We have fixed a range of issues from the recent update including bug reports.
Video+Audio sync issue
The video player has been rolled back to a previous version before the audio sync issue started this will fix the problem for now. We plan to completely recode the video player in the future however at the moment higher quality video causes issues with syncing to players.
Lobby
Due to a recent bug report Quickplay has been removed. This feature was causing issues allowing players access to password protected rooms. We dont believe this feature was commonly used as most people used the server browser.
A few font changes
Suburban Home
Doors no longer auto open and close
Doors can now be open and closed by pressing E
Light switches, cabinets, drawers and other items can now be interacted with
The sofa in the living room is now sittable (More chairs soon)
The lighting has been slightly corrected
Graphics
Graphics have been improved making use of features like bloom, Anti-Aliasing, Screen reflection, Ambient Occlusion, Tonemapping and more.
If you find any other bugs or issues just let me know in the forums thanks.
Update 0.4
Update 0.4 is here - New map, bug fixes and more
New Map - Suburban Home:
Please note this is very much a work in progress and the final map will include a full neighbourhood and scenery.
3D Audio:
Audio is now played in its 3D environment and will change based of distance.
Players who now join the game will not hear the video instantly at full volume and instead will only hear the video once entering the videos environment.
Sound effects now added to some objects such as a crackling fireplace and a creeky door etc.
Optimisation:
Occlusion culling has now been added this will hide and not render objects which the camera cant see and will be updated in realtime as the player moves through the scene. This will save system resources instead of keeping a full scene in memory.
Bugs/Fixes:
The intro video on game start can now be skipped instantly by pressing ESC.
The intro video now has its volume reduced to acceptable levels.
Players who leave a game will no longer leave behind their player model in the scene this has now been cleaned.
Players usernames will now float above their head at the correct height
Main Menu:
Added a new trello button to track the games progress
Added an update window to notify of the latest update
Lobby:
Added new map Suburban Home to selectable map list
Added map image previews
Known issues:
These issues are known and we will try our best to get them fixed ASAP
Doors do not sync correctly over network and the 2nd player wont see the first players door open.
Doors will sometimes open too early pushing the player into the world.
Seats are not yet functional in the new map
What to expect in the future?
We have some pretty exciting news we have recently partnered up with Ready Player Me to provide a whole new cross-game avatar creation system usable in the metaverse as your digital identity.
We plan to use this system to allow players to create their own custom player avatar which they can use in game instead of preset avatars. This is something we plan to add in the future along with player animations, dances and emotes. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what we hope to achieve :)
Update 0.3
The next major update for Movie Night is here and im excited to share it with you!
Lighting:
Movie Night now has a completely new light mapper engine (in fact its the same engine they used in Call of Duty: Mobile) this will provide more physically correct baked lighting while supporting modern technologies such as RTX.
Interactive Enviroment:
A new seating system has now been added
Chairs will remember the players last known position
Players can hot swap between chairs without needing to get up and walk to that chair
In game web browser:
Players can now click a provider in the room panel and browse youtube in game using the steam web browser without needing to alt tab for a link
Video Player:
The screen now supports Full HD resolution for all videos (4K is possible in the future but more testing is required)
A screen in the lobby has been added replicating what is being shown in the cinema
Various Edits:
NPC added to lobby desk
Unused props removed from scene
Started work on the new map: Suburban Home
Update 0.16
I have been working on the back-end of the game getting it ready for the next major update. This build includes fixes and back end additions to prepare the game for this next update!
Steam: The game will no longer run without steam and will close if steam is not running.
Steamworks.NET has now been added allowing for communication between Movie Night and steam servers this will allow for future additions like player avatars, names, achievements and more.
Steam DRM has been added to ensure the game is only played on steam and not copied and distributed elsewhere.
Optimisation: I will continue to optimise the game as much as I can as time goes on but these changes should help a good bit.
Lighting has been changed to a hard shadow requiring less processing
Render quality has been tweaked to reduce processing while still keeping the overall quality the same
Made use of Draw call batching requiring less draw calls when rendering meshes
The game will default to the lowest possible render quality to allow for lower end machines to tweak it on first launch.
Main Menu:
Redesigned the environment of the main menu and added an animation sequence. (WIP)
In-Game:
The mouse will no longer randomly lock to the centre of the screen when clicked.
The mouse will now correctly interact with the player and not lock
Improved the overall UI scripting and how the mouse interacts with the environment
For the next update I'm planning on getting seats working and a few other major improvements. Stay Tuned!
Update 0.11 Hotfix
Small urgent hotfix:
Your mouse will no longer lock to the centre of the screen when trying to request a video.
