Midnight Renegade

Midnight Renegade: Recollections Coming June 3rd.

It's been two years, and I've been working on a massive update for Midnight Renegade. That update turned out to be fundamentally the same as the previous release, but changed so much of the world. It became a different experience, so I decided to release it as it's own project.

Here are the upgrades from the old game that will be in the new release.
- new background art
- redesigned enemies and bosses
- new levels with new tilesets
- new items
- status effects
- weapon upgrades
- diverse character builds
- teleporting between levels
- cutscenes
- pixel perfect camera option
- less sluggish movement

The game will be $1.99, so I hope it lives up to its price. Please consider giving it a try when it releases, thank you.

Headhunter Update

It has been a while since the last update. Many changes have been made.

DISCLAIMER:
Updates have been made to the save data script, meaning previous saves will be no longer accessible. Fortunately, the game is relatively short. I apologize for this inconvenience. I will prevent this from happening in the future.

UPDATES:
- Localization has been nearly completed for the Portuguese version. That will be the only translated version for now. A credits sequence has been developed to credit the translator (@rainermeza) and the creator of the dogica pixel font (@AVReference). They were both great to work with, and I would recommend their services and assets to other developers.

- A difficulty setting has been installed. You may choose to play casually or in hardcore mode.

- The tutorial has been brushed up a bit to cover more aspects of the game.

- Hud display has been improved. Icons appear more detailed, and all of which have matching pixel sizes.

- Background layers appear more detailed, where the size of pixels in them match that of world objects, and even hud objects.

- Hud display will adjust itself to match different resolutions.

- The thug and the dancer unit have been redrawn to achieve pixel perfect sizing, yet still appear large.

- Combat has been slightly enhanced. Achieving a strike to the head of an enemy will grant a critical bonus. Putting enough damage into an enemy will stagger them, and attacking a staggered enemy will automatically grant a critical bonus.

- The fashionable man has received a polishing up, and even yields interesting effects when attacked.

- The Chief Burkley boss's ultimate ability has been enhanced, creating explosions that will follow the player.

- Critical healing has been implemented. Seek the gangster's gear to specialize in such a trait.

Inventory Update

A few updates toward the general quality of the game have been made.

- The inventory has been divided into three separate inventories organized by gear, consumables, and ammo. Each inventory has 16 slots. The inventory view consists of a scroll bar to select slots that would otherwise go off screen, and three tabs to select each separate inventory to view. This update has made the need for locking slots obsolete, so the ability to lock slots has been removed.

- Default settings are set to half brightness, sound, and music, where in the past they were set to a third. This will not affect users that have played the game already.

- Player animations can now be interrupted, giving the game a faster-paced feel.

- Gun stats have been moved from ammunition to the guns themselves.

- The musket rifle's damage has been reduced from 88 to 77, and its critical multiplier has been reduced from 2 - 1.4. All other guns have had their critical multipliers reduced from 2 - 1.3.

- Bosses drop 3 musket balls, instead of 4, when staggered.

- The speed of the musket rifle firing animation has been slightly reduced.

- The tutorial got a sprinkle of additional information to accommodate the update in the inventory, also covering some things that should have been covered in the past.

- The size of dialogue text and inventory stat/description text has been increased. Inventory icons have also increased in size.

- The gun dealer no longer gives the player 6 flintlock bullets and a flintlock pistol as a reward for defeating the Fire Weaver. Instead, he drops a bread loaf, and the maximum amount of every ammo type in game.

- The lighting on the Fire Weaver's flame thrower has been slightly improved, so it seems a bit less concentrated.

- The audio for the songs have been leveled to match each other.

Thank you to the users of this game for giving your feedback to make it a better experience.

Release!

Midnight Renegade has released today. I had no idea that a whole 76 users had added it to their wishlists! I have high hopes for this title. I worked hard to make the gameplay feel as smooth and clean as possible. And just weeks before, I managed to make some monumental improvements toward gameplay. Ranged combat has been brought to greater light, and the item descriptions got a little polishing up, giving some backstory on the 'actors' that play each character.

If you enjoy your experience with this game, writing a review would help it out a ton. Pointing out any bugs you encounter will also greatly improve it. Thank you.
