Moviehouse | Patch #2 | Available Now!
Dear Movie-Fans, The second Patch for Moviehouse is live now, bringing improved readability and other adjustments, as well as some fixes. This is the second patch based on the great feedback we got from lots of you! We are currently in the process of evaluating the next steps and will communicate a plan for further improvements soon.
Changes
Updated UI elements to improve readability on smaller screens
Text sizes should be larger across the game
Increased plot card size in the card deck overview to double the card size
NOTE: It's possible to adjust the UI scale in the settings, while this is an experimental feature and the UI can overlap in places on higher UI scales, it can help with accessibility. With that said, we'll be keeping an eye out on possible accessibility improvements as we go.
Slightly increased complexity requirement for productions
Increased difficulty of gaining profit from low quality movies, the penalty increases depending on production size, with Blockbusters having the highest penalty
Reduced research point gain, previously research point gain increased with higher movie craft & creativity, the upper scale has been adjusted to even out the point gain in the later game
Bug Fixes
Fixed issue where the player was shown matching plot cards as not matching if the player had previously made a movie where the card didn't match
Fixed loan repayment notification, staying even after loan has been repaid
Fixed issue where media types would produce far too much profit given their customer base (Videotape, Video Discs), these distributions should now produce a slight secondary source of profit with the trade of having to use up a distribution slot as intended.
Moviehouse | Patch #1 | Available Now!
Dear Movie-Fans, The first Patch for Moviehouse is live now, bringing performance improvements and Balancing changes, as well as working achievements. This is the first patch based on the great feedback we got from lots of you! We are currently in the process of evaluating the next steps and will communicate a plan for further improvements soon.
Changes & Improvements
Re-balanced the "Self Distribution" buzz requirement. This should make the self-distribution method more worthwhile, even in the early game.
The "Self Distribution" research is now available earlier, and for "Indie" studios, reduced the research cost from 4 to 2 points.
Changed "Any Genre" research name to "New Genre" to add clarity
Increased employee exhaustion gain to make it to balance the need of maintaining your employees' happiness.
Bug Fixes
General performance improvements
Performance should be better in general, but we can't promise a massive increase for everyone, as we're still investigating the reported cases.
Some users with edge cases, where the performance was show-stopping, have reported three to four times improvement.
More performance improvements to follow!
Steam achievements are now rewarded accordingly!
NOTE: While the achievement indicator does appear in the game, it is currently offset. This has more to do with how Steam integrates with the game, we're investigating.
Fixed the same movies being shown in film festivals every year.

About Moviehouse - The Film Studio Tycoon
Starting from humble beginnings, the goal of Moviehouse - The Film Studio Tycoon is to create a film worthy of being shown in every theater across the world. Simple in theory, yet in-depth and challenging in execution. No one becomes a world renowned director overnight, so you’ll need to start with smaller projects and indie films. If successful, you’ll garner more attention, more praise, and most importantly, more money. More money means bigger productions, bigger productions mean more resources, which in turn leads to better movies.
Those that have worked on a major production know one thing: the devil is in the details. So in keeping with that idea, Moviehouse - The Film Studio Tycoon gives you absolute control over every last minute detail of your productions. Any seemingly small detail is yours to tweak to your liking. Budget on casting calls? Adjustable. Background shrubbery? Freely placeable. Early showing placements? Up to your keen eye for planning. The entirety of your set is at your fingertips.

About Moviehouse
Showcased in the new devlog, Moviehouse – The Film Studio Tycoon proves that the devil really is in the details, with the devs showcasing how they went about creating one of the most important yet vastly overlooked pieces of movie magic: the miniature set.
Starting in the 80s where neon and practical effects ruled, and spanning through the decades to the near-real look of current day CGI, players start with a small yet passionate film crew with rudimentary equipment who have one goal: grow the studio into one of the best in the industry and keep it that way for years to come. With an eye for entertainment, pick from a dozen popular film genres and plot the perfect, award-winning storyline. Grow your operation with your razor-sharp business sense and usher in a new era for filmmakers worldwide. You only get one shot to make it or break it, and as they say: if you film it, they will come!

Moviehouse - Devlog #2: New Sounds
Heya directors!
We’re continuing our exploration of the improvements made in Moviehouse in the past year. Previously, we covered the visual. What else is there?
Please consult this informative chart for reference.
That’s right, it’s hearing. Or, to be precise - the sound design of the game. (more information on how the game will smell to follow)
We’ve listened to feedback regarding the sound treatment in the old demo version of the game. And we’re proud to say - we’ve levelled up our sound design by partnering with one of the top music production houses in the Baltic States - “Ierakstu Māja”https://www.ierakstumaja.lv/
Moviehouse will be shipping with a brand new original soundtrack composed for the game, as well as new tailor-made sound effects.
For the soundtrack, we, together with Ierakstu Māja chose to follow the progression of the game, with each decade having a distinct musical style while still fitting together as a whole.
The new sound effect treatment includes better feedback on the films that are being made, with new sound effects for each genre of film you can make in the game. Explosions for action movies, rocket ships for sci-fi, you get the idea.
That’s it for now. But stay tuned for more updates! (I’ve been instructed to mention that licking the screen is not advisable while playing Moviehouse)
As an avid reader of books, I’ve always believed in the old wisdom - "don’t judge a book by its cover." While that may be true for books and movie posters…
I brought this one back from San Francisco, where I attended GDC. The old adage might have to be reversed in this case, however.
…but, as we know, movies and video games are visual media. And as movies can’t survive without their scripts, nor can our (amazing) gameplay without some nice visuals to accompany it.
Over the past year, we’ve iterated on our design, but it always felt like we were missing that “final touch”. Well, we’ve finally done it - we’re making a film studio simulator, so it only made sense to draw inspiration from the source - film sets. And in particular, miniatures.
No bananas for scale. [Photo by Yoshikazu TAKADA]
And here’s our rendition. As you zoom in closer, the background fades to a blue sky; that’s what the little miniatures see, living their lives and shooting movies, in their own personal Truman Show.
“We accept the reality of the world with which we're presented. It's as simple as that.”
And to tie it all together, here’s a little blast from the past of where we started and our journey to where we are now.
It's an exponential growth in visuals! Raytracing in 2030?
That’s it for now, we’re getting everything ready to bring the game to the Big Screen real soon. Stay tuned!
