Streaming or recording footage for Mortal Sin? Read this!
Hi there, if you are an influencer looking to record footage for Mortal Sin, please read this for some tips to get the best video quality that will most accurately preserve the look of the game.
YouTube and online video compression in general can be brutal to work around. However, it particular struggles with high contrast color schemes like Mortal Sin, so it's best to do a little bit of testing before uploading videos for the best result. The rule of thumb is that you want your source footage to be as crisp as possible before you upload, and you can easily tell if the text in the game looks blurry or not. If the text is crisp, then its probably good to go!
For video recordings I use the following OBS settings for maximum quality. 100 MBPS bitrate 1440p resolution
Youtube in particular will compress much less with 1440p and over so I'd highly recommend supporting these resolutions for Mortal Sin. If you record good quality source footage though, even 1080p should be respectable.
Low resolution, low bitrate and high compression Result: Blocky, distorted image that is difficult to read even at 1080p
High resolution, high bitrate, low compression Result: Clean, sharp image that is almost exactly how the game looks while playing it. Especially at higher resolutions like 1440p or 4k.
I know what you're thinking. You don't want to use this much hard drive space to record possibly if you are recording a ton of footage. For YouTube, I still think its better to have high quality settings and simply record a shorter video, but for streaming I understand it isn't always feasible so I added some in-game settings to help with compression.
Reducing the color contrast setting will help with compression significantly, but will also make the game look more washed out so I would only recommend it as a last resort. However, the option is there if for some reason you absolutely cannot record high quality footage.
In summary, the best option is to record at high resolution and bitrate, but you may adjust the color contrast slider in the game's visual settings as a last resort as well.
