SWOLE SPELL SETS UPDATE NOW LIVE!

Welcome to the second Muscle Magic update! This update will focus on improving the overall gameplay experience by changing up the main combat, as well as improvements to the overall UI. Join our wizards as each of them gets their own set of spells to barrage the others with!

[NEW CONTENT]

  • New Spell Sets: The wizards have all trained themselves in their arts, and now each of them has their own separate set of spells! From now on, you can select individual characters in the Character Select, each with their own costume and set of spells that will be kept the same throughout each round. This does mean the original Random Spells gameplay has been replaced. The spell sets were however closer to our original vision for the game, and we believe they will create a more fun and interesting gameplay environment for Muscle Magic.
  • Keyboard Support: the game can now be played with keyboard and mouse! One player can now control the menus with keyboard, and control the character with keyboard and mouse during the actual game. Do note that the keyboard controls will have to be turned on in the Options menu first, which then immediately switches Player 1 from controller to keyboard. More in-depth information on the control scheme will follow soon.
  • Wizard Make-Overs: the wizards have had a visual overhaul! They now have much more expressive faces, more beard variations and more muscles.
  • New Spell - Turbo Tackle: the Turbo Tackle spell is now featured in one of the spell sets! This spell falls into the movement category, and is categorized by giving your chosen wizard a burst of speed forward that can be used to pin other players into walls or other object.
  • New Spell - Wrestling Ring: the Wrestling Ring spell is now featured in one of the spell sets! This spell falls into the defensive category. When activated, a part of a boxing ring is spawned into the level that can reflect any incoming spells or players.
  • New Obstacles: Testosterstone has some new surprises waiting for our wizards, mainly in the form of the new obstacle it introduces: the mine cart. You will see some wizards riding this cart up and down the tracks throughout the match, so be careful not to bump into it!

[LEVEL]

General:
  • Despite having the level listed as Coming Soon before, we had to cut Muscleopolis before the final release. The level was not living up to our expectations, and we prioritized focusing our team towards improving the game according to community feedback rather than continuing forward with this particular level.

Armpit:

  • Reduced the size of the collision box on the wall of boxing gloves in Armpit.

Testosterstone:
  • Camera in Testosterstone now adapts more to the positions of the players. If players are close together or only a few players are left, the camera will now zoom in more.
  • Floor of the level updated to accommodate for the minecart by making the tracks connect to each other more.
  • Fixed the issue of players been able to hide below the walls at the bottom of the level.
  • Further optimized the level environment for better game performance.
  • Decreased damage applied to players when they are hit by a stalactite.

  • Fixed an issue where the stalactites would start their spawning sequence before the level countdown ends.

[MENUS]
  • Characters are now animated in the Character Select Menu. Each player has a different animation to look at while they are selecting their character.
  • Icons present in the Character Select to show which spell set each character has.

  • Added spotlights for each character in the Character Select Menu.
  • Main Menu visuals have been reworked. The buttons, colours and images have been updated fully.
  • Main Menu buttons have better feedback for when players are hovering on a button.
  • Level Select visuals have been reworked. The menu now fits more with the overall UI style and features more zoomed-out images of each level.
  • Score Screen visuals have been reworked. This screen now more clearly shows the amount of points each player has, as well as fitting more with the overall UI style.
  • Pause Menu has been reworked visually. It is now positioned towards the left side of the screen, and has better button visuals and button feedback.

[HUD]
  • Spell icons next to the health bar now match the colour of the player.
  • The cooldown timer of spells can be seen visually filling back up in the icons next to the health bar.
  • Health bar visuals have been updated slightly.
  • The health bar will now briefly flash red when a player is hit.
  • The health bar will now flash red continuously and shake more violently when the player is at low health.
  • The colour of the damage indication in the health bar has been changed from red to white.
  • Killfeed has been enabled again, with updated visuals and icons.

[AUDIO]
  • Music was added to the menus. This music will progressively get more instrumentation the further you progress through the menus.
  • Background music was reworked with different instrumentation and tempo.
  • Music and sound effects now slow down for the duration of the slow-motion effect that triggers when you eliminate a player.
  • Added crowd cheering sound effect whenever a player is eliminated.
  • Added a short elimination sound effect when a player is eliminated.
  • Added sound effects for the stalactites in Testosterstone falling and crashing into the ground.

  • Enabled proper shadows for characters, spells and level hazards.
  • Updated the game logo in the Introductory Screen with a cleaner version.
  • Added loading screens with explanations of the controls to serve as a good tutorial while players wait for the level to load in.
  • When a player is eliminated, the camera moves back towards the remaining players more fluidly.
  • When a player is eliminated in a 1v1 situation, the camera zooms in on the person who got eliminated while the slow-motion effect activates.
  • Added Analytics & GDPR agreement aimed at collecting data about items such as spell usage and overall K/D rate. This will help us balance the game in the future.
  • Players and their staffs now move into the direction they were launched into when ragdolling after an elimination.
  • The characters now have more beard colours than just white.
  • The particle effect on the top part of the player staff has been reworked.

  • Fixed an issue where players could not select the same character.

NEW UPDATE WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS!

For anyone that has played the game at INDIGOx in Utrecht this Thursday and Friday, the contents of the next update will be quite familiar. For all of our other fans: we will be adding new spells, new ways to play and new options for you to control the game with. Stay tuned for when the update launches, and in the meantime, here is your teaser image already:

We hope you will enjoy what we have in store for you!

MANCAVE MADNESS NOW LIVE!

Muscle Magic has received its first post-launch update! Join our wizards as they spelunk into the depths of a new level and explore the wondrous lands of balance changes and bug fixes:

[NEW CONTENT]

  • New map: Testosterstone. This level features the underground depths beneath the Armpit, where the wizards have established their locker rooms. Watch out for the stalactites coming loose from the ceiling while you are playing on this map!
  • New taunts. Press the bumpers to do some work-outs during the game and taunt your opponents.

[SPELLS]

Rage:

  • Removed the Rage spell from the spell rotation. We personally felt that this spell was not making any meaningful contributions to the gameplay and did not properly function within its defensive role. As such, we are removing the spell at the moment. In a future update, we will make sure there are other defensive abilities to serve as a replacement, but these are still in development. Updates coming soon!

Magnet Mates:

  • Added new visuals for Magnes Mates. The new visuals better reflect the original theming of the spell.
  • Magnet Mates beam now applies damage to players that walk through it. Damage value is set to 6HP. Damage is applied when a player walks into the beam, together with minor knockback.

Flash Blink:

  • Flash Blink is now colour-coded to represent the colour of the player who used it.

Boomerang:

  • Made Boomerang spell easier to catch after it is thrown.

[LEVEL]

Armpit:

  • Small camera tweaks. The camera now keeps all of the players in camera view better.
  • Spawn points position changed outwards towards the edges of the map.
  • Bumpers in the corners of the map are now easier to hit and rebound spells from.
  • Added NPC characters to the outskirts of the Armpit.

[MENUS]

  • Character Selection Menu was tweaked to be located in a locker room, rather than being displayed on a static, coloured background.
  • Unlocked the Testosterstone level in the Level Selection Menu.
  • Updated the previews of each level environment in the Level Selection Menu.
  • Players can now back out of the Pause Menu by pressing either B or start, rather than having to manually press the ‘’Resume’’ option.
  • Added Main Menu option for the Book of Swole. This option will be used to take the player to the spell list feature we are preparing. This option is greyed out for now, but will be available in the next update!

Note: we made a minor mistake with the Character Select Menu. Currently it does not show how you can switch to a different team than the default selected one. This can be done with the bumpers.

[HUD]

  • Removed outline around the individual character health bars for better clarity.
  • When a player is at low HP, the health bar and cool down icons jitter slightly to signify their health status.
  • When a spell comes off cooldown, the icon enlarges for a moment to signify the player’s ability to use the spell again.
  • Damage numbers now reflect the colour of the selected team.

[GENERAL]

  • Added animation for the wizards spawning in at the start of a round.
  • Added animation for the wizard if the player tries to fire a spell while it is on cooldown.
  • Disabled Killfeed. The Killfeed shown during individual rounds is currently not working as we intended it to work, meaning we need some time to fix it and bring it up to our standards. As such, we have disabled it for the time being. The feature will return in a future update.
  • Fused hat, skin colour and staff options into one cohesive costume set. Each costume set also has a fantastically pun-y name attached to it. This is done in preparation of a future update as well, so stay tuned!

[BUG FIXES]

  • Steam application properly closes now after players quit out of the game.
  • The ‘’Main Menu’’ option in the Victory Menu is now immediately selectable, instead of only being selectable after the player hovered over the ‘’Rematch’’ button first.
  • Fixed the issue of players being knocked out of the map by getting hit with the Boxing Glove spell or getting hit during the Skipping Rope start-up.
  • Fixed the issue of players getting frozen in place while utilizing the Skipping Rope spell.
  • Fixed the issue where hitting a player with a Fire Fist during their Skipping Rope animation would forego any damage to the player being hit.
  • Fixed the issue of player momentum sometimes slowing down while using Skipping Rope.

Release Update

With our original release date coming closer and closer, we have been working hard on getting Muscle Magic ready for everyone to play and have fun with. Unfortunately, we have found that the game is not quite yet up to the standards we would like to achieve, meaning that we would need some additional time to polish the game up a bit more. This means our release date has been pushed back. Fear not however: the new release date is not far away, as will now release the game next week on the 26th of April. Our apologies for having to delay the game, and we hope that you look forward to playing an even better version of the game next week!
