects on screen when looking at the Maguntsche Demon and slightly drains your health.

Added Loading Screens

While this doesn't sound like much of an improvement, it will better help users and developers determine what the game is doing between loading various different scenes in the Unity game engine. This will make it easier to identify potential issues where the game might hang or not reach a specific scene.

Added Brightness Setup Screen

Upon loading the game for the first time, the player will now be met with a screen for them to tune their brightness. Brightness settings have been improved and can still be adjusted both in the menu and in-game.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that prevented End-Game Conditions being met when player falls through level hazards
  • Fixed an issue that caused the player to blink before level transition was made in Superior Mode
  • Fixed an issue that slowed the Maguntsche Demon down even if the players flashlight was dead
  • Fixed an issue that prevented accessibility to kitchen in Superior Mode levels
  • Fixed an issue that caused the FX volume to be lowered when adjusting Music volume levels
  • Fixed an issue that adjusted the Ambient Light for a scene instead of Gamma
  • Fixed an issue that caused the player's Steam account profile image to not display on main menu

Balancing & Other Changes

  • Decreased Time Milestone Increase By 40%
  • Decreased Outlast Score Event Bonus Gain By 22%
  • Increased Fragment Finder Score Event Points By 18%

The Winter Quality of Life Update is Coming Soon!

As the year is coming to an end, we wanted to celebrate the season with some new quality of life improvements for Maguntsche: Chapter One. Our team has expanded quite significantly, and we are all dedicated to delivery quality improvements that will improve our game's experience for players both old and new. The Winter Quality of Life Update will be releasing on December 22, 2021! Now that's out of the bag, I wanted to do a quick overview of some of the things we've been working on.

Winter Quality of Life Update Highlights

-Added Three New Challenges to Superior Mode

-Improved Visuals for Environments (Graphics Overhaul for Maguntsche Mode is Complete!)

-Improved Visuals for Maguntsche Demon and Animations

-Experimental Rework of Maguntsche Archives Mechanics for Maguntsche Mode.

-Additional Settings & Improved Control over Audio, Brightness, and Post Processing Effects.

-Improved User Interfaces & Visual Feedback

-Various Bug Fixes & Balances (More Details Coming Soon)

We will have more details regarding all of these great improvements in the future. On launch day you'll find more detailed documentation on these changes in our patch notes here on Steam. With that in mind, we wanted to give players some hints about stuff we're planning for the new year. After the release of this QOL update, we will begin shifting our focus to next year's major content update.

Information About Next Year's Content Update

One thing we've learned from our players is that the onboarding experience can be difficult at times. Next year's content update will feature a revamped tutorial and a brand new cinematic experience that will better draw players into the universe of the Maguntsche Series. We believe this new experience will encourage players to complete secondary objectives through the Maguntsche Archives, which will also be redesigned to provide better rewards and incentives to players. Everything is still in the early design phases and we don't want to reveal too many details, but we'll have more information after the release of The Winter Quality of Life Update. Till then, stay tuned!

Best Regards,

The GlassDev Entertainment Team
