Nemithia: Tale of the Legendary Saviors

19th February 2024 Public Beta Update

Greetings everyone,

I apologize for the delay on bringing a new update for the game's public beta v1.5.0, been having some trouble balancing my work, university studies, and my duties as the game developer, work has been quite demanding these past few months and it has taken a bit of a toll on me and I apologize.

With that out of the way, here are the changes brought with this new update:

Bugs

  • Dungeon generation

    • Temporarily disabled dungeons due to an issue with the way dungeon rooms are generated, allowing the possibility for the player to get soft-locked if the dungeon key is generated on a side blocked by the boss room;
    • In place of the usual dungeon entrances, there's now a statue in the forest part of the map that generates fights with the bosses currently available in the game, and future bosses as soon as they are made available.

  • Spells not launching

    • Fixed an issue with spells like Lightning Bomb appearing on top of the character and not being launched, causing a soft-lock mid-fight.

  • Crops collision detection

    • Fixed an issue where the collision detection for crops wasn't working properly so the player wouldn't be able to pick up the crop they were looking at.



Changes

  • Post-fight screens

    • The victory screen has been remade to show the character's exp gain/level up separately and display the item drops after the characters;
    • The defeat screen as been remade to be separate from the victory screen so as to better highlight a defeat.

  • Menu overhaul

    • Removed the party option from the pause menu as it was no longer necessary
    • Team menu

      • Party members are now highlighted in orange;
      • The menu now shows the list of characters on both pages;

    • Item Menu

      • The item menu was changed to a tabbed window that now allows players to filter them by category.

    • Character summary screen

      • This screen now shows the following tabs

        • Character information and stats
        • Grimoire and spells
        • Equipment (and allow equipment to be changed in this screen)
        • Element mastery (which will have a big role later on in the story)


    • Pause menu

      • Added icons to the pause menu options


  • Minigame adjustments

    • The boulder breaking and dodge the rocks minigames now take less time to finish;
    • Minigames now give some money back at the end;
    • Minigames now have a chance to give an item to raise a determined stat at the end.

  • Day/Night cycle adjustments

    • Changed the day/night cycle so that now 1 real-world hour is equal to a full day in the game

  • Implemented a button mapping to allow players to skip the dialogue (still in testing)
  • New music

    • Added new music for:

      • Title Screen
      • Arcade
      • Boss battle
      • Aramore forest
      • Fights
      • Intro chapter when the drakians are invading

This has been everything that's been done so far in terms of development, hopefully I'll be able to bring more regular updates soon.

Beta Update Week 1 August 2023

Greetings everyone,

I know it's been a long time since I last posted an update to the game and I want to apologize for that, these last few months have been demanding both with my work and my private life and because of that, the game's development has suffered some delays.

With that said, I want to announce some new changes that can be tested in the public beta channel:

Story Intro
The game now has a proper story intro that shows some tutorials regarding movement and fighting and the battle between Arthur and Amolon Morrowstar.

Changes to the fight screen
The fight screen has been revamped and now has new icons for HP and MP and the old buttons with text for the various actions(Fight, Spells, Item, Switch) have been replaced with icon buttons to make it more compact.


Changes to crops
After some feedback regarding the crop respawn timers some changes were made to reduce the times to an average of 30 minutes instead of being a daily occurrence.

Interior Lighting
The interior map has been changed to add lighting sources(Ceiling lights, moonlight through windows, etc.) during nighttime.

New Title screen
The title screen now has a new background that demonstrates the influence of the Drakians on Nemithia and new social icons have been added that lead to my discord server, youtube channel, and Twitch channel.

Quests
Quests are now being implemented and can be seen by pressing O to toggle open the Quest Panel.
For now, only some main quests will appear and side quests are planned to be implemented at a later update.
Quest tracking icons have also been added to the minimap and will always show to help point to where the player needs to go.

New character sprites
I'm currently in the process of remaking the overworld and fight sprites for all characters as will be apparent throughout this beta's gameplay, these are not final and some bugs may occur with rendering.

This has been everything that's been done so far in terms of game development and from now on I'll do my best to do these more regularly as well as try to stream more often and publish some devlogs on Youtube.
