Today brings a new patch, introducing signs, bugfixes and more miniblocks!
More Miniblocks!
As requested, 9 new blocks are added to spice up your favorite miniblock contraptions! Leaning in on the double lane variants and a special converter piece which can be used to go from a single wide track to the miniblock. (or the other way around)
Signs
Also a highly requested item. Now you have access to 3 sign objects (in Decorations -> Props) where you can type text, change it's color and size. Scaling the object scales the text with it, so you can make gigantic signs and tiny post-it notes! Useful for needing to remind yourself what to do. You can also turn them into prefabs of course and paint the signs themselves.
Patch 1.1.4
- Added 9 new miniblocks with double lane functionality. - Added a special miniblock for transitioning to single wide tracks. - Added 3 signs, you can type whatever you want on them and set the text size & color. - Added a toggle for the camera following the newly build freeform track. (in Gameplay Settings)
- Placing a prefab now automatically adds a new group of the placed prefab. - Subscribed workshop worlds now display the workshop title in the 'Load World' panel, this is to prevent confusion with the workshop item title being different to the actual world name.
- Fixed an issue where the camera wouldn't move to the newly build freeform track when the game was paused. - Fixed an issue where I forgot to add spawn buttons to the miniblock spawner. - Fixed an issue where 2 miniblocks had their images swapped. - Fixed an issue where the race timer text and lapcount would be invisible if it became too large. - Fixed an issue where marbles who spawned inside a portal would teleport to the wrong location. - Fixed an issue on the garden map where the greenhouse door had an inaccurate hitbox.
Other news
As you might have seen I'm mostly working on the new game. However this does not mean Marble World will never get updates again. Marble World still responsible for my income, so there's no way I'll be dropping it anytime soon.
So today I launched the Steam page for a new game I have been working on for the past months. Now I'm going to be real, there's not that much overlap between Marble World and the new game, however if you find it interesting you would do me a great favour if you wishlisted the game :)
I've been wanting to make this game for a really long time, and thanks to you I can work on this. Without you I wouldn't be able to do this fulltime and most likely never have started on this gigantic project.
Thank you, for all your support in any form you have given.
Back to Marble World news: I have been working on an update with bugfixes and some new content! Coming soon :)
SimFest Discount!
Hey everyone!
In case you haven't seen it yet, Marble World amongst other great sim games are on discount during SimFest! Marble World (base game and the DLC) will be on a 30% discount till the end on July 24th!
It's been a while, I've been busy with a new game and there have been some positive things happening in life that also needed some attention. (A new house and a dog!)
Nevertheless I have been working on some new Marble World things, and today I'd like to introduce the first part of what I call: Miniblocks. In addition a piston has been added and there are various bugfixes and general improvements!
Patch Notes
- Added various miniblocks that allow for complex & intricate builds. - Added more attachpoints to existing tubes. - Added a piston that is controllable with logic. - Added the last played world name in the continue button on the main menu . - Added a toggle to always show small objects on screen, even when far away. (this is off by default for performance.)
- Updated the attachpoint snapping code. - The DLC grace period check is now 30 days. - The camera now moves when building with freeform, always keeping the newest build track in sight. - Updated the maximum amount of marble effects from 500 to 1000. - Darkened the move tool arrows to contrast better against the cube. - Optimized a check for the 2 booster achievements, not having both achievements unlocked would result in lag when a lot of marbles passed a booster at the same time.
- Fixed an issue where the total amount of marbles logic block would cut off numbers if the number was too big. - Fixed an issue where moving multiple objects at the same time would not respect the distance between those objects.
Roadmap
Last time I said I'd talk about the 2023 roadmap... well, life got in the way a bit, and the new game as well. I personally didn't feel like talking about it as the new game was dominating my worktime and I wasn't sure how much time I would end up freeing for Marble World. This meant I couldn't promise features to be done within X time so I ended up not mentioning anything to avoid promises I couldn't keep.
So, to compromise: here's the list of features I'd like to add, but I can't tell you when they'll arrive. - A logic pulse extender - Showing heights on every freeform point to easily see if tracks are aiming downwards - Miniblocks update 2 (out of 2) - Controller support - Saved camera positions that activate through keypress or logic
And here's the roadmap I try to keep up to date which tells which items are going to be in the next patch: https://trello.com/b/LU9G4CGR/roadmap
Small patch today consisting of some changes to the scaling system and introducing some new logic pieces! In addition, a grace period has been added to the game regarding owning the DLC when playing in offline mode.
Patch Notes
- Increased the maximum distance of the mover object - Added a grace period for the DLC check. Normally the game checks if you legitimately own the DLC by asking the Steam servers. However when not having internet or if you are offline it can't check it and would normally result in the game thinking you don't own the DLC. I've added a 7 day grace period from the last time the game could check if the DLC ownership was valid.
- Added a lap count logic block. This block emits the current lap number when a race is active. - Added a math's logic block. It can add, subtract, divide or multiply the 2 given numbers. - Added a total lap number logic block. This block emits the total amount of laps needed to finish when a race is active. - Added a logic block that emits the current amount of marbles as a number. - Added a logic block that emits 1 pulse on race end.
- Updated the scaling tool to support better scaling when having multiple objects selected. They now also change position wise as you'd expect it to happen. - Updated the bomber to have additional settings for explosion radius, explosion force and if the affected marbles should be destroyed.
Next week
In the next week I'll be posting the roadmap for 2023, which will contain all features that will be added to the game (and also the ones that won't make it). Along with reasoning of why and a small bit of looking back to 2022!
Small update just before Christmas starts (here at least). Fixing 2 important bugs and adding some small Christmas decorations since I had some extra time left.
Patch Notes
- Fixed a bug where loading the game with the DLC purchased could remove all DLC skins/effects from custom marbles - Fixed a bug where I forgot to add the ability to switch environments in worlds to the Winterland environment
