Memetown USA

Memetown USA is Now Public Domain

Hey everyone! For those of you who weren't aware, shortly after releasing Memetown USA, I served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That's why you haven't heard from me in so long. Now I have returned! And I have some big news.

As of this moment, I hereby forfeit my copyright on Memetown USA and officially stick it in the public domain, where it belongs. This wasn't how I initially planned to announce this; in fact, the game contains an easter egg that leads to an online treasure hunt across the internet that eventually announces the game to be public domain. Sadly, all of you were too dumb to find it (including me after returning home from missionary service), so I'm doing it this way instead. Starting now, you are free to download, use, or modify Memetown USA in any way that you want. I will not remove any paid versions of the game, because I’m lazy. Consider it a way to donate to yours truly.

Free copy of the game.

Want to examine the source code for meme references or make mods to the game? Heck, you can even make an entirely new game out of the assets and sell it for profit if you want to. If you want to do any of those things, just download the entire Unity project folder and get cracking. This is taking up like a third of my Google Drive storage so y'all better be thankful. More details are in some text files I threw in there. Note you will need the Unity editor installed in order to run it (version 2018.2.0f2 was used to build the final game). And I make no guarantees that you won't throw up upon viewing the source code. That's my solemn promise to you.

You can also see my early development plans on a Trello board.

Developing Memetown was a crazy adventure that taught me a ton about game development and even more about the meme economy. However, after re-playing the game as a returned missionary, I realized it's criminal to charge people four-and-a-fifth bucks for this piece of garbage. Now it's free for everyone. As for me, I'm working on some new projects, but I have nothing to announce right now. Stay tuned! Nothing I make will ever be better than Memetown, though. That's a promise šŸ‘šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘

I'm super grateful for your interest in my dumb meme game! Love ya, bye!
