Night Call

Introducing: The Long Way Home

The Long Way Home is a significant update to Night Call, introducing new content and reworking existing features to further improve the experience. One of our main goals with this update is to address much of the excellent feedback we've received since the official release of the game.

Free Roaming Mode

Investigating a murder is tough work. Sometimes you just want to roam the streets and enjoy some interesting conversations. Free Roaming is a highly requested feature that'll let you do just that. Its the perfect mode for drivers looking to fill up their Passidex!

Revamped Passenger System

Night Call features a large cast of characters, many of which have multiple scenes to experience. One of the problems players often ran in to, was that they'd repeatedly meet the same passengers over and over, instead of ones they hadn't seen. The team have addressed this with some major changes in how we handle passengers in the game:
- If there are passengers you haven't met yet, at least 1 will always show up on the map.
- Greatly increased the amount of available passengers on the map at any time to allow for more player choice.
- Avaialable passengers that you've already met, and had a particular scene with, will be grayed out on the map. You may still want to pick them up to replay the scene in a different way to unlock new entries in your Passidex though.
- Suspects in an active investigation are now highlighted in gold on the map, so you won't mistake them for regular folks.
- Reworked the spawn rates of passengers across the board to better balance rare and common passengers.

Speaking of passengers...

The Long Way Home introduces 15 new passengers to pick up:
Ada: a robot escaping her lab.
Milo: a US spy too busy touring bars.
Chantal: a woman using your cab to fall asleep
Amira: an e-sport champion who may or may not have ruined her career.
Nadia & Yves: a couple on the brink of destruction because of their age difference.
Myrtille: a weird homeless woman with riddles.
Xavier: a… vigilante?
Roksana: a… well… ghost hunter??
Alph: a... seriously… a weird dude in a trenchcoat?
Lola (*): a British citizen who escaped the UK because of Brexit.
Nathalie (*): another taxi driver.
Jim (*): a mysterious passenger who looks a lot like a deceased rock star.
Melchior (*): a young man obsessed with cybersecurity.
Berenice (*): a Parisian woman whose night ended abruptly.

New passengers marked with (*) are penned by guest writers.

New Language Added: German

With over 250,000 words, localizing Night Call is no small mission. Thanks to the amazing work of our translation and proofreading partners, we're proud to introduce another language to the game!

Fixes, fixes and fixes.

It wouldn't be an update without some fixes, and rest assured several bugs were harmed in the development of The Long Way Home.

So when is it coming out?

We invite you to step back in to your taxi on April 17 🚖

Night Call wins the ‘Best Indie Game’ 2020 Pegasus Award!

We are beyond excited, humbled and grateful to have been honored by L’Académie des Arts et Techniques du Jeu Vidéo with the ‘Best Indie Game’ 2020 Pegasus award!

We’ve poured three years of our time, effort, heart and soul into making Night Call and it has been an emotional rollercoaster. We set out to tell stories inspired by raw humanity in all its forms, stories that matter, and weren’t always sure if anyone would understand or appreciate our vision; in fact we were certain that many people would hate it! So, to receive recognition in this form is so wonderful and more than we ever expected to receive.

We would like to thank all the nominees for their contributions to the craft; this award is just as much yours as it is ours. Please keep filling the world with your great art!

And to every fan and player out there, from the bottom of our hearts to all of you – THANK YOU!

Patch 1.0.1 Out Now - Resolution Fixes & Launcher

Drivers,

Yesterday we released Night Call, a game that has been in development for several years. We don't see launch as the end of that development though, but rather the beginning of something new.

Over the coming weeks and months we'll be working to improve and expand Night Call. We'll be listening closely to your feedback, which will be instrumental in helping to shape the future of the game.

The team is currently focused on fixing some of the bugs that unfortunately made it in to the game, and making design and balance tweaks based on your feedback. We're also working on a German translation for the game which will be out soon.

There are also some secret things being worked on, which we'll share more about at a later date.

For now though, here's 1.0.1!

Changelog

Content
- Added Game Launcher on Startup
- Added option to boot without Launcher

Fixes
- Fixed an issue where the game would crash if resolution was changed before loading a game
- Fixed an issue where the game could lock up when changing resolution
- Fixed an issue where clues would appear unintentionally

Cheers

Discover the true City of Lights through the eyes of over 70 passengers

Modern day Paris. It’s chilly outside, the cold biting the tips of your fingers as you take another drag of a cigarette. With a flick of your fingers, ash falls to the ground alongside drops of rain. It hasn’t let up for days now. You switch on the lamp light of your cab and get ready to begin your shift, who will end up in the back tonight?

https://youtu.be/NeNfS5qkflE

We look at Night Call as a strong narrative experience with light resource management and investigation mechanics. Its power is certainly in the stories being told by the 70+ passengers you’ll encounter in the back of your cab. Some passengers detail whimsical lighthearted moments, others peculiar and thought provoking, and a few will come into the backseat with very dark accounts exploring themes not often seen in games. Night Call is not one story but rather a collective narrative from all these characters who have something to share and contributing to the greater investigation that you are now charged with being a part of. Will you find the killer running rampant in Paris?

You may have been coerced into aiding in this investigation, but the backseat of a cab is a confessional and its driver a person told the most intimate secrets before letting their passenger go and never seeing them again. Use this skill to bring a little bit of peace to the streets of Paris or it may be you who takes the fall. Start your shift, it’s going to be a long night.
