DD#152 The People in the Town of Outlaws
Hi, everyone. Merry Christmas! Welcome to another week's developer's diary.
Before we start, just a reminder, this year's Christmas hats and Christmas trees shall appear by now if your system time is correct. Don't forget to collect them.
Now let's see what happened this week. As mentioned in last week's developer's diary, this week's focus is on Katan. It's a town founded by outlaws and exiled from the Nise Federation hidden in the desert. However, even a town like this has its own rules.
As it's a town of outlaws, naturally, when you get into the town for the first time, someone will want to do some outlaw things to you. You will have many different ways to react. However, as a town that has its own rules, you will see certain people who break the rules get punished. For more details, you may find in this video: Alternative link for players in China: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Bb4y1G7fa/ If you play Fallout 4, this part of the story may seem familiar to you. I pretty much somehow tried to recreate an encounter that happens in the Goodneighbor. The girl will make comments on how you handled the situation before she came in. Thus, your choice matters. As it's a new cutscene, you can unlock it in the Gallery of the Memory to watch it again later. All the rules of the town can be found on a nearby board.
But, there is still a big question to solve. That is, how can a town survive not only to the terrible environment but also to the potential threats from the Nise Federation? The answer lies in all those extraordinary people this town has. You already met one, so let's talk about the others.
A Hospital known as the Butcher House. It's quite essential to have a doctor in your gang so that at the end of the day, someone can piece your fellow gangsters' broken bodies together, some of them may even recover from critical wounds. Thus, the first thing I added was a doctor. However, they believe painkillers and anesthetics should be used in more meaningful things such as creating drugs instead of being wasted on weaklings who cannot stand the pain, there will be a lot of screaming when the doctor is in operation. Thus, the building received its name, and the doctor is called the Butcher.
A Weapon Merchant Who Eliminated All Competitions Selling weapons in a town like this is quite profitable. Because this is science, I guess. It's even more profitable if you take care of all the competitors by testing your products right on them. That's not all. Who would expect the weapon merchant to be an ex-inquisitor? A lot of ways to make you rich very fast are indeed written in the laws, they are known as crimes, and nobody knows laws better than someone once presented the laws himself.
Those are the two major players above the ground in our current version. However, for security reasons, you will find some of Katan's structures are located underground so that they can withstand bad sandstorms or an outside invasion with ease. The Den of the Pleasure is one such building. As the name indicates, this is something very unique to this town. If I want to place a brothel, an erotica store, a drug den, and a place for all kinds of decadent or even sinful pleasure, where can be better than Katan? So, here we are. It uses a lot of purple tones to indicate its aspect with a new set of tiles. (You can use this tileset for your pocket dimension as well if you want to make your home a place like this.)
Although the den is still in construction, we can already meet some of the noticeable people here. You will meet: "The Gentleman" who steals people's wives according to some Chinese Urban legends has a store here selling all kinds of items to enhance your experience.
"The Forger" is not only able to forge money or passports for you but also to reshape your body so that you may enjoy this place better. Well, the reason to add this guy here is more or less I want to have some other characters that can allow you to change your passport, appearance, and gender in addition to Captain Nameless so that we no longer need to go all the way back to the Safehouse to do something like that. Of course, unlike Captain Nameless, this guy will charge a small fee to provide his services. The idea is pretty much coming from the Flesh Shaper of Melancholia in the Warhammer 40k universes. Oh, well, I guess this place has far more Slannash corruptions than that. Yet, because of copyright reasons, we just do not say that in the game loudly, but the environment and the characters are screaming in silence. :)
In addition to everyone mentioned above, the town also has fences you can sell your goods to without questioning where you get them from. There is also a bar located in the Den of the Pleasure. But, it only sells "safe" drinks. Random outlaws in town a non-hostile as they have to obey the rules. More updates will certainly come in the future as there are much more to be added here.
In addition to the content in Katan. Ukraine-related mini-games such as "The Ghost of Kyiv" and "The Special Tractor Operation" now also reward "Dust of History." Because the war has been on for more than 660 days by now. We are living in a history of the future generation. Let them know, we stand with Ukraine when they look back to us! Meanwhile, I found someone who left a negative review of this game because I am supporting Ukraine very amusing. So be it. They are not one of us, and maybe they can never be. It's their problem. When I talked with Una, she told me, she thinks many of us all sacrificed something to support Ukraine, yet we are still doing this because this is the right thing. Meanwhile, who can sacrifice more than those brave soldiers who are risking their lives on the frontline right now? What we sacrificed is tiny compared to theirs. Thus, we shall continue our firm support to Ukraine without any doubts. Her words inspire me. Thus, a new item prefix the "sacrifer's" has also been added to the game. Now also about Una. I think she is getting closer to making more NSFW mods. But, after checking Steam's workshop policy a bit more. I think we are unable to have something truly Adult-Only there. It's quite an irony as Steam has tons of Adult-Only games while Adult-Only mods are not allowed. Something like the Sex Cutscene mod may be the farthest we can get. But, we will figure out something if she really wants to make that kind of mods. :) Meanwhile, I have added NSFW tags for all mods that are NSFW in the workshop so that kids may not accidentally download them. (I don't think there are any kids though, as technically the game is already marked as 14+, 16+, or even 17+ depending on different regions.)

DD# 151 Towards the Desert and Sea
Hi, everyone! Welcome to another week's developer's diary.
This week's development continues around Hottle.
To the north, we now have the access to the underwater tunnel. According to ancient legends, eons ago Samujire separated the sea so people could walk through it. It sounds like a certain character in the Bible, right? However, the way he separated the sea was a bit different. The sea water became the ceiling of this tunnel while many marine creatures gained the ability to breathe in the air. That's what his followers believe. Yet, is that the truth? It certainly requires some further investigation. Thus, the tale attracted a certain Marine Biologist. Aside from the anomalous attribution of the tunnel itself, there are also many strange creatures down there. You can find sea dwellers known as Benboers and Baboers in this tunnel with some interesting loots they can drop. Meanwhile, if you want to turn them into pets, please feel free to do so. Benboers have a bonus on water magic power while Baboers are more efficient to apply poison on your enemies. As such, we are now about one map away from Qinuyi. But, there is no rush, as there is still a lot of content to be filled on Sayinas Island.
To the South, the development of the Katan desert continues. In addition to wild animals, we now have something more dangerous. That is human. Many outlaws consider this desert as their hunting ground as a certain type of local mineral attracts many to come to this part, testing their luck for a profit. It is essentially a wild West as it's also located in the western part of Sayinas Island. Because of the dangerous environment and internal corruption, the law enforcers of the federation unsurprisingly have little motivation to bring justice across this desert. Consequently, it became a haven for many criminals, exiles, and many others who just wanted to disappear from society. The town of Katan was built on such a foundation. Yet, even among thieves, there are honors. The town eventually became self-governed by those most unwanted in the federation. Some leaders of the federation argue the very existence of this town can be a threat to national security while others consider it a natural penal colony that reduces the costs of the federation.
We will get more content about Katan next week. However, art assets have already been planned ahead. In addition to the outlaws mentioned above, we also have another beautiful girl. :) For now, you can already use all those new character appearances on your main character or customized teammates.
In addition to the outward expansion, more content updates take place inside Hottle. The Illuminati Field Office is now more functional. You can find a store, a skill trainer, and a doctor inside. However, to gain access to get inside, you will need a good relationship with the Illuminati. Alternatively, you can also try to deceive the security guard or just fight and kill him if you want to do so. Of course, the latter options will not make the local Illuminati personals too happy.
In the Hottle Equipment Store, you can now find a blueprint to craft storm katanas that Howard-Houseguards use. Your 3D modeling skills can enhance the wind power benefits from those weapons. The prefixes of "Storm" are guaranteed. That's another usage of the Golden Stones of Xuanhuang.
In some dark corners of Hottle, you may now find black market merchants trading outside the regulation of the local government. They can sell you those precious Golden Stones and other legally questionable goods. As long as you can pay the price and do not ask where those goods coming from.
Of course, black market merchants shall not only be in Hottle. You can now find them in Liu, too. However, the legal situation and resource available is quite different between those two nations, the local black market merchants prefer to sell hentai books in Liu rather than more supernatural contraband. (Meanwhile, in the Nise Federation, those Hentai Books are not even illegal as long as they are not sold to underaged customers.)
Meanwhile, continue from last week's weird regions. We now get something equally "interesting." A modern-day adoption of Confucianism among Warhammer fans in China. It may be useful to players who prefer to aggressively "persuade" their enemies to death under tons of emotional damage.
