Die Gute Fabrik, the studio behind MUTAZIONE, are delighted to share an exclusive playable demo of their brand new story-driven adventure game Saltsea Chronicles!

Available from the 19th-26th June 2023 you can download the demo on Steam for a limited time only as part of Steam Next Fest.
The demo features an excerpt from chapter 4 of the game, where you’ll visit the cat-culture island community of Los Gatos. Choose from three different expedition characters as you track down clues, and meet a wonderful cast of crew members and local folks.
You can also watch a stream of Creative Director Hannah Nicklin and Deputy Story Lead Sharna Jackson as they give a behind-the-scenes commentary on the demo.
We’re teaming up with Huey Games to launch a campaign for a USB cassette that includes Mutazione! But, not just Mutazione, since also included with the USB cassette is another one of our Akupara Games titles, Whispering Willows.

Die Gute Fabrik’s new game Saltsea Chronicles announced at Day of the Devs!
In 2019, Akupara Games published developer Die Gute Fabrik’s award-winning game Mutazione. Fast-forward to 2023 and we’re delighted to share the news that DGF’s next game was just announced at Day of the Devs Summer Game Fest!

The Final Seeds are Appearing in Your Gardens Today!

Mutazione is one of the cornerstone, foundational games that made Akupara what it is today so it’s very bittersweet to be ending development on it. We know how many of you connected with Kai as she healed the Papu Tree, connected with each other trading seeds and just connected with a gardening game that doesn’t ask for more than an attentive ear.

The Penpal Update
Today, we’re releasing our third major update for Mutazione, the Penpal Update!
While our last two updates focused on bringing Garden Mode to the game and unlocking all seven gardens to play through, Penpal offers an epilogue to Mutazione’s story. Over the course of a week, you’ll get to send and receive letters from your friends like Miu and Tung! If you’re hunting for new seeds to plant and trade, Penpal is going to bring new seeds and sounds to the game just like the Garden Mode and 7 Gardens updates before it.
Finally, we’re putting together The Mutazione Symphony! Players who send in a recording of their Garden Mode gardens will earn a game key for another Akupara Games title. More details on all of these can be found below!

Penpal
Two years have passed since Mutazione’s original launch, and now - two years on from the events of the original game - this new “Penpal” DLC allows you to return to the game’s world to catch up with your favourite characters. You’ll be able to draft letters, catch up on the gossip, and see photographs from characters like Tung and Miu. Penpal Mode is a durational experience that expands to the space of a week, which means each letter will take 24 hours to unlock. This free DLC offers a gentle epilogue expanding on the story’s conclusion.
Seeds
Just like the Garden Mode and the 7 Gardens updates, Penpal includes new seeds for players to earn! In fact, you’ll be able to preview all seven of them in the trailer above. Even more special, you’ll receive those seeds from your friends in Mutazione alongside their letters! If you’d like to spend a little time trading seeds to get a full collection, make sure to join the Akupara Games Discord to find a collective of gardeners happy to provide!
The Mutazione Symphony
Alongside the Penpal Update, we’re launching The Mutazione Symphony! Players who use Garden Mode to compose a short song (five minutes or less) can submit a video of their musical garden to us via the Akupara Games Discord. All entrants will be featured on the Akupara Games Youtube and receive keys to other Akupara Games like the recently released GRIME and Behind the Frame. If you’ve never recorded in game footage before, don’t panic! We’re happy to help players get the recording so they can add their song to the symphony. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
We’re so excited to be sharing even more Mutazione with you years after release. This has been one of our favorite titles to work on and we’re always excited to hear your enthusiasm over new content!

The Mutazione 7 Gardens Update Sprouts Today!
Today, we’re adding all seven Story Mode gardens to Garden Mode!

Mutazione launched a little over a year ago and since that time we’ve loved seeing the way that players engage with the game. Going back even after the story is done to tend your gardens, collecting elusive seeds in Garden Mode, and trading those seeds with one another on Steam and Discord has become this huge piece of the Mutazione fanbase. With today’s update, the gardens found in Story Mode can now be accessed in Garden Mode so that you can compose beautiful new soundscapes in the iconic gardens from the island.
If you’re new to the game, playing through each garden in Story Mode will unlock its counterpart in Garden Mode. If you’re only on Chapter 2, for instance, you’ll only have access to the Chapter 2 Rooftop Garden. If you solved the mystery of Mutazione, however, you will have access to all seven gardens when you load up Garden Mode today! Additionally, your Garden Mode seed box will now share seeds for all eight gardens in the game. Seeds you harvest from your Cloud Garden can then be planted in the East Garden without any issue. You’ll also find several new seeds to collect in the 7 Gardens update, so if you’ve been itching to breathe some new music into your compositions, now is a perfect opportunity!

If you’re lucky, maybe you can find a super rare Empress seedling, which produces a lovely singing voice,” said Douglas Wilson, Co-Owner of Die Gute Fabrik and Designer/Audio Engineer for Mutazione. “Beyond the new instruments, we’re thrilled that players can finally revisit the story gardens from the game. Mutazione comes to Linux!
Hey, mutants!
This one goes out to all of the Linux fans! We've heard you and completed work on a Linux build of the title that's going live today! This update is going to bring Mutazione to Linux players, but doesn't otherwise contain new features. So, if you wanted to follow Kai's adventure through Mutazione or plant a few seeds in Garden Mode, you'll now have the option of doing it on Linux as well!
That's definitely not the only news we wanted to highlight, though, since Mutazione has also been nominated for four Independent Game Festival awards! If you didn't catch it, Gamasutra tracked down the game's writer, Hannah Nicklin, for a truly insightful interview! And, of course, we'll learn if it won next month at GDC, so stay tuned!

Arabic Language Live, More on Seed Sharing
Greetings, mutants!
This update brings the localization for the Arabic language to the game! Arabic took just a bit longer to get ready so we decided to hold it for this update rather than delay Garden Mode for you!
Speaking of Garden Mode, we also wanted to include a small tutorial for the new seed sharing feature! As you accrue seeds you might not need anymore, you have the option of sending those seeds to your friends by sending them a six-letter code! To generate the code, go to Seed Sharing and select: "Send Seeds." Then, choose a type of seed and an amount to send and the game will generate a screenshot that you can share!
If you'd like to receive seeds, select: "Receive Seeds." Then, input the code and you'll get a postcard with the seeds adding them to your garden!
