Mr. Grayscale

World 2 is Complete

Hey guys,

How's it going? Nearly the end of Summer and I feel like we never had one here in Ireland, or ever for that matter.

Anyway I completed World 2 it was fun, nice level progression and strange ways of dealing with levels, I wish you could of played it... I joke (terrible one too!) I just mean I finished making it, that includes the challenge levels and the bonus levels (secret portals required).
Hurtz the resident boss is still underway working on his stage and tweaking his attack pattern (got to get it right). But everything before that is done and dusted can't wait to let you try it out :)

Here's a first look at the layout.

And below is a level from this world that happens to have a secret exit that will unlock one of the bonus areas so have a look and prep yourself so you can find it later this year.

In addition to finishing off world 2 I've managed to almost finish off the list for world hazards (hazzards? can never remember how to spell that).

Some of these you would have seen in platform games before and it would be a sin not to include them such as the infamous saw blade on a stick that can spin and swing (not at the same time mind you though maybe...), moving platforms, falling platforms, falling spikes, the infamous spike traps with barely enough time to react, disappearing tiles, bouncy floor for reaching higher places when you can't rotate no more and quite a few more that you will become acquainted with.
One of which is below which I have not mentioned. I wonder what it does?

Aside from hazards and level design type stuff, I've also been making quality of life stuff for myself to make level design a little easier, such as custom UI and custom menus within the editor so I can change things without having to bother with the variables I don't need in that instant. It doesn't do much for you guys I guess but just thought I would let you know (and if you make games yourself you really should get into the habit of it it's amazing how much you can make and reuse with custom UI) :)

Oh if you're into music, and by that video game music Rhyss will be having me post out a track or two each week the first of which is here:

So anyway have you tried the demo yet? If so what did you think? If not why not? Will you now?

On that note I will leave you and say goodnight,

Until the next update as always,
Paul

Mr Grayscale Developers Speed run race the Demo

Paul and Rhyss will play Mr Grayscale the Demo and will race against each others times to see who comes out on top. As we do that we will answer questions about the game and talk about the future of the game.

So come say hi and ask us anything :)

Play the Mr. Grayscale Demo

Two brothers, a musician and a programming nerd will let you try their game Mr. Grayscale, a retro throwback where you have to platform, rotate the stage and phase through colours to make it to the end of each level as quick as possible.

Your Grandpa has been kidnapped and it's up to you "Little Grayscale" to go out on the adventure of your life to figure out why and bring him back!!!
Phase between white and black which affects the way you interact with the world to solve puzzles, beat bosses and uncover the truth while proving you're worthy of the title "Mr." in the epic adventure of Mr. Grayscale.

Each level has been hand crafted and designed so that you can play in short bursts and for longer play sessions with enough content to keep you coming back for more. Think you could have beaten a level faster? Well show it the world and yourself with the game saving your best time of every stage you have cleared.

Demo Incoming!!!

Hey Guys,

I hope you're all keeping safe and well during these times. It's important we all do this together so we can get outside again, but then again I know I'm enjoying this extra free time to game, er develop Mr Grayscale. ːsteamhappyː

Anyway these past couple of weeks I've been bug fixing and working on getting a demo ready for you guys to play. The screen shot above is the level select screen. Hopefully when you get your hands on it, it will be an enjoyable experience to navigate through the map finding secrets and hidden paths.

I've been streamlining features for quicker development and also been upgrading a few levels from later worlds for the demo so you can try it out.

The level above will involve objects falling so you will have to carefully manipulate the world to make it to safety.

Rhyss has done an outstanding job with the music in the meantime and can not wait for you to hear some of the tracks that will go be in game :)

Outside of the Demo I've been working on a cool boss fight (to me anyway) that will test your skills to the max and you may even notice the reference when it comes out, no screenshots for now but next time you'll see I promise ;)

Anyway it's pretty late here for me so until the next update stay safe.

Paul

World One is a Wrap!!!

Level "Number 4" in all it's glory

Hey Guys I hope you're all keeping well and staying safe enjoying the extra gaming time being in lockdown.

With the long bank holiday weekend freeing up a lot of time for myself, I have managed to finally complete World One. I am super happy with it and I hope you are excited as I am to finally let you play it on release.

With inside news of needing to get the game to work smoothly on both a large screen and a small screen (hint hint). There has been a lot of reworking the levels to be able to fit in the palm of your hands. This has lead to the reworkings of levels for tighter game play as well as opened up an opportunity to redesign levels to be more visually impressive like so:

Level "Barrels of Torpedoes " Mr. Grayscale falling in style

The last level before the boss level needed some reworking. On a small screen the level was too much of an eye strain on a smaller screen but it allowed for more interesting level design. Here now the level is perfectly snug even as an image on your monitor.

Level "The Test" the final challenge before facing off with a foe.

Anyway stay safe and keep well and I look forward to sharing the next update with you all soon. :)

Visual Updates and More

Hey Guys,

First post here. Just want to show you the work we have been doing so far coming up to release.

We've overhauled the art for Mr. Grayscale to give it a sleeker look. We are super grateful to Alexander Mironidis for the effort such an awesome look for the game.

We've also made it so Grandpa Grayscale will be playable. He's as agile as Mr. Grayscale but with a bigger hit box so things can be a little trickier with him.

Here's a shot of them next together.

Bosses have had an update. We've been hard at work to create memorable bosses and hopefully you have fun battling it out with them. This is sadie here. We'll be showing off more as time goes on.

We've also began to change the sound to use FMOD instead as well so we can have some dynamic control over the songs you will hear can't wait to show you guys!!!

Til next time,
Paul :)
