Balance and quality of life improvements

Here's a list of all the changes.

Bigger changes:
- most healing skills now remove negative status effects
- every time you pick up a never before seen item it will be shown as new in the inventory until you examine it (upon loading an old save all items will be shown as new)

Balance:
- leveling up removes most negative status effects
- nightmares are less likely to happen
- friendly bite removes some poisons
- changed some item prices
- mint gum now removes most negative status effects
- added mint gum to some shops
- changed chillaxitve so it prevents anxiety and others for 10 turns
- removed A BUNCH of late game enemies

New features and fixes:
- certain NPCs have reworked text reflected by the new update
- instead of having to press a specific key at the start of battle to view a list of all negative status effects there is now a command you can select at the start of battle (before selecting the command to fight) to view the list
- you may also view the list from the stats screen
- how much EXP needed to next level is now immediatley shown upon entering the menu
- grammar fixes
- pink mushroom no longer edable after you've done the tutorial
- toxic kid can no longer cause intoxication
- prevented the use of souls on party members that don't gain EXP
- scorched plains now has a map
- minor bug fixes
- if jean&jackie dead then final spike puzzles inactive
- when you have sailors you no longer have random encounters
- if you skipped the tutorial the red baloons are now removed
- fixed key bindings in lagfree

Changes that may contain spoilers:
- executioner now gives executioners blade as first reward
- guards no longer spawn in party palace after war
- detox now heals puppet

Achievement fix

Achievements should now work again. If anyone encounters any other bugs feel free to report them in the steam discussions for bug reporting.

NOTE: Achievements only work on the main windows branch they do not work for mac or the lag free beta branch.

Beauty Update

The major changes in this update are:

  • remade every single battle sprite, giving them a more consistent and detailed art sytle
  • remade some overworld sprites
  • redesigned almost all bosses and even some enemies
  • totally reworked the tutorial
  • removed windshell and added a new help option in the menu
  • rebalanced New Game+


Other changes include:

  • made Bucket's nightmare more obvious
  • rewritten even more dialogue and removed some npcs
  • removed earthworms
  • certain areas now have more vibrant colors
  • sleeping gray needs only one clown horn
  • renamed big snail
  • fixed tent softlock
  • fixed some grammar mistakes
  • fixed jesters talk animation after cutscene
  • made ship floor and the ash docks darker
  • changed knights dialogue after certain event
  • half no longer has a "dark voice"
  • angelic greed + divine no longer last forever
  • removed the viewing pole mountain scene
  • added guy talking about page up page down to ash village
  • Nightmare Fuel no longer does anything
  • Added Abyssal Shard, Nightmare Fuel, Vultures Feathers and Gold Ingot to key items.
  • Added 3% chance of magic causing nightmare
  • removed the man eater plant
  • added another entrance to hazard land
  • added a few teleports to skip sections that have already been completed


Changes in New Game+:


    <*> less glitched enemies
    <*> removed all fake plc
    <*> removed some fake baloons
    <*> giant snail doesnt need white mushrooms hes already angry
    <*> reworked the way glitched enemies work
    <*> shower monster deals exactly barely not enough to kill you if you're level 2 giving you chance to escape
    <*> changed some of halfs dialogue

Misery Street Version 2.0

The main focus of this update was to redesign the overworld graphics and some monsters too. The new screenshots and trailer show off the redesigns on the store page.
Since it's such a drastic change to the game I've labeled this update as Version 2.0.

Other changes include:

  • bug fixes
  • grammar fixes
  • rewritten some NPC dialogues, specifically in Safe Place
  • made 1st snake encounter more obvious
  • updated credits
  • added new help text in the equipment window
  • added cutscene skip and speedrun action log speed to options instead of skipboy
  • spiders den map is more obvious now

Update #4: rebalancing, auto-saving and more

The major features added in this update are:

  • removed quicksaving, the game now auto-saves instead on two separate slots: after every battle and map transition
  • rebalanced many mid and late-game enemies
  • buffed buckets and slightly emo
  • added the ability to change equipment during combat

The game should now be more accessible to people not so familiar with RPGs while retaining the key parts that give the experience just the right amount of challenge.



A more thorough changelog:

General changes:

  • added autosave
  • added version number
  • added the ability to change equipment during combat
  • changed controls a bit (it is now possible to play with controller)
  • bug fixes
  • fixed game not starting for some
  • improved performance
  • grammar fixes
  • added the feature to see a list of statuses during battle by pressing the W key before selecting the option to fight every turn
  • if you press Q before choosing to fight in combat you can assign everyone to do a normal attack on the first enemy, needs more testing tho
  • mac and lagfree: action log fixed, it can now be viewed


Character changes:

  • removed glarg having a chance to eat the whole party while resting
  • glarg starts at level 7
  • changed skill costs of all bucket's skills
  • changed at what level buckets learns most of his skills
  • buckets no longer learns freeze
  • added unique icons for magify and magical storm
  • buckets no longer focuses with a skill but with a new starting weapon (changed all wands, staff, and orbs, removed buckets saying he's not good at physical combat behind bar)
  • changed emo's counter (it can now be activated anytime but it costs 15 AP every time it triggers, also it persists between combat like emotions)
  • tantrum and tearblast -5AP cost


Enemy changes:

  • rebalanced the stats of some mid and most late-game enemies, didn't change any of the bosses
  • change the AI of some enemies
  • renamed Hobo Grey and Beggar to fit their character better


Item changes:

  • white candy and potato juice cost +1PLC
  • mystical staff costs +100PLC
  • blue orb gives the ability to freeze
  • added blue orb and wooden wand to scorched plains collector
  • magenta orb costs -100PLC
  • angels blessing is now a one-time use item like ambrosia
  • changed laser visor
  • added wooden wand to captains servant but it costs 75 there
  • changed cosmic dissonance
  • essence of darkness now goes onto the body


State changes:

  • if emo anxious he can't counterattack
  • frozen always lasts only 2 turns


World changes:

  • added some advice dialogue to the captain on how to save 2 of the crew without having to fight any monsters in case the player is underleveled when they reach the ship
  • if you open a later sewer and the previous one was unopened the previous one gets opened as well
  • toxic sewer is always open from both sides
  • shower sound effect happens faster
  • little misery gives rewards to skilled adventurers
  • changed pleasant valley's rain

Update #3: Bugfixes + new LagFree beta branch


  • corrected more grammar mistakes
  • changed the battle victory sound
  • added new paintings to party palace
  • removed the message that appears when you pick up potatoes after the first ones you pick
  • fixed a crash in the toxic sewers
  • some other minor fixes
  • mac: music no longer restarts after every battle


NEW LagFree beta branch!

Added a new beta branch that should decrease lag for those who are experiencing a lot of it. See the Lagfree beta branch discussions thread for more information.

Update #2

- corrected a bunch of gramar mistakes
- removed optimize button from equipment screen since it wasn't really optimizing equipment
- reajusted some enemy status resistances
- fixed crash after you die 2 times in the tutorial
- poison/snowy snail give you green mushroom/cherry bomb if you don't have one during battle
- added f6 explanation to title screen
- mac: screen is no longer blurry
- mac: fixed wierd font scaling in skill menus
- fixed alien's B key
- other minor adjustments
