Some (good and bad) news - Open letter

Hello merchants!

It's been a while since the game has had an update and information about it. I personally apologize to all those who have had expectations of Merchant Of Phenistoria. To sum up, it's been a difficult year for me, and the game's development has suffered as a result. What's more, since communication isn't my strong point, I wasn't able to express these problems earlier.

Merchant Of Phenistoria is a game close to my heart, a mix of RPG and trading game. The story is part of a much larger lore that I've been working on for years (including a previously published board game). Unfortunately, I didn't have the time, means or energy to continue with this project, resulting in an absence of several months.

My personal situation having improved recently, I'd like to get back to the project a bit more. This doesn't mean, however, that development will resume as before...
On a more technical note, I've started migrating the project from version 3 to 4 of the Godot game engine, offering more resources for 3D (animations, visual effects, performance) and other aspects such as AI pathfinding. Development of the rest of the game will only resume after this migration. I don't want to be too optimistic, so don't expect a new update for a few months yet.

Minor Release Notes: Alpha14.3

Gameplay:

- Added a rival for the guild. The rival guild tries to make actions (contracts).

UI:

- Added icons for statistics
- Added a button to move all items from the mercenary guild inventory to the player inventory
- Closed the taxes window after pressing it

Fixes:

- Various fixes for saving and loading.


And most importantly:

Merchant of Phenistoria is mainly a solo-dev game; but without the help of many people it would never have seen the light of day, that's why :

- Add the credits scene; it will be filled in time (sorry for the oversight)

Hello merchant!

The update is finally here!
We have reworked the level-design as well as the heroes' combat mechanics. Now you can see fights with a "brand new" UI:




The whole level-design has been reworked with a bigger map (which will allow us to add more story and quest elements later on). The crypt has also been completely reworked with some new surprises :)




Known problems:

- pathfinding with heroes
- guard stop patrolling
- the mouse can be offset
- environment bug (the game looks too "white")

  • heroes movement in training camp

We are glad to present our new update introducing competition and guild actions as various finetuning. We recommend starting a new game.

Gameplay:


  • Guild and theirs members can perform new “action” as gold theft or sabotage
  • Pay gold to other guilds or use your mercenaries to perform these actions
  • Adventurer guild can become your competitors and buy a shop
  • Heroes will choose a shop based on reputation and alignment
  • Small rework on town level up with goals to accomplish
  • new town UI for infos about town



Finetuning:


  • Improve various UI



Misc:

  • “Assassination target” player skill now implemented ;)
  • New “night” flower to find
  • Reduce costs of experiences on various player skills
  • screenshots are now saved in a sub-folder
