As a solo dev, things can get pretty tough when it comes to testing and fault finding, as well as keeping this looking and feeling good. I have noted all the feedback since the demo release and here is the next update for the demo and as such, will cement the foundation of the full game a little better. Here are some of the issues I have addressed, but could still potentially need some more work:
- Loading and saving bugs and issues. - Updated the sound and music in some areas. - Added quick teleport via shrines. - Added healing wells to the levels. - Reworked some of the character, enemy and boss animations when using spells etc. - Added the ability to click on items to collect them. - Small UI updates. - Addressed certain optimization issues. - Updated the menu settings. - Added the ability to quick save and load with F5 and F6.
These are only some of the updates and improvements. I'm sure I forgot a few already. All in all, I'm hoping it will be a slightly more solid experience. From my side, i will still continue to bring out more updates and content. So do consider following and supporting this journey on Twitter: @DarkFactionZA

Demo update released for NextFest
So i didnt actually get this done in time but better late than never right. I had some factors outside of my control that influenced my dev time. Here are some fixes: - Added tutorial dialogs by talking to the relevant NPC's instead of having random popups in the beginning of the game. I just hope players actually read them! - Updated the graphics, sound and keybinding options but making the settings persistant and added a Vsync option as requested by a player. -Fixed a load game bug where the game loaded into a black screen and loaded a second character. - Updated the UI code slightly and added a button to reset the inventory canvas positions. - Fixed some issues with LOD. - Updated the code that saves and loads the game.
Again, this demo is technically not in beta yet, but I hope everyone is finding some value in this. If you have a few requests that would improve the game in your opinion, feel free to contact or email to info@darkfactiongames.com. Your feedback counts!
Mortal Darkness Demo Released!
Its been more than a year in the development of Mortal Darkness and I would estimate there would probably be another year or 2 before the game is finally finished. But I am pleased to announce that the demo is officially released.
As I say in the description, this game does not reflect the final build and nothing is final in this demo. This game as a whole possibly requires some work and I encourage you to give your feedback in the forums or or our other social media accounts. Content and features could change drastically with each update. This is an alpha demo. Thank you for taking the time to check out this game!
I hope you all find some value in this game. Some positive feedback will only motivate to work harder and ensure that I don't disappoint as a solo dev. As always, thank you for your ongoing support and stay safe!
Development update!
Thanks for dropping in to read this update!
Good news on the development progress so far. Everything is coming along nicely and something noteworthy would be that players can now play Co-op via LAN.
Its a small addition to the game, but I think would make a different to some people. From there, I will officially start working on the campaign and then at a later stage, once I have a few chapters done, revisit the multiplayer and add support for teaming up over the internet. There has also been major improvements to the player and enemy movement and animations as well as enemy AI.
The network development is taking up massive chunks of development time for me, but hopefully I can provide more exciting updates soon!

Steam page is up!
Dark Faction Games is a one man development studio currently working on Mortal Darkness, an action RPG game. I do realize this is actually very early in development though, however, all the core functionality is complete so far along with all the items and skills. There is lots of work left to do though. I would absolutely love it if we could get people that are interested in the game to add it to their Wishlist and track its development on the social media pages. That would be such a motivation to keep working hard.
Feel free to forward any notes or ideas you may have for the Steam page as well as for the game! I am more than happy to give it a read and I would consider any advice received.
