Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale

Metorfall: Bramble Royale Trailer & Steam Page release

I'm excited to announce thath we've launched a trailer and Steam page for Meteorfall: Bramble Royale - the third game in the Meteorfall series and follow-up to Krumit!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2372950/Bramble_Royale_A_Meteorfall_Story/

Bramble Royale plays very differently than Krumit's Tale, but - like Krumit's Tale - is a fresh take on deckbuilders. It also features many of your favorite characters (and plenty of new ones!)

In Bramble Royale, you'll build your team of 3 heroes and take to the arena to dominate your opponents. And of course, you'll be playing cards to do so.

Between battles, you'll rest in Bramble Town, where you'll have an opportunity to improve your brawlers and build your deck.

Once you're finished in Bramble Town, it's back to the arena, where you'll fight your next opponent. You'll need tactics and strategy to become the champion of the Bramble Roytale!

February Content Update

The February update has arrived - apologies for cutting it a bit close! My Windows laptop had a battery swelling issue and I wasn't comfortable shipping an update unless I could standy to fix any Windows issues that came up. The good news is that I'm back online now!

This update features a new enemy that will show up in the final dungeon - Cococat! Cococat was one of the deadliest and most hated enemies in the original Meteorfall: Journeys game. In Krumit's Tale, in addition to having deadly quick and piercing attacks, Cococat also punishes you on the board by causing tiles in the same row to require health to pick up.

Rounding out the update are a couple new abilities, and a new perk, Magician, that adds a 'Push' action to all of your abilities that target enemies. It can be a difficult perk to make use of, but can be used to inflict more damage with burn as Greybeard, help trigger traps as Varfa, or isolate enemies as Mischief.

NEW

New Enemy: Cococat
"Acquiring a tile in the same row costs 2 health"

New Ability: Humility (Rose), 0 cost
"Instant. Restore 8 health and Repent. Can only be acquired if you have 0 gold

New Ability: Trick Shot (Varfa), 2 cost
"Deal 8 piercing damage, split among enemies in the same row. Exhaust"

New Perk: Magician (Greybeard, Mischief, Varfa)
"When you target an enemy with an item or ability, also Push them"

BUG FIXES
- #1617: Removed Stout from the Endless mutation
- #1641: The cost of Frenzy no longer shows up as '99'
- #1643: Battle Song now requires that there's a visible weapon
- #1645: Damage dealt by Healing Trap now works properly with Mark
- #XXXX: Arcanist no longer triggers when removing Curse tiles (including Megaton)
- #XXXX: Fix a bug where block was not removed for some enemies, after defeating a hero's minions

The January Content Update

The January Content Update

We're back from holiday and have some exciting new updates for Krumit's Tale!

Krumit can now speak Chinese!

We partnered with out publisher, Indienova, to add a world class Chinese localization of all Krumit's lines! After listening to Krumit in English for the past couple years, it was a bit surreal (and awesome!) to hear him speak Chinese. You can check out the Chinese VO in-game by language in-game to Simplfied Chinese.

NG+9 Now Available

Some of the most skilled players have blazed through New Game+8 and have been asking for a new challenge. This update introduces NG+9, which adds an additional modifier. The final NG+ level, NG+10, will be added in a future update.

We've also rebalanced the earlier NG+ levels which add curses. Those NG+ levels will add curses to your deck in the 2nd and 3rd dungeon respectively, to make the first dungeon less punishing due to bad RNG.

New Tiles

We're also adding 4 brand new tiles to the game

New Weapon: Snowpiercer (Greybeard): 1 cost, 2 durability, 3 damage
“Piercing when attacking Frozen opponents”

New Trap: Healing Trap (Varfa, Muldorf)
"Pay 2 gold to arm this trap. Trigger: Deal 6 piercing damage split between enemies in the same row, and restore 6 health split between you and your minions"

New Armor: Widow's Grasp (Bruno, Muldorf): 3 cost, 3 durability, 4 block
“When you parry, add a copy of Spider Bite to your inventory”

New Ability: Kick (Mischief) 1 gold
"Deal 8 damage to an enemy and push them. Can't be used in battle. Exhaust"

Balance Changes & Full Patch Notes

We've also added some balance changes and reworks for some underused (or hard to use) tiles. Please see all the changes in the full patch notes below. We hope you enjoy the update!

Holiday Content Update

Hi folks! We're back with another content update to celebrate the holidays!

New Mutation: Endless

In this new mutation, you fight through a single dungeon, surviving as long as you can. As you defeat more and more enemies, stronger enemies will begin to spawn. 'Gift' tiles will also spawn, allowing you to draft a perk mid-dungeon. How long can you survive before you're overwhelmed by a board full of bosses?

New items: Wishing Lamp & Frost Trap

We're also adding two brand new items!

Frost Trap

Varfa, Greybeard
Pay 1 coin to arm this trap. Trigger: Apply freeze to enemies in the same row

Wishing Lamp

Neutral
Choose: Gain 1 coin, restore 3 health, or restore 1 durability to a random item in your inventory

New perk: Battlemage

Battlemage

Greybeard

We hope you enjoy this brand new content update, and have a safe & warm holiday season!

November Content Update

With Varfa out, the team has been focused on expanding out Krumit's Tale with free content update. The first update we have adds the following new features:

New Mutation: Baron

In this Mutation, you start out with the Privileged and Greedy perks, and gold carries over between dungeons. You'll amass a huge fortune of gold - but achieving the top score will require careful management of your resources.

Baron can be accessed when starting a new run in the Mutation menu, and will occasionally show up during the daily challenge.

New Perks: Bandit and Fencer

We're also adding two new perks:

Fencer

(Bruno, Rose)
When you parry an attack, restore 2 health

Bandit

(All heroes)
Your attack is increased by 1 against solitary enemies but your deck size is decreased by 1

New tile: Liquid Armor

We're also adding a new potion / item called Liquid Armor

Liquid Armor

(All heroes)
Use to gain 3 block this round in combat

Stay tuned!

We're already hard at work on some new items and a new Mutation for December. We hope you enjoy this new update, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Varfa DLC - Now Available!

Hi folks! Super excited to announce new DLC for Krumit's Tale is now available! I'm rerunning a post from earlier about some details of what the DLC includes, along with some FAQ - check it out!

____________________________

We're excited to announce new DLC for Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale! This new DLC adds a brand new hero: Varfa the Ranger & her loyal companion, Orhu. Includes are more than 50 new items & abilities, several new perks, and a bunch of brand new gameplay mechanics.

Your Loyal Companion

With Varfa, we wanted to introduce a new type of minion to better reflect the unique capabilities of Orhu. Orhu works similarly to Muldorf's skeletal minions, but also has his own set of abilities. You can pay gold to unlock 3 tiers of abilities for Orhu.

All of Orhu's abilities recharge after a certain number of rounds of combat. Depending on your playstyle and the deck you're building, you might choose to unlock different abilities for Orhu. For instance, some of Orhu's abilities add extra damage; others stun or block.

Traps

Traps are a type of new tile in the Varfa DLC update. Traps are items that stay on the board, but can be 'armed' by paying their gold cost. Armed traps can later be triggered if enemies move into the same row as the trap (or if the trap is dropped down into the same row as an enemy)

Using traps effectively requires you to master ways to manipulate the position of tiles on the board, leading to a very unique and interesting playstyle when investing heavily into traps. You can also make use of a new keyword 'Push' to push enemy tiles up on the board and trigger traps that way.

Hunt your Enemies

In the Varfa update, you'll be able to 'Mark' your enemies using a variety of new items and abilities.

Marked enemies take additional damage from 'out of combat' abilities, such as Varfa's Quickshot or the Hunting Rifle. Compared to melee oriented heroes like Bruno and Mischief, Varfa excels at dealing damage outside of battle with ranged weapons and abilities. Marking your enemies gives your ranged arsenal a bit of extra power.

FAQ

When will the DLC release?
October 21

How much will the DLC cost?
The DLC will cost $1.99 USD (may be adjusted depending on your local currency)

What about Daily Challenges?
All players will have access to Varfa when she appears during a daily challenge, regardless of whether they own the DLC or not. It's a great chance to try her out if you're on the fence about buying the DLC!

What about the Epic Edition of the game?
We'll also be adding the Varfa DLC retroactively for all owners of the Krumit's Tale Epic edition (which currently just includes the sound track). Thank you for your support!

Answer the Call!

Besides the Varfa DLC, we're continuing to work on free updates as well - new items, abilities, perks and mutations. Keep an eye out for more about this soon.

Beware the Reaper's Curse!

We've prepared our spookiest update yet and are introducing a brand new Mutation mode called "Reaper's Curse"!

It's available immediately for all players and can be accessed when you start a new 'Mutation Mode' game. It'll also come up periodically during the daily challenge, including an extra spooky challenge on Halloween (Oct 31) where the Reaper's Curse is guaranteed to show up.

How does it work?

Fight monsters and acquire items & abilities as normals. At some point, stairs to the next floor will be revealed and you can proceed up to the next level - or, you can stick around on the floor for a bit, acquiring tiles or fighting enemies. However, once the stairs are revealed, copies of Reaper's Curse are shuffled into the deck. While on the board, your max health is reduced for each copy; however, you'll also be awarded more points. It's dangerous to keep them around, but it's also how to achieve the highest score.

As you ascend 7 floors to the top of the Haunted Spire to face the Ghost King, you'll face more and more difficult enemies. Hopefully you're well prepared with items and abilities to face the Ghost King when he appears on the top of the 7th floor!

It only takes 10 minutes to finish a complete round of Reaper's Curse, so it's great if you're looking for a quicker game mode.

We hope you enjoy this new content, and stay tuned for the Varfa DLC coming later this month, with additional free content coming after that!

[BETA] Rose Perk Rework + New Tiles

These changes are out today on the beta branch so that we can test them out, and will be on the default branch in the coming weeks.

Rose's Starting Perk

Rose's starting perk, which converts visible curses on the board into blessings, has proven more difficult than expected to use. While we feel good about her Queen of Shadow perk (corrupt enemies you attack), Rose 'Chosen' perk doesn't feel very impactful.

In this update, we're reworking Rose's Chosen perk to read:

When you remove or transform a visible curse, deal 2 piercing damage to enemies in the same row

Effectively, the playing as Queen creates a bunch of dangerous waste (curses) on the board and it's up to Rose to clean it up. Removing a curse can be done through removing the curse (by paying the health cost) or by using any other card that transforms or removes curses (such as Demonic Chest or Kiki's Bow)

New Keyword: Repent

Another way to remove curses is with the Repent keyword, which is new in this update and featured on two of Rose's tiles.

Repent: If a curse is present on the board, trigger this tile's effect. Then, convert the curse into a blessing

Two of Rose's new tiles feature the keyword Repent. To use these tiles effectively (or to get more out of them), you need to have curses on board to use as resources.

New Items and Abilities

Holy Symbol

Deal 2 piercing damage to visible enemies. Repent: Repeat this effect

This item deals up to 4 damage to all visible enemies, if you have a curse on board. If you play your cards right, you can deal 2 extra damage to one of the rows, because Repent trigger's Chosen as well, since it removes a curse

Vigilance

Repent: Gain 3 block this round (while in battle)

This item allows you to convert curses on the board into useful block. This triggers Rose's new Chosen perk and also helps convert curses into more useful blessings

Judgmental Blade

When you acquire this, shuffle 5 curses into the deck. Depleted: Gain 1 gold for each visible curse

This item helps generate lots of curses for Rose to use with her reworked perk and is a powerful new weapon in its own right

New Perks

We're also adding two new perks!

Peaceful

(Neutral)
When you deplete a weapon, restore 4 health

Pure

(Rose)
When mutate into Chosen, convert visible curses into blessings

Let us know what you think!

The changes to Rose's starting perk were largely driven by player feedback about Chosen not feeling very impactful. Let us know on Steam, Discord, Twitter or wherever to let us know how you like these changes!
