* a new ship: Scrapping Syrma
* various new equipment options focusing on buffing your collision damage
* a couple subroutine changes to hopefully make some of the options more interesting (rather than just straight stat boosts)
* various bug fixes
* "improved" credit sequence? credits everyone who's reported bugs (whose name I had noted in the change log - sorry if I forgot yours!), plus some other silly things

0.9.5.3 release
the addition of Endless Mode has lived up to my expectations as a game-breaking feature :P
and I don't mean crashes! which have hopefully all been fixed as of about 5-6 days ago >_>
I mean game-breaking in the sense of accessory effects being stretched beyond the limits of sanity, and areas of Folded Space so long they make a grown person cry. of boredom.
0.9.5.3 fixes some of these most-glaring issues; I'm sure it won't be the last such patch!
one thing to note, before getting into these fixes: many of the ship part fixes are applied at the time that the ship part is actually generated by the game... so if you've got an Endless Mode game in-progress, your already-generated ship parts may still have negative cooldown times... (similarly, if you've saved in the middle of a planet with an obelisk, it will still have a painfully-long region of folded space; only newly-generated planets will be affected.)
here's the full changelog; thanks for reading, and thanks for playing Mysterious Space :)
0.9.5.3
=======
Fixes
-----
* Vampire Shields were having > 100% chances of granting bonus shields. This
has been fixed. (Other tweaks to Vampire Shields are listed below.)
* The following accessories can no longer have negative cooldown periods; they
are now capped to some minimum, usually 10 seconds: Last Resort, Deck of Many
Things, Phase Shield, Stream Interrupt, Alien Teleporter. (Other tweaks to
these accessories are listed below.)
* Similar to above: Hull Repair bots can no longer repair faster than 1 point
per second.
* Engine Booster speed boost can no longer exceed +100%.
* You can no longer see the name of an unidentified Deck of Many Things.
Folded Space
------------
* The length of Folded Space no longer increases linearly as you progress. (No
more 5-minute+ Folded Space segments in Endless Mode!)
* Early instances of Folded Space contain more simultaneous background stars;
the number of background stars no longer increases linearly...
* The amount of debris found in folded space still increases linearly, and the
rate at which it increases has itself been increased! (Look forward to
shorter, more-intense sections of folded space near the end game of
normal/story mode, and throughout Endless Mode.)
Accessories
-----------
* The maximum bonus shield a Vampire Shield can give has been increased from 5
to 15.
* Vampire Shields can now grant bonus points for enemy kills; this has no cap,
but does not increase linearly.
* The maximum effect from stacked blessings on Last Resort has been increased.
* Late-game Last Resorts deal less damage to you, and eventually start coming
with increasingly-powerful Blessings.
* High-level Lightning Generators may now have additional strikes or chains.
* A high-level Deck of Many Things may now cause multiple good things to happen
each time it triggers (but never multiple bad things).
0.9.5.1 bugfix release + a new subroutine
there was a nasty bug involving Endless Mode games, where upon loading an Endless Mode game, the game would probably crash on a later level. this had to do with the minimap... the game was mistakenly giving new planets the same ID as a previous one, causing it to re-use an old minimap... which in turn would crash things, since the minimaps were probably different sizes.
I tried to find a fix to preserve old Endless Mode saves, but couldn't quite figure it out. sorry about that :|
some good news: I happened to have started work on new content, so that's getting wrapped up in this update as well. here's the full changelog:
0.9.5.1
=======
Fixes
-----
* Fixed a bug where loading an Endless save game would probably result in a
crash when visiting a later planet. (It's weird. Don't ask.)
Subroutines
-----------
* New subroutine: Black Mushroom.
Weapons
-------
* Trail Guns can no longer have EMP bullets.
Armors
------
* The movement speed penalty and push resistance bonus of Heavy Armors
has been reduced from 20% to 15%.
Shops
-----
* The Ophiuchustians no longer have more than one star chart for sale at a
time. Because finding a shop half-full of star charts is REAL ANNOYING.
* Ship parts sold in shops now have a greater chance of being "blessed".
0.9.5 release!
0.9.5 took something of an unexpected turn... a friend of mine has been requesting an "endless" mode for a while, and I've seen a few screenshots and forum posts which reveal that players are enjoying spending some time exploring additional levels before finishing the game.
AND SO: Mysterious Space 0.9.5 introduces Endless Mode:
Endless Mode is available from the very beginning - no need to unlock it
It features a straight line of systems that goes on forever, including random alien shops (I may change the structure to add occasional branching paths, in a future update)
The difficulty of enemies - and the power of equipment you find - increases twice as fast in Endless Mode as it does in Normal/Story Mode (and increases without limit!)
Endless Mode has its own High Score table
I should say that the endless growth of equipment power, and the ceaseless rate at which enemies will begin to spawn, may introduce unexpected behavior in the game, and probably some weird bugs! Please report any you find, and I'll patch them up as quickly as possible!
finally: there's a few other tweaks in this update, however the promised "additional ways to spend your space money" is not among them >_> sorry about that. Endless Mode ended up taking over this update!
the full changelog is available here: https://mysteriousspace.com/changelog/0-9-x/
I know it's been a long time between updates, so thanks for your patience, and thanks for playing Mysterious Space! :)
helloooooo - small update coming!
I know I haven't worked on MS in a while, but it's definitely not forgotten! I've just been busy with another project.
BUT: I've got a small patch in the works, correcting a couple bugs (mainly surrounding Lightning Generators), and adding a totally new gameplay element to give some more use to your excess alien cash (as well as a tweak to shop inventory, to hopefully add more-compelling options).
I think it's safe to say that this will all be ready for an end-of-month release! :)
I'll also have a donation update at that time.
thanks for reading, and thanks for playing Mysterious Space! :)
0.9.4.5 - a bug fix!
I've received a couple crashes via the crash repoter about a division by zero error when shopping with very small/damaged armors! sorry about that! it's been fixed!
thanks for reporting!
and sorry for being so quiet recently. life has been busy, and I haven't found time to work on any of my games. but I'll be sure to let you guys know when that changes, of course :)
Roguelike Radio Episode 124: Shoot Em Ups - finally released :D
with me, James Whitehead (Really Big Sky), and Chris Park (Starward Rogue)
if you like listening to developers ramble about why they make the things they do :P
0.9.4.4 release!
this release brings precisely two additions: two new songs by DDRKirby(ISQ):
* a haunted world theme! (haunted worlds had been reusing the lava world theme until now...)
* a shopping theme!
the next month or two might be a little light on Mysterious Space updates, as I'm working on a new Mysterious Space-themed game. to make a long story short: I - like many others - was disappointed by Mighty no. 9; but perhaps UNlike many others, thought "... yeah, alright: I'll devote months of my spare time to making a better Mega Man-like." haha
I'm really focusing on getting a playable demo - one full level, complete with boss and special weapon - done and out into the world ASAP. I'll of course let you guys know when and where that becomes available :)
thanks for reading, and thanks for caring about Mysterious Space :)
0.9.4.3 bugfix release
this month was a bit of an odd one for Mysterious Space: I attempted that Kickstarter, wrote many websites and YouTubers asking if they'd review the game (which worked! IGR wrote a very kind review!), did a bunch of little bugfix releases, and also appeared on a podcast! (will let you guys know when it's released! should be any day now!)
exciting things in their own right; I hope you'll forgive me for this month's relatively small Mysterious Space update :)
0.9.4.3 - like the two releases before it - comes with a few bugfixes. they are:
Fixed game lag that would sometimes occur when spawning new enemies in co-op (seemed to especially happen after leaving "folded space").
Fixed a semi-rare crash that occurred when the game tried to spawn an Aiming Altair while you were near the very top of the level.
Fixed a more-rare crash related to an old method in the game responsible for finding empty tiles. This bug has existed for who-knows-how-long. I don't know if I was just lucky enough to never have it happen until now, or if recent changes have resulted in that method getting called more... either way: FIXED :P
Overcharged Shields were shooting lightning even when not blessed.
thanks, as always, for reading, and thanks for playing Mysterious Space :)
0.9.4.1 bugfix release
hello, internet. sorry it took me a while to get to this release. I was at a friend's wedding this weekend :)
0.9.4.1 fixes a couple bugs which some users were kind enough to report.
the first - and most-important - was a game crash that affected anyone who had never played before, or who had deleted their Mysterious Space settings file! agk! this had to do with the new keybindings configuration introduced in the last update, and I'm embarrassed to have not caught it myself, during development!
sorry about that! if you didn't ask Steam for a refund after that one, you're a more-patient gamer than I am :P
the second fix had to do with the Alien Teleporter accessory. the game would crash if you used it to cross the seam of the level (the invisible line where a level's left edge and right-edge meet, giving the illusion of a circular level). I can't be 100% certain that the crash I found here is the same as the one reported, but I'm pretty sure!
thanks for reporting these issues, you guys - it really helps! and sorry about the bugs, and the extra few days delay in fixing them.
and of course: thanks for reading, and thanks for playing Mysterious Space :)
