Devlog #3 - 🥊 A Message To All Fighters Out There 🎮
Today is the day, champions!
In today’s devlog we’ve asked the devs to tell us more about how they’ve grown during the making of Maki: Paw of Fury 🥺 and share some future plans for more games and comics in the world of Pangea.
To all of you reading the devlogs and interacting with us on social media - thank you for waiting for Maki: Paw of Fury’s release with us - it’s been a long time coming and we’re hoping your excitement stayed as strong as Tincho 🦊🥊
Without further ado 📖
For a studio that has previously done casual games, Maki: Paw of Fury was a big challenge. Barcode Games as a whole have learned a lot during its development, filtered a lot of ideas, and carried the most important ones to the finish line.
Thanks to the fluffy residents of Pangea, the studio evolved and poured their love into a true passion project. This also rings true for the art team, who put work into each and every pixel of the game’s visuals.
As for future plans, Bacord Games has them aplenty! Let’s start at the beginning:
First off we have Mayhem In Pangea, a classic shoot ‘em up with a lot of humor in the style of Parodius. Where we follow the events that unite Maki: Paw of Fury with MAKI 2. The game will feature colorful art and a 2d blend with 3d bosses.
Below you can see a bit of gameplay with Kami on the frontlines!
Next is Mapu’s Quest, a 3D roguelike where we follow Mapu on his own adventure in a new dimension called ZYX (pronounced like six)!
And then we have Maki 2. Since Bacord Games finished the development of Maki, they’ve asked themselves “What would we have done with more budget and time?”. From there all the brainstorming started came sketches, sketches led to concepts, concepts led to plans, and plans turned into demos. More teasers coming soon!
To unify all those stories, Bacord Games is working on a manga with the details left out of Paw of Fury.
They want to dedicate their time and continue to work on stories and ideas even outside of video games. Underneath their cute surface, the characters living in Pangea are their own people with goals (like Mapu), and vices (like Tincho’s big ego).
With these characters and the world of Pangea, the sky is the limit of telling stories. Are you guys ready to see more from Maki’s adorable friend group in the near future?
And here we go with our final character introduction - this time featuring Maka and Tincho!
Maka (just Maka) The drummer of a band called BUM BUM LADY, where she makes PUNK-POP music together with her sister. Maka is quite the character, while her sister is a singer with the voice of an angel. Maka is aware that she’s in a video game and has signed a contract - if she doesn’t help Maki, her newest album won’t be released!
Fun fact: Maka’s diet consists solely of soda, coffee, and chili. That’s why her nerves are so spicy!
Tincho Garcia Pichot It’s him! Pandora’s top sports star. His body is a temple, his life is sports, and he is the most well-known athlete in Pangea! He has crushed his phone because of his big muscles. Holding tiny things can be a bit of a struggle when you are a man of steel!
Fun fact: Tincho’s diet is hypercaloric - he eats plenty of meals and snacks in between. Yum!
Thank you for reading devlog #3 of Maki: Paw of Fury! Today is the day Maki release on Steam and Nintendo Switch, and it’s also the last day of our giveaway.
Make sure to stay hydrated, get a workout, and keep fighting - see you in Pangea, fighters 🦊🥊

Devlog #2 - 💪 Designing an Arcade Beat 'Em Up 💥
Hello, fighters 🥊 welcome to Maki: Paw of Fury’s second devlog!
Today we’re going to be talking about 💪 Designing an Arcade Beat 'Em Up 💥, which will include bits and pieces about the development, changes, and inspirations behind Maki: Paw of Fury 🦊
We also have a little giveaway going on, more information is at the end of this devlog!
Maki: Paw of Fury’s development started because of Bacord Games’ love for arcade games. Inspired by 80s and 90s classics, and proud owners of multiple arcade machines, the developers wanted to share the beautiful culture that they are a part of with the rest of the world.
They started Maki’s development with a single room - THE DOJO. They’ve designed more as they went, expanding both the game itself and the world of Pangea.
Many things change when designing a game - from characters, through movesets, to pacing. From the start of Maki: Paw of Fury’s development, Barcode Games added and removed a lot of movement and refined many mechanics, focusing on the most important aspects of the beat ‘em up genre. In an earlier version of the game, enemies had grapple attacks. The snake enemy, Isabell, used to have a constricting attack. After a bit of thinking on it, this move slowed the gameplay too much to be fully enjoyable.
Similarly to the main gameplay, the minigames also received their own little changes. Those were mostly related to movement speed and difficulty, the goal was to smooth out the breaks in between fights. And of course - to make them even more enjoyable!
Maki: Paw of Fury has three playable characters, each with its own unique moveset so any beat ‘em up fan can find something for themselves. While looking incredibly cool is very important during a fight, these three differ not only visually and animation-wise but also in speed and style.
Maki is a balanced character who is easy to play with a kit that’s perfect for those who want to stay flexible in a sparring match!
Tincho is a heavy grappler, picking enemies up left and right, and throwing them at each other. Because of his might, he’s a bit slower than the other two
Maka, meanwhile, is the queen of AOEs and control. She’s fast, she’s furious, and she hits many enemies at once. Her long-ranged hits are weaker in comparison to the other two.
While everyone has their own fighting style, Maki practiced Tsume no Ken - Way of the Claw. This is a martial art that exists in Pangea. It can be used by anyone and it adapts to the capabilities of the ones who practice it - so size is not an issue for martial artists who practice it. Currently, the only master who teaches it is old Stem. The inspiration for it was taken from classic Chinese martial art movies and fighting games like Street Fighter, where every character practices a different martial art.
As for Stem - more about him will be in the manga Bacord Games in preparing! Stay tuned 🦊✨
Before we move on to the next character profile we have something to announce!

Devlog #1 - The World of Maki
Hello and welcome to Maki: Paw of Fury’s first devlog!
As we’re all waiting for the game’s release we’ve prepared something juicy together with the developers of Maki - Bacord Games!
Have you ever wondered where the idea of Maki came from? What is the world our fluffy friends live in? You can get to know them better right here, right now 🥊
Without further ado - welcome to the World of Maki known as the continent of Pangea!
First off - inspirations. Those who’ve played beat ‘em ups, old arcade games, or who were around in the 80s and 90s will feel Maki: The Paw of Fury’s inspiration in their bones. The most honorable mentions when it comes to inspiration are games like Final Fight, Streets of Rage, and Vendetta, as well as shows like Dragon Ball. Even though the developers added a different personal touch to the style of the game, the fluffy martial artists put fear in the hearts of their enemies just the same!
A lot of the in-world and in-game places and all names are references to Argentine humor or something native to the country of Bacord Games. From Pancakes (in Argentina it would be PANKUKAS) to ALTALLANTA - there are many inside jokes that you can expect to find!
As for the continent of Pangea - its history is full of controversy!
Some historians claim that millions of years ago, the world had three big landmasses separated by oceans. A highly advanced civilization that diverged from apes was governing over them - the enigmatic humans. But those who live on Pangea prefer to think that their world exists with not much care for its history. Living in the moment!
The leading historian in this case - Mr. Marmoto Henkins, doesn’t care about popular opinion and stays all day on Techno Island. There, he continues his research in peace, away from prying eyes.
As he works, the world of Pangea evolves, and the shadow of the biggest company on the continent grows… something smells fishy here.
And in the middle of this, we have our characters - they're well-known on Pangea either for their brawn, beauty, or for their brains 🧠
Their adventure across Pangea starts with Maki and Mapu. Before the events of the game, they were good friends - fans of Famicon games and human movies. One afternoon, Mapu brings Maki a mysterious videotape labeled T2 and tells the fox about a secret that will change the world if they don’t act quickly. Maki prefers playing on his Famicon to saving the world… at least for now.
At the end of every devlog we’ll be putting down the bio of a Maki: Paw of Fury character - this time, you can get a glimpse at Maki and Mapu!
Maki Kitsume
Little is known about his past. A long time ago he was found on the side of a road by Kami - one of the most well-known influencers in Pangea. Since then they’ve become the best of friends! Not too long after he met Mapu and the two spent time together playing games and watching movies. Maki liked his peaceful life and refused to move - until one faithful day Mapu kidnaps Kami and this is where Maki: Paw of Fury starts!
Fun fact: Maki would eat anything, but he hates vegetables. His favorite food weapon is tuna.
Mapu Concollore
A naturalist with a big brain. He might be foul-mouthed but has a heart of gold. He grew up in the forest with his herd and befriended Maki when they were little. He works at the biggest store chain on Pangea COSO.CO and is the right hand of its leader DOCTOR COSO. He is obsessed with something called T2 and wants to save the world of Pangea… but his friends a not as eager!
Fun fact: Mapu is vegan - guess his heart of gold can’t allow him to touch even the tastiest of fish!
Champions, thank you so much for reading devlog #1 - The World of Maki!
We will see you soon in devlog #2 and in the meantime - comment what kind of animal would you be in the world of Pangea! 🦊🐻🦥 And what martial art (or sports discipline) would suit you 😤

Steam Pirates vs. Ninjas Fest is organized to get the answer to the eternal and one of the most important questions of players: "Who would win the duel, pirates or ninjas?". So we'll see if Maki, along with the other ninjas, will rise to the challenge and not give way to the pirates on the ultimate battlefield. Although the answer to this question seems to be pretty easy...
Maki: Paw of Fury is an action-packed game created as a tribute to arcade classics from the dim days of slot machines.
Combining beautiful Asian-inspired animation, retro pixel graphics, and a one-of-a-kind weapon of ultimate destruction – the tuna – the game will undoubtedly capture the hearts of gamers.
And there is also a romantic thread. For Maki is drawn into the midst of a world full of danger after the love of his life is kidnapped by a mysterious villain, and he is forced to set out to rescue her.
What the villains don't know, though, is that Maki is not, as it would seem, an adorable and defenseless fox, but a warrior skilled in martial arts. They will find this out to their doom.
The game is also available as a demo version on Steam!
