It's been nearly a month since the last beta update, but we are still alive and still working on getting this Beta finished! This update adds a significant new feature to the Course Creator and we hope you guys will have fun with it!
Course Creator
Terraforming - You can now edit the terrain of your course! Start editing by clicking the Edit Terrain button in the Course Management window or in the Environment section of the Course Info window. Hold Left-Click to raise the terrain or paint a texture, hold Shift + Left-Click to lower the terrain.
Green points and edges are now visible and can be selected through other objects.
Added Camera Light feature to illuminate dark environments while editing.
Streetlight and the light crystal now have editable properties to control the intensity and range of the light.
Default environment now has terrain.
Fixed issue where the windmill rotation was not framerate-independent.
Taken from Crazymonkay's "Testing Course", available on the Workshop.
It feels like it has been a long time since the last update. We are still working hard to provide new and exciting updates as best we can.
Multiplayer
Improved UI when joining and launching a game.
Changed font in some places to be more readable.
Course Creator
Added more objects in the Low-Poly style.
Object list is now categorized, and individual sections can be collapsed and expanded.
Hole Preview images are now automatically uploaded to the Steam Workshop when you publish your course.
The Windmill and Pinball Bumpers now have modifiable Speed and Power properties available via the right-click context menu.
Fixed some objects facing the wrong way in object thumbnails.
Plans
In addition to the change notes, we would like to take a moment to list some of the things we have planned, just to give you guys an idea of what we are planning on working on:
More Content! - Currently our Course Creator does not have a lot of props or environments available to use. We know that having more content is extremely important in realizing the full potential of the Course Creator, and so we will definitely be adding more objects and environments in the future. At the moment we are focusing on functional aspects over content. We plan on adding a very large amount of content once our Beta program ends.
Terraforming - Being able to edit the terrain of the course could introduce a whole new world of possibilities for cool and fun custom courses. We plan on adding the ability to raise and lower the terrain to make hills and valleys, as well as paint the terrain with different materials like grass, sand, rock, etc.
Pipes - Our Arcade course features pipes which effectively allow the ball to teleport to different places on the hole. We want to add these to custom courses too.
Scripts and Editable Properties - In this update we implemented the first steps of a basic scripting and editable properties system. We want to expand this to allow users to add scripts to any object or green they want, allowing for more dynamic holes.
Apologies for being late for this Beta release, there were some issues we wanted to iron out before the release.
Before we detail what has changed, we would like to thank everyone who has been uploading their custom courses to the Steam Workshop. It is really cool to see what you guys have made!
We also now have a Course Creator Guide available that gives an overview of all of the Course Creator's features.
Now, on to the changes:
Gameplay
Updates to UI.
Fixed some issues with controller navigation in some menus.
You no longer have to exit the game for subscribed items to be downloaded (however there is currently no visual indication of the download progress).
Changed layout of the Whole Course select menu.
Added new sounds for going out-of-bounds and getting above par.
Fixed power up particles not disappearing when a power up was picked up.
Fixed camera clipping into some objects.
Course Creator
Fixed black textures on some walls.
Added height indication lines to selected objects.
Updates to UI.
Hole previews are now 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 3:2.
Inside walls are now removed if they are underneath the edge of 2 adjacent greens. This was causing an "invisible walls" issue.
Banner images should now (preferably) be square.
Added ability to automatically generate a banner image.
Greens are now forced to stay above the grid base.
Camera position, transform options, and selected hole are now all saved and restored when the course is opened.
Arrow no longer is shown in tee style thumbnail.
Fixed greens not being joined properly when playing a custom course.
Renamed Merge Greens to Join Greens.
Renamed Custom Prefabs to Prefab Blueprints.
Actions using Advanced Transform now undo and redo properly.
Positions of objects and green points are now rounded to help with slightly misaligned greens.
As you can see from the headline, the big announcement this week is that Steam Workshop support is now available for Beta users!
You can publish your courses via the Publish Course to Workshop button now available in the Course Creator, and you can subscribe to items via the Steam Workshop interface.
Note: Currently you must restart the game in order to see any new custom courses you have subscribed to
Other changes are as follows:
Multiplayer
Course selection lists are now categorized based on the course type (Standard, Workshop, or Local)
Background music now crossfades smoothly between levels.
Fixed some graphics options not working (Antialiasing, SSAO, Bloom, Lens Aberrations, Color Correction, HDR)
Course Creator
Improved hole preview creation.
Fixed issue where handles from deleted greens would reappear after going into practice mode.
Small update for this week. We are continuing to work on the new Pirate Course as well as improve behind-the-scenes functionality. As we near completion of the Beta, there will probably be a time where we will stop biweekly updates as we prepare for the final release. We think this time is approaching, so stay tuned!
Multiplayer
Added camera snap points to pipe exits and entrances to combat the camera clipping through the level.
Fixed power-ups not showing correctly for clients.
We just wanted to let you guys know that we will be releasing our Beta updates on a biweekly basis (i.e. every two weeks), rather than a weekly basis, from now on.
We hope that with this new schedule our updates will have a bit more substance, especially since we have put some of our resources towards working on the Pirate Course, which we can't really provide weekly updates for :P.
This week's update is small and contains some multiplayer bug fixes. We have begun re-focusing our attention on the new Pirate course, which means we will not be releasing major Course Creator updates for the time being.
Multiplayer
Fixed incorrect physics when ball bounces out of bounds, ball now rolls and bounces correctly
Fixed glitchy camera and ball at the beginning of a hole for clients
Fixed bug where player could begin a turn out of bounds
Fixed pipe exit sound effect not playing for clients
