Hello everyone and a belated Happy 2023! It’s normally around this time that we would write a recap of the previous year’s endeavors, and believe me, there were a lot: returning to real-world events, becoming a Twitch Affiliate, and for Mondrian's sequel, Plastic Reality, introducing new game modes, publishing its Free Admission demo, you name it, we did it. But that is not why I’m here today. I am here to talk about pricing.
You have likely seen a lot of news lately about Steam prices being readjusted to match exchange rates, and yes, we will be doing the same, but also striving to be as fair as possible about it. With that in mind, we thought we would give you a heads-up as to the incoming changes.
For both Mondrian – Abstraction in Beauty and Mondrian – Plastic Reality, we will be equalizing prices on Steam across all territories on March 1. Why are we doing this? Well, put simply, the disparity between currencies, as it stands, is staggering. While Plastic Reality is $14.99 USD, it can be purchased for half that amount or less in nearly half of all territories, and also ABOVE retail price in a couple others. For the sake of customers in all territories, we felt it was necessary to balance the pricing across the board. However, before these changes take effect, BOTH GAMES WILL BE ON SALE between February 20 and 27, 34% off for Plastic Reality and 51% off for Abstraction in Beauty. This will put Plastic Reality under $10 for the first time ever! If you have had the games on your Wishlist for a while, make sure to do so now so you don’t miss the upcoming sale. Don't forget that if you already own Abstraction in Beauty, you can upgrade via the Series Bundle for another 30% off.
We realize that even with the discount, the game or bundle may still be too expensive for some. If that is the case, we encourage you to download the Free Admission demo of Plastic Reality to check out what the sequel has to offer and start getting involved in our welcoming, creative community. We keep the demo up to date too so you will never fall behind on bug fixes or new features!
Some news about the next major update – or “Movement” – for Mondrian – Plastic Reality will be coming pretty soon. We are attempting to tackle some long-requested changes, so it may take a little while. Stay tuned for that. In the meantime, thank you for your understanding, continued support, and as always, for playing. Here’s to a big 2023!

Mondrian - Plastic Reality Demo Released!
Hello Abstraction in Beauty fans! Danny here. I know it's been a while, but I wanted to let you know that the demo for the game's sequel, Plastic Reality, is now live for the Steam Summer Festival! The game keeps everything you knew and loved from the first one, but adds a lot on top like five playable characters, new game modes, plenty of new art, and the Mondrian Maker level editor, with Workshop compatibility! That's right, you can now make your own Mondrian levels, even for the demo, and they will work when the game launches in September.
Please check the game out and let us know what you think!
Wishlist Mondrian - Plastic Reality on Steam Today!
Hi everybody! I've got some exciting news for you today. Mondrian's sequel, Plastic Reality, is now live on Steam and ready to be Wishlisted! We are aiming for a release later this year, and we're really excited to show you what we've been cooking up.
So you may be wondering, what's so new in this game? It looks pretty much the same! Well, on the surface, you're correct. We've worked hard to perfect the formula we created in Abstraction in Beauty, but under the hood there's so much more going on. It all starts with Mondrian Maker, the game's simple but powerful level editor. Using Mondrian Maker, you can create your own levels in mere seconds, and share them with your friends! We'll be implementing Steam Workshop functionality not just for levels, but also other modifiable content, like background paintings, and even mods themselves. We can't wait to see what you come up with!
Next, the game itself. There are now five playable characters, each of whom control slightly differently thanks to an improved paddle acceleration system. A new backend "Color Wheel" creates some striking visual results without relying on expensive shaders or alternate versions of assets. In fact, the entire game has been so optimized thanks to smarter coding & an upgrade into Clickteam Fusion 2.5+, that it now only needs ~80mb of RAM to run (for comparison, Abstraction in Beauty needs about 1Gb). We've also introduced loads of new elements like other Obstacles, stackable block Modifiers, and deeper gameplay uses for Gems.
We're really excited about the way this game is coming out. It builds on the foundation we created back in 2015 and takes it to the stars. We still have loads of work to do for the rest of the year, but everything we're building is turning the game into a highly creative experience.
But don't think for one minute that we're going to forget you, the OG fans. There will absolutely be a bundle price, so if you already own Abstraction in Beauty, you'll get Plastic Reality discounted right from the get-go. It's the least we can do!
We hope you'll support us by Wishlisting the game here on Steam. It only takes a second, and will go a long way toward helping us build the game's community and bringing you an even more exciting product come launch!

Thank you all so much, thank you for playing, and enjoy the Summer Sale!

Help Us bring Mondrian - Plastic Reality to PlayNYC!
Hi all! I know it's been a little while, but today we're bringing you a very important announcement:
We've Been Invited to PlayNYC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NDxq_wI2Po
Our friends at Playcrafting have invited us to bring the Mondrian sequel, Plastic Reality, to their PlayNYC event in August (11th and 12th). This event is looking to bring together gamers, developers, and streamers from all across the tri-state area and beyond. It's a great opportunity for us to show off the new game and the Mondrian Maker level editor to a huge audience. However, between booking the space, travel, and marketing opportunities, it's not going to be cheap to attend.
So, we have updated our Support Us page with a new campaign. If we can raise about $1500, we'll be able to bring Mondrian - Plastic Reality to the show! And, if we raise more than that, we have stretch goals to make an even bigger splash.
We exhibited Plastic Reality at PAX East in April, and it went extremely well! But, with so much more built into the game in jut the last two months - like new block types, analogous color schemes, and many new levels - we're itching to bring it in front of a big crowd again. PlayNYC is our chance to do just that, and with your help, we can be there!
https://youtu.be/fV6Ksq9OG94
How You Can Help
There are several ways you can help out. First and foremost, visit our Support Us page where you can learn more about the campaign, pick up a copy of Mondrian - Plastic Reality (or a t-shirt/coffee mug/what-have-you). If you can't donate or buy anything right now, we understand, but would greatly appreciate it if you helped spread the word on social media!
Finally, there's one last fun thing you can do: meme. We've made some blank memes with Mondrian's cast of characters that you can use to help spread the word! Feel free to download these and use the meme machine of your choice. Then use the hashtag #makeamondrian with them, or post them up here, and we'll share our favorites!
(more of these will be on the way soon, with different character poses and background art)
Don't Forget the New Game!
We're on the verge of updating Mondrian - Plastic Reality to EX4.0, and we think you're really going to like it! Yes, it will be here on Steam at some point, but for now you can visit http://lantanagames.com/mondrian-plastic-reality/ to learn more about what we're up to with it and where you can get it to start building your own levels (and mods) for the game right now. Yes, it's moddable! We're doing everything we can to bring the game as close to being a "My First Modkit" as possible, so if you've ever wanted to get into level design or modding, this is the game for you.
Thank you all for your support, as always. Hope to see you in New York!

Surprise Update! Mondrian - Plastic Reality on itch.io
Hi everyone. I know it's been a long, long while since the last update, and yet here we are. This is an especially exciting update because we have big news. And what is that news?
That's right. We are bringing you a new Mondrian game in 2018! Mondrian - Plastic Reality takes what we established in Abstraction in Beauty and cranks it to 11. Firstly, every bit of art has gotten a MAJOR coat of spitshine, smoothing everything out with an extra, minor layer of baked-in antialiasing to help the overall look. Effects animations have also gotten an overhaul, as well as the powerup icons. There are five playable characters, each with their own, distinct feel thanks to the inclusion of Top Speed, Acceleration, and Braking stats. 99% of game modes & content return from AiB (some minor mechanics may end up getting cut by the end), with tons of brand new levels, and exciting new mechanics like ball types & modifiers (think new kinds of obstacles and ways to vary up ANY kind of block). If you enjoyed Abstraction in Beauty, you're going to love Plastic Reality.
But the most important feature of all? Mondrian Maker. You asked for it, you got it. This level editor not only lets you plop blocks down anywhere you'd like in the field-of-play, but for the first time ever, you can rotate/scale any block, use MULTIPLE block shapes per level, and individually set block types & modifiers for each block PER DIFFICULTY. We've rebuilt every level from Abstraction in Beauty using Mondrian Maker, and are currently in the process of building out new content for Plastic Reality using the level editor's features to the fullest. Plenty more features will be added in the coming months, including a Campaign builder, improved filetypes, more block types/modifiers, and a whole lot more.
Now, here's the good news. Mondrian - Plastic Reality is available for you to test out right now, including Mondrian Maker! It is $14.99 USD, only at itch.io (for now). However, if you happen to have an itch key for Abstraction in Beauty,, you'll get 30% off! We'll be bringing the same deal to other platforms (like Steam) as we bring the game to them later this year, so if you'd prefer to get in on this deal on Steam, don't worry, we'll have you covered at some point. And yes, we will be including Steam Workshop functionality for you to share your levels (and we're exploring even more options as well, stay tuned!).
https://youtu.be/Eu5VwlPKGlk
We can't wait to show you more Mondrian - Plastic Reality this year, so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, etc. @lantanagames for the fastest updates. If you're a streamer or content creator, you can request a key on our Content Creators page. Also don't forget to check http://lantanagames.com for blog posts (and Children of Liberty fans: we posted our first quarterly update for 2018 up there a few weeks ago, don't miss it!).
As of right now, the game is PC only, however we are improving compatibility across the board to attempt a Mac version. Ideally, we go full PC/Mac/Linux, but we can't fully commit to Linux quite yet. More updates on this as they develop.
Well, that is all for now, friends! Hope you check out the new game and looking forward to playing some of your levels if you do!

Happy Birthday, Mondrian! Price Cut & Version 1.3.1 Available Now
One year ago today, we launched what would become our biggest game to date, but we had no idea just how big. Since then, Mondrian - Abstraction in Beauty has grown beyond anything we imagined when we started the initial prototype, and we
have our fans to thank for helping us turn the game into a truly great product. There is so much new in this anniversary update, including some long overdue fixes, and we think you're going to love what's in store!
To celebrate, we are dropping the price of the game from $6.99 to $4.99, and the Deluxe Edition from $9.99 to $7.99. If you purchased the game here within the last two weeks and have played for under two hours, feel free to refund and
pick it up at the reduced price! If you haven't gotten the game yet, this is a great time to pick up Mondrian - Abstraction in Beauty, all 3 game modes, and now all BILLION+ possible levels! Say it with me now: what. a. bargain.
Happy birthday, Mondrian! Thank you all for an amazing year. Have fun!
Features:
Revamped logo!
One new Hexagon and one new Star level for the Plastic pack
Level Layouts are now determined OUTSIDE of the level, during fades from the Main Menu and Gem Chest! Furthermore, level generation has been split into 3-4 events per layout. This means miniscule improvements on load times, but also much greater stability on load and should reduce the chance of the game crashing or hanging when generating a level
Ball Pause - This new feature pauses the ball for just a few frames when Bombs, Wall Locks, and Wildcards activate, to help alleviate visual confusion
Ball Pause will also trigger when a number of gems (equal to your current difficulty + 2) are present on screen
Further collision detection has been added to the paddle, specifically behind it, to allow the ball to slide past the paddle when the ball ends up between it and the wall
Added a Quit Prompt to Gem Chest screen
Added Difficulty selection to Main Menu after choosing your game type. This was spurred on by not seeing many leaderboard entries in difficulties other than Easy. Hopefully this brings on some new scores!
Local Leaderboards added to Arcade Mode! Now when you submit your score, you'll be prompted to enter 3 initials to save to your Top 10 for the current Difficulty. Your scores will upload to Steam at the same time, if you are connected. Steam Leaderboards will still use your Steam name.
Added Quit Prompt in Gem Chest
Flipped and Monochrome can now be used at the same time!
Added backgrounds to Main Menu and Credits screens
Changes:
Removed Difficulty selection from Gameplay Options menu
Night Mode improvements including redesigned backgrounds and drastically lowering the alpha of the Gem Chest backgrounds
Lowered difficulty of Corestar Easy by removing corner gray blocks
Removed requirement for a controller to be attached in order to make the "Input Type" label say different things in the Options menu
Added clarification on the "Input Type" flavor text
Adjusted size of Gem Paddle side detectors
Added an extra line of collision detection to side detectors
Made some adjustments to Gem Chest menu bar colors
Increased range of brightness on blocks in Monochrome
Backgrounds now flip upside-down in Flipped mode
Bug Fixes:
Fixed Bomb animation sometimes not vanishing after the appropriate amount of time
Fixed a bug where having Checkerbox selected would load Mirrobox levels, and vice versa
Fixed an incorrect label in the museum
Fixed a long outstanding bug where the ball would warp to the front of the paddle when the ball ended up between the wall and the paddle
Fixed a bug where having Monochrome and Flipped activate simultaneously would cause controls to invert
Fixed a bug in the Gem Chest screen where the keyboard or controller could not be used after the mouse had already selected a menu option
Fixed Scoop Paddle's Right Detector being the incorrect height
Fixed a bug where Shuristar may not have been properly selectable in the Options menu
Fixed Octohex requiring the wrong amount of gems to be unlocked in the Boutique
Fixed keyboard/controller presses not working on Restore Data
Fixed Enter Key being finnicky on Main Menu
Fixed controller image not rumbling on Controller Rumble setting
<*> Fixed a missing block in Metabox Relaxing
<*> Fixed the game defaulting to the Monochrome Color Scheme
<*> Fixed Gem Paddle Side Detectors not being tall enough to work
Once again, thank you for playing, and Happy Birthday Mondrian!
Testing Branch Updated - 1.3.1a3
Surprise surprise, it's time for another testing branch update! This time there are actually some pretty significant new features, changes, and bug fixes.
Features
Added a Quit Prompt to Gem Chest screen
Added Difficulty selection to Main Menu after choosing your game type. This was spurred on by not seeing many leaderboard entries in difficulties other than Easy. Hopefully this brings on some new scores!
Added Language options to the Main Menu. If you are interested in helping us localize Mondrian - Abstraction in Beauty, you can find a spreadsheet of entries in Google Drive here. Right now only English is available, but the game is set up to have multiple languages available if we can get some help. You'll receive a Localization credit and a free Mondrian Deluxe Edition game key if you can help us out.
Changes
Lowered difficulty of Corestar Easy by removing corner gray blocks
Removed requirement for a controller to be attached in order to make the Input Type label say different things in the Options menu
Added clarification on the Input Type flavor text
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where having Monochrome and Flipped activate simultaneously would cause controls to invert
Fixed a bug in the Gem Chest screen where the keyboard or controller could not be used after the mouse had already selected a menu option
As usual, if you run into any problems, please let us know! While we could almost call 1.3.1 complete, there's a few bits of content we want to add before we do. Expect the release version of 1.3.1 sometime before the end of September.
