Mervils: A VR Adventure

Update #5: Oculus Touch and native OSVR support

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update, we’ve been working on support for Oculus Touch and the OSVR HDK2 over the past couple weeks and we’ve finally have it ready for you guys!

The Oculus Touch controllers will work the exact same way as the Vive wands do within the game and we’ve designed new “Orbs” to fit the look and feel of the Touch controllers.

We’ve also worked with Razer to get native OSVR support up and running within the game, you’ll now have the option to launch the native OSVR version of the game which will launch the OSVR server directly without the need for any other drivers/software! You can check it out on their official website as well: http://www.osvr.org/featured.html

As always, we’ll keep you posted on new updates to the game!

Happy Holidays,

VitruviusVR Team

The Full Release of Mervils is here!

It’s been an amazing year developing in VR and we’re very excited to get the full version of Mervils out to you guys!

The full game includes 13 levels with approximately 6-8 hours of gameplay including the final battle against your main enemy “Balazar The Evil!” The newest Worlds include the snowy Arctic Isles and tropical Paradise Cove.

The Arctic Isles:

The Arctic world introduces many new game mechanics to Mervils like Ice Skating on Freeze Lake, tobogganing down the Mervil slopes, and casting ice spells to defeat the great fire that lurks beneath the ice & snow. Balazar has just attacked the Arctic World and has begun to melt their mighty glaciers, it’s up to you to defeat the fiery creatures that lurk below the world and save their Kingdom from being melted away!

The Paradise Cove:

Your adventurer almost has enough strength to take on Balazar The Evil but you’ll need a few more Mervil Pages before going to war. Thousands of years ago, Captain Silverbeard sailed the 12 Mervil Seas with of hundreds of pages of the Great Mervil Book and legend says he buried the treasure on the Island of Antigua. But no Mervil has ever found the great plunder!

With Balazar’s goblins sailing Pirate ships throughout the Mervil seas it will be a difficult journey, but if you can find the Lost Treasure of Antigua you will be able to rebind the great Mervil book and use it’s power to defeat Balazar once and for all!

The tropical world introduces new game mechanics such sailing a pirate ship, firing cannonballs, and riding sharks throughout the underwater Coral Oasis world.

No Mervil has ever had the power to battle Balazar and it’s up to you to defeat him and save your fellow Mervil people! Are you up for the challenge?

With tricky platforming, ballistas, catapults, Minecart adventures, dragons, Pirate Ships and much much more we hope you will have a blast in the full version of Mervils!

Thanks for all your support,

Update #2- Balazar's New Voice!

Hey Guys,

Development is going strong and we're hoping to have the full game completed for you to play in the next few weeks! The Arctic World and Paradise Cove will be included along with the new Dark Isles World where you will meet Balazar himself.

We've been working with an amazing voice actor "StringStorm" to get Balazar's voice perfect for the upcoming levels. We couldn't be more happy with the final result.

Have a listen here:

Update #1- Vive Motion Controller Support

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your support with Mervils over the past week. We appreciate all the feedback on the game thus far!

The #1 piece of feedback we've been getting is to integrate the Vive motion controllers into the game. We've tried this in the past to no success, but you guys gave us some great ideas over the the past week and we've found a control scheme that works amazingly!

Here's how the new controls work:

1. The Wand of Teleportation: Allows you to move your character throughout the worlds and teleport (Blink) to his position at any point in time.

2. The Wand of Power: Allows you to jump, open inventory, interact, attack, and set way points to perform difficult platforming maneuvers.

Setting Waypoints:

The most important addition is the setting of way points. This works the same as the "Blink & Teleport" mechanic in first-person Vive games, but instead you are in a third-person view. (You'll need this for the platforming elements in the game!)

Here's a link to a short video guide as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L611tEBCXmg

Please let us know what you think of the new controls!

Cheers,
Blake & the VitruviusVR Team
