v1.0.7 - Welcome Oculus Rift + Touch!

Happy New Year!

I'm happy to welcome Oculus Rift users to MerperVR!

While this was technically possible before given the OpenVR support ( which still holds true for other headsets ) this release adds Oculus-specific UI to match the touch controllers and positions UI in a way that's easier to use on a seated experience.

Note that given that this is a manipulation-centric experience, you will still need to have touch controllers. Take a look:





For everyone else, I tweaked the laser pointers a bit and the way the grip button moves the UI.

v1.0.6 - more PBR and uploadable screenshots

Hello Everyone,

This version brings the semi-transparent material that lets you see through your models to find their skeletons in line with the main PBR renderer.

It also integrates better with the overall Steam platform, not just SteamVR / OpenVR - this means your screenshots will now be uploadable when you hit the screeshot button in EXPRESS mode. Please share yours!

There's also a litte update for those of you without VR - as mentioned before, the game will run outside of a VR context, it's just not very usable without the head tracking and motion controllers. Still, I added WSAD keyboard support for non-VR environment so you can move around the UI.

And for those of you who want to try it and don't have the right system requirements ( 99.9% of the time your GPU does not support OpenGL 4.5 ) you'll get a more descriptive error message before the application exits.

v1.0.5 - Improved Environments

Hello All,

This patch adds a few more HDR environment maps and defaults to use higher resolution ones by default.

For the generated enviroments the sky model uses a single scattering simulation of a physical atmosphere.

The lighting now takes into account the average luminance of the environment which results in a better range and overal cleaner looks.

Version 1.0.3 is out

Hello Everyone,

I've been working on improving the visual quality for this release. Everything should look more in line with the environment, be more physically correct and feel a whole lot brighter.

As part of that, I also added a button to load a custom .HDR environment maps next to the standard four, and added a few more 1k CC0 files from the awesome HDRHAVEN site:

I highly suggest that you go there and get some of the higher qualiky ones ( I'm posting a few pictures using their 4k files ) and if you like please support them, they do an excellent job.

Of couse you are free lo load any .HDR file you want as long as it is in lat/lon 2:1 aspect.

The simulated environments have not changed much, but the new lighting should make them more usable, particularly the sunset one.

The UI is now on the far Z plane, or in other words rotated 90 degrees from where it was. This is as a starting point to support other headsets which tend to look in that direction as the default. If you happen to have a Windows headset or an Oculus, please try it out.
