PLAY The Mahokenshi Demo During Tacticon!

Greetings Mahokenshi!

We are very excited to announce that the Mahokenshi demo returns during the Tacticon Steam event (Sept 22-26)! In the demo, you will be able to play as Kaito for the first time ever. The Mahokenshi from the House of Sapphire is sturdy and powerful, charging at his enemies like an unstoppable juggernaut.



Playstyle


As this is the first time Kaito is playable, let's talk about his playstyle for a bit. Unlike the other Mahokenshi, Kaito prefers being surrounded by his opponents. Although he has multiple deck archetypes and synergies, most of them revolve around stacking defense.

Spikes




The best offense is a good defense. Kaito can stack Spikes, icy thorns that hurt enemy attackers, even from afar!

Charge




Kaito does not dash like other Mahokenshi. Instead, his primary movement option is to Charge towards his opponent. A Charge will allow Kaito to take the shortest possible path to his enemy, even dashing across water.


First Strike / Prepared




Some of Kaito's cards will have First Strike and Prepared effects. These cards will have different effects depending on when you play them within your turn, forcing you to think carefully about the order in which you play them.

Provoke




Charging isn't the only way to get close to enemies. With his Provoke cards, Kaito can force enemies to move into striking distance.

Mahokenshi Developer Showcase At PAX Online!

Greetings, Samurai!

Want to learn more about the world of Mahokenshi? Well, we bring good tidings! We will be participating in PAX Online with a special video featuring our own Game Director, David Cicurel.

David will be talking about the four different Mahokenshi, design choices, and much more! We'll also be showing raw gameplay footage of Sota, the master of stealth. Watch him employ stealth and trickery to overcome any obstacle!



Our hour-long segment will be on Saturday September 3rd on the PAX Twitch channel at 1 PM PT / 10 PM CEST. You can take a look at the Steam sidebar to see that time converted to your local timezone.

We will also be in the chat to answer questions, so come in and say hi!


Mahokenshi - NEW Trailer + Release Window

We're back with another update from the Celestial Islands. Last time, we mentioned that Mahokenshi would be releasing in 2023. We're excited to announce that we can now give you a more specific window, as Mahokenshi will be releasing in January 2023!



Those of you who tested Mahokenshi in its earlier stages, or follow us on social media, may have already gotten a good peek at the gameplay of Ayaka, the Mahokenshi from the House of Ruby. In our brand new trailer, you can get a closer look at all four houses and their different playstyles.



So, which of the four Mahokenshi do you like most? You can expect some more clips of Sota from the House of Jade on our socials and Discord in the coming weeks, so make sure you're following us if you enjoy sneaky and poison-focused gameplay!

Mahokenshi — Coming 2023!

Samurai, a cool new breeze has reached the Celestial Islands.

We know you've been eager to hear more Mahokenshi news, and we're here to deliver!

We're excited to announce that we have partnered with Iceberg Interactive, an indie publisher with quite a bit of experience in publishing strategy games. Together we will be bringing you Mahokenshi in 2023! To celebrate, we've whipped up a cool new trailer for you to check out.


We also decided not to enter Early Access before full release. We felt that it would be better to bring you the full, polished Mahokenshi experience in one go. There may be other opportunities for testing in the future, however.



And for those who are new here, welcome! Here's what you can expect from Mahokenshi:

  • Become a mighty Mahokenshi, a samurai mage, wielding both blade and magic.
  • 4 Samurai Houses, each with their own unique abilities and strengths.
  • Hone your skills and build your deck wisely. There are 200 cards to discover and countless play styles to be perfected.

Mahokenshi Opens The Doors To Its Samurai Houses

Dear Samurais!

Thanks to everyone who wishlisted the game and who joined us on Discord! We truly appreciate your support, and we were able to read all of your valuable feedback so far 😊 That being said, our upcoming update has a lot of improvements, and we want to call on you to be the first to road test our Early Access Preview.
Below is a summary of some of our upcoming improvements, to give you greater insight into what’s on the horizon.

MAIN MENU
The new menu has been updated with all new visuals! We wanted to refine the display of just about everything, and as we're going to add new upcoming features, the space needed to be organized a little better.

MISSIONS’ HUB

The Missions Hub has been added to facilitate mission selection, as each one is progressively gated.



● You will find the 3 main missions from the demo.
● The first mission is the tutorial to introduce you to the gameplay. It has been reworked to be more fluid, because the first version had a lot of explanations displayed on the screen during your fights.
● The missions have a one-time currency reward: more information about how to use it with the realm tree below

On your adventures, you’ll notice a challenge button which leads to some greyed out elements: this just indicates we’re still working on this feature.

The Realm Tree button also leads to a largely greyed out screen, but with a bunch of upgrades for your Samurai.




REALM TREE

Throughout your journey, you will also accumulate a currency which you will be able to spend in the Realm Expansion, to upgrade your Mahokenshi.



If you follow the path in each realm, you’ll be able to unlock unique features.



This ranges from upgrading your cards to your Mahokenshi’s strength.



For now, some parts of the Realm Tree aren’t interactive and are greyed out, as concept work is still being undertaken.

CHALLENGES (not implemented yet)
Each mission in Mahokenshi will have its own set of challenges to obtain more currencies and provide you with powerful upgrades. Over time, we’ll be adding far greater, deeper explanations, but for now it’s just an idea.



CONTENT

We’re redefining the enemies behavior, so that the Insurgents will flee when they are low life. If you don’t kill them, they are going to seek help from their friends and bring them to you!



Oh, and Ayaka - the main playable character from House of Ruby has an all-new look!

WEATHERED ENVIRONMENTS

A common request from players has been weather effects, and we’re pleased to say that they’ve been added. We must stress that these aren’t dynamic and are fixed on a map. One of our ideas for the future is to eventually make the weather affect the gameplay, such as reducing movement or vision.
VFX & SOUND



We’re super pleased to say that there’s been a range of improvements across animations (notably combat) as well as sound for this build. We think it makes an enormous difference to the way combat plays and feels. While not quite finished, it’s a huge improvement on what we had previously.

LOCALIZATION

You’ve asked for it, and our localization has begun. First on the list? French! Hourra!



WRAP UP
As we work towards our Early Access for winter, we’re keen to adopt a whole new direction for Mahokenshi, one that places you - our community - at its heart. Opening up the client, detailing our roadmap, showcasing what we’re working on and what we’re planning will be a regular feature of this new approach. We hope you join us for the adventure: there’s some exciting things around the corner.
