Mutated Muter's Invasion

"Mutated Muter's Invasion" Gets a Major Refactoring!

A major update for "Mutated Muter's Invasion" to enhance gameplay experience is out! Some key points are:

  • The screen/window dimensions and the in-game pixel-wise render zone are re-factored to match 1920x1080 instead of 1696x960, as this gives a better view field for this game's sprite/object sizes;
  • NEW CONTENT: Better graphics and animations for some objects (particularly some enemies) and updated soundtrack;
  • fixes and improvements to the user interface;
  • Enhancements to the clarity of textual information, especially in the tutorial

And, of course, miscellaneous fixes and improvements. Enhance your un-Muting experience with this key update!

A Tutorial Level Now Available!

Confused over the gameplay mechanics and/or controls? No more worries! With the newly added tutorial level, you can say goodbye to the confusion and focus on beating the game. The tutorial level will not reveal everything the game has to offer, though, as it is not meant to be a spoiler ːsteammockingː. However, it WILL walk you through the basics that you need to know.

Also, as a reminder, it is now the Summer Sale, so use your chance to get "Mutated Muter's Invasion" with a discount!

Full Release Feature Update: Leaving Early Access

Dear Un-Muters,

After a productive Early Access stage, "Mutated Muter's Invasion" has now been feature-updated to transition to full release! Players can now enjoy all the long-planned features.

During Early Access, many improvements and updates had been happening, of which not all were possible to cover in announcements. This includes both internal improvements to the code (e.g. to improve performance) and visible changes (e.g. balancing the gameplay more). "Mutated Muter's Invasion" had also got Steam Cloud saves and Steam Achievements.

Now here is a quick summary of what is up with this big update:

  • More levels:
    The set of levels is now as originally planned. That's right, there are now more levels!

  • More secrets:
    In the levels, there are now more places to hunt for that are not immediately obvious, from truly "secret" to more or less "secret". Such places can be quite rewarding to find and give you useful items, so have fun exploring!

  • More mechanics:
    They will not let you get bored! Look for them especially in the new levels!

  • More power-up and item types:
    For example, the "super crescendo"; some are in the secret places mentioned above.

  • 4 more Steam Achievements, totaling 35:
    One of them is for finding a secret place that can be dangerous to discover.

Of course, leaving Early Access does NOT mean the development will cease completely! The Community can still expect that feedback will be listened to and that improvements and updates will continue to happen.

Steam Achievements Are Now Here!

Dear Un-Muters,

Steam Achievements are finally implemented in "Mutated Muter's Invasion", so now playing the game is more rewarding than it was before! This update brings 31 achievements. Of course, the Community is still welcome to express achievement-related ideas, and will always be (even after Early Access)! This includes both ideas for other achievements that could potentially be added and feedback on the current ones.

You may have noticed that few achievements have expert-mode counterparts, while others that, as it may seem, could do the same, do not. For example, since the "Ain't Afraid of Any Saws" achievement does have an expert-mode counterpart, it might seem reasonable that the "That Crazy Jump" achievement do too. However, doing the "crazy jump" in the first quarter-note level is actually equally difficult in all of the difficulty modes, whereas passing the "annoying saws section" in the expert mode is an exceptional task. This is why the developer believes that choosing which gameplay-related achievements should have expert-mode counterparts should be done mindfully. At the same time, however, considering how difficult the game becomes in general in the expert mode, getting to promote your musical note rank in the expert mode ought to be rewarded; this is why these ("Quarter Note", "Half Note", and "Whole Note") DO have expert-mode counterparts. Now here is the nice part: if you unlock an expert-mode achievement, you automatically win its regular (non-expert) counterpart!

In addition, there are achievements for beating the game in the hard and the expert modes. The same principle applies: if you win the expert-mode achievement without having won the other corresponding achievement, the latter is also immediately yours! Please know that beating this game in the expert mode means you are really special!

Have fun!
