Power Shot Update 1.9.2

Hello Musicians!

After many weeks of preparation and working we are finally ready to release our newest and probably best update to the game so far! Update 1.9.2 finally releases the Power Shots to all players. With these new game mechanic, that lets to play multiple notes with one simple movement, we now feel that all base game-play elements are in the game.

You can shoot, punch, bend, do vibratos, play dead notes, smash the notes, play chords. So all these available meteor types, allow for a lot of experimentation and exploration. We feel that playing music in VR is now not only interesting and simple, but really fun and with a lot of depth.

This update also brings a change to the tutorial system. We've split the tutorial in two, Basic and Advanced. The goal is to get players to playing songs as soon as possible. The first tutorial covers the basics, shooting, punching, the whiplash. And once you finish the basic tutorial, you can play any of game modes in the game, but some features are locked until you finish the advanced tutorial.

Locked features until Advanced Tutorial completion.

  • Difficulties Hard and Expert
  • 4 Song modifiers are enabled and can't be disabled

    • No Handedness
    • No Bends
    • No Dead Notes
    • No Power Shots

We hope that this change will ease the player experience. Get players used to the innovative game-play of Musical Range, before heading to the advanced tutorial. We still have plenty of work to do in the new user experience camp. We'll monitor player feedback and iterate so anyone who picks up the game can feel like they are playing music with just a few minutes of introduction. Our Discord Server is a great place to let us know about your experience.

The basic tutorial also includes a lot of new flare, as we are working towards enhancing the lore of the game, to make the world feel like a real and livable world, and to establish the player's role and goal. We hope you enjoy it.

The post is growing to long, so lets jump straight into the change log.

Open Beta 1.9.0

Hello!

We have opened up access to the 1.9.0 BETA version of the game. We are finally enabling access to a new gameplay feature we've been working for quite a while now, which truly enhances the way you can play music and feel the power of rock!

Power Shots

Power Shots are a new gameplay mechanic, where by shooting and punching a note at the same time, you will perform a Power Shot which plays a Power Chord. This allows you to play fuller and richer sounds. Power Shots can the me manipulated just like any notes, sustain, bends, vibratos, punch note.

We also updated the tutorial with a new phase to introduce the Power Shot. As a consequence, all players must replay through the tutorial before being able to access the Main Menu.

All songs currently enabled in the game already have Power Shot meteors. You can identify these by the circle surrounding the meteor as it falls.

We also updated the difficulty charts of 3 songs. (Easy, Normal and Hard)

  • Nothing Disturbs Me by The Bullseyes
  • The Future Is Now by Dorrr
  • She's On Fire by Brandon FT SJBRAVO

Dead Notes

Dead Notes have been renabled and are now have handedness to them. The dead note meteor visuals has been updated.

UI Updates

The update also includes changes to the way the game keeps track of your statistics and we've updated the Song Finish Stat UI to be clearer.

BETA ACCESS

To access the beta, right click Musical Range in your Steam Library. Select Properties. In the Properties window, select the Betas and under Beta Participation, select 1.9.0-Beta from the Dropdown list. And Steam will download the update to your PC.

Update 1.9.0 Alpha

Hello!

We are forced to push an update earlier than we'd like to the Public Branch. We need to keep track of player progression during the tutorial for new players, so we are releasing an update. Now the game will push a standardize leaderboard score when the player passes certain phases in the tutorial. We want to use this information to detect where players are struggling to progress the tutorial, in order to change and improve it.

As a consequence, we are pushing to the game a bunch of changes that we wanted to wait until version 1.9.0, so we are calling this push an Alpha version. Specially, since many song charts need to be updated.

Bellow is a changelog detailing the changes since the previous update.

  • Tutorial pushes player progress to a hidden leaderboard so we can track player progress and identify if players are getting stuck in a specific part of the tutorial
  • Updated Human Love by Dorrr song chart for Expert
  • Updated World Doesn’t Care by The Bullseyes song chart for Expert and song audio
  • Updated So Alive by Brandon ft. SJBRAVO song chart for Expert and song audio
  • Updated how the game displays Punch Notes and Power Shot meteors*.
  • - Meteors look overall with less clutter and the instructions to the player on what to do is clearer.
  • - Power Shots are a new gameplay element which is not currently enabled as we are refining it still.
  • Fixed an issue where a Gun Punch could hit 2 different Note Meteors in the same frame.
  • Punch Helpers have a cooldown to encourage alternate punching (Punch, Pull, Punch, Pull), this should feel smoother and the game should not register one punch move forward as multiple punches (unless you are really going for it)
  • Added Hit and Miss animations to the 3D scale of Target Note. The perfect hit animation is more intense than a Great or OK hit.
  • Updated the Perfect Hit particle effect.
  • Disabled Songs whose chart are NOT updated for new gameplay.
  • - Current Active Songs
  • - All Anara pack songs
  • - Easy Said from Big Indie pack

We thank you for your patience while we work to update all oficial song charts back into the game.
