Night and Day

Unity Port

Hi!

Night and Day is currently being ported to Unity to make the structure of the game from scratch, since all the attempts at fixing and purging my poor spaghetti code have only led to new bugs.

The porting process is quite advanced by now, so I think we can have a new version of the game before the summer, keeping the story, the options, and the mini-games, but this time without any hindrance during the gameplay. For those of you who have found a bug that prevented obtaining one of the endings, I can only ask for a bit more patience. No one is looking forward to having Night and Day working at its best as I do, trust me!

Thank you again for your understanding!

New BL Visual Novel!

PIRATES!!

In the mood for playing a short visual novel with pirates and BL romance? Then, as usual, Ertal Games is here to provide the experience!

Jolly Roger is a visual novel developed for the Yaoi Jam (hence its short length), with only one love interest but four possible endings. And it's now available on Steam!

New update with bug fixes

Hi, it's me again, after so long since the last time I updated Night and Day.

First of all, let me apologize for the unreasonable delay in fixing the bugs: I suppose many of you know that my team is basically just myself, plus the amazing artists and composers I commission. I sometimes have a bit of help with the coding, but there isn't any regular programmer on my team, just consultants. The thing is, I've been playtesting the game again and again for the last year and a half, but my poor spaghetti code seems to be confusing Renpy and, even though my consultants and I couldn't find any bugs, they still appeared every time I pushed a new build of the game -_-

That's the reason the launch of the game was delayed for a year. I give you all my word that I'll never try to make a stats-raising game again, and even less a stats-raising hybrid like Night and Day: from now on, my games will be classic visual novels, with affection points and perhaps some minigames, but that's all. I don't want to spend months of my life chasing bugs ever again!

That said, the error in Ferdinand's route that affected the last two weeks of the game (that is, from the moment Paul decides to give himself a deadline of two weeks) is now fixed.

For the rest of the bugs reported... I haven't been able to reproduce them, but I'll keep going over them. If you want to send a save with your error to my email (ertal77@hotmail.com) that would be really, really useful, but of course it's up to you, and I promise to keep working on making Night and Day the best possible BL visual novel it can be.

With love,

Ertal

Changelog for version 1.2

Happy New Year's Eve!!

Here's the update I promised, right before the end of the year! I hope all those pesky bugs are now fixed: I'll open a post here on the Steam page, where you can send any other thing you find that needs to be fixed (although let's cross our fingers so that isn't necessary).

I'm not sure if this new version will be compatible with your saves; it should be, but anyway, if you previously found errors in your gameplay, it would be advisable to uninstall the previous version and delete the folder on C/: user/AppData/Roaming/Renpy/NightandDay, before installing the new version 1.2. Remember you can use the "Skip" option to progress quickly to your previous point in the game in case you need to start anew.

Changelog:

- The Open Dyslexic font has been adjusted to the right size so the text always fits the textbox.

- The "return" button on the close-up images of the gallery has been moved to the bottom right corner and simplified to just black letters without a background, so it doesn't distract from the images.

- Added an in-game warning when there are only two weeks left to finish the game (as Paul's internal monologue, to be as little intrusive as possible).

- Removed a potentially offensive sentence.

- Added a short afterscene for Emile's intimate scene.

- Checked all the instances where Ferdinand's route might have inconsistencies after March 9.

- Made the dates screen disappear if the player decides not to select anything.

- Lowered two points in the requirements to successfully join the exhibition.

- Added extra days, April 4th to 9th, so the players have more days to go on dates, give presents, and get all the scenes with the love interest that lead to the good ending.

- Added three minigames.

I think that's all! As you can see, I haven't been idle this past month XDD

Night and Day is now available on Steam!

...And it's 10% off for a week, so grab it while it's hot 😉

Enjoy Paul's adventures in 1950s Paris, as he meets fellow dreamers trying to make a name for themselves as painters, writers, or jazz musicians! Will he get more attached to the Haitian serious jazz club barista, the cheeky Romani guitar player, his disenchanted but well-established art teacher, or the moody wannabe-writer/ art model? It's up to you!

We are in the betatesting phase!

Exciting news! Two weeks ago, the beta build of Night and Day was sent to the betatesters, so I'm currently fixing small bugs and adding suggested features, in addition to editing the script.

The game will be released as soon as we've got enough feedback and the testers give us the go!

Meanwhile, you may have seen the banner on top of our game page: yes, we are taking part in the Gayming LIVE Festival! Check out all the incredible games included here: http://bit.ly/GaymingLIVEIndies There are sales, livestreams, and getting to know many upcoming games!

Update about the current state of the game

Hello, and first of all: Merry Christmas from Ertal Games, for the ones of you who celebrate it!

Let me apologize for the lack of updates of these last months, but now that I've returned to my full-time job, juggling it with family obligations and game developing has proven more testing than I expected. But fear not, the game is steadily worked on, and not dropped at all! I've seen some BL games on Kickstarter going on radio silence lately, but this won't be the case of Night and Day: trust me when I tell you that, when you don't get updates, it's just because I have no energies left after work and coding, but not because we aren't making progress.

About the current state of the game: the art is 100% done, including the mini-game art assets, and all the love interests scenes are also written. What is delaying the production is coding everything together without major bugs: the structure my programmer did for the game ended up being too restrictive for what I wanted in the VN, so very little of it is actually used, so I had to wing it, with the help of the programmer when I get stuck at something.

These latest weeks I've been coding the date scenes, which I think it's a cute addition to the storyline.

See you in the next update! I'll try to make it sooner this time, I promise!

We have a brand new opening video!

The game has been almost finished for a while, but I'm having some issues with the coding that are currently being worked on. The only art left for Night and Day is all small art assets for the minigames and shadows for the background characters, all of them already commissioned and in the works. And the main script is done, just waiting until the code is fixed and the scenes can be inserted in their place.

The backers who opted for an early access tier will get next week a build of the first four weeks of the game, until the moment you are locked into one of the love interest's routes (which is the code I'll finish fixing within this weekend).

But, for now, let me share with you all the opening video! Original song by Fricochet, featuring MyëVe.
