Alpha v06 is just around the corner! This is a major update and I'm thankful for your patience so far! This time I'm introducing the Rogue Wings' Open Universe: a living and breathing star system full of friendlies and foes, planets, moons, asteroid fields and space stations for you to explore! This is how you will now enter missions and take part as the story progresses.
A word of caution: this star system is under attack by the evil Supremacy forces, and each space lane jump might trigger an encounter! In the most dangerous areas you'll face drone squadrons, pirate ships and even Supremacy Battleships!
The new flight model is also coming together really well! This is a complete overhaul over the original Rogue Wings flight model, and it brings more responsive turning and the ability to roll with ease. Flying now is way more satisfying, as your ship will respond a lot better to your commands.
You will also notice major performance improvements. A lot of the game base code went through some serious optimization and I can now throw a lot more enemies in and increase the scale of combat considerably!
That's it for today! It's almost time to jump into the pilot's seat!
Recap - January 2018
Hello fellow pilots,
The new year is here and with it comes a new update announcement for Nightstar: Rogue Wings! Today we’re taking a quick look at a few of the new features you should expect to see on the upcoming v06!
Flight Model Overhaul
The flight model has been completely redone and that means some change in Rogue Wings’ core gameplay. With responsive turning and the ability to to roll with ease, flying should now be way more satisfying. Full loops are now possible thanks to the gimbal-lock free flight model.
Weapons And Upgrades
Following the community’s suggestions I was able to come up with a few improvements for v06. You will now be able to find, craft and equip an extensive variety of weapons - from projectile-based machineguns to Star Wars-like laser guns. The different weapons will cover a broad range of different gameplay styles and will give you the right tools to fight the Supremacy. Get ready for some serious PEW PEW!
Visuals and Performance
As we’re moving closer to the full release of Nightstar: Rogue Wings, a few performance improvements have taken place and that allows for the game to run smoother than ever. This is an ongoing improvement and you can expect a few more patches to the performance from now on. This update also brings a completely redesigned GUI and extensive updates to the player’s ship model.
There’s a lot more to be said about the Alpha v06, and as you may have noticed, I’m keeping some surprises for my next update. Please stay tuned! I’ll see you on the air!

Realistic space shooters are fun, but sometimes we just want to kill a massive robotic space worm!
Here's a sneak peek at the Tunnel Worm, another monstrosity created by the machines to bring doom to us all.
Today we made the new experimental Beta branch available to the public!
So if you want to check out what’s coming to the next version of ROGUE WINGS go to the game’s properties here on Steam and select 'experimental branch' under 'Beta'.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
0.41 HOTFIX! Addressing the Lock.
Hi all! Dev here.
You'll notice Steam downloading a small patch for NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings today. That's the hotfix for 0.41, or how I like to call it "bye-bye auto-follow".
As indie developers, we're experimenting with different game mechanics and trying out new formulas. Sometimes, that results in us finding really cool new gameplay elements that completely changes the game (Rage Attack!), but sometimes we miss the mark. This is what happened to the lock-on mechanic.
Now we're back to regular aiming, and the player's ship will no longer auto-follow enemies when target locked.
Please give it a try and let me know your thoughts!
NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings v0.41a is out!
Hello pilots! Dev here. It's Steam Summer Sale time and to celebrate we're putting out a fresh update for NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings! For those who are following the game from up close, you have already probably noticed some of the changes on a stealth update that happened a few days ago. Now, let's take a quick look at what's changed on v0.41a.
Controller, controller, controller. Again, I'm working hard to polish the controls. You'll notice that some keys have changed, as we're getting ready to implement the key mapper. Also, there's a quick control reminder on the beginning of each level, and it also shows up when you switch from keyboard to gamepad. On that note, gamepad support is still experimental and there'll be a patch very soon that improves the use of xbox and playstation 4 controllers.
New level! The 4th level is in! This is our favorite level so far because of how varied the objectives are. The level is still being tested, so expect some bugs. I'll be polishing this level in the near future, so expect a patch for that too.
New cockpit is in! The new cockpit is now functional, and now it's possible to use the free-look key when inside the ship.
New LASER weapon We've changed how the disruptors work. Now, all disruptor weapons are laser based, and piercing rounds are projectile based.
Upgrades! Super cool new upgrades are in. You can pick these up during levels, and they can give you different weapons for a certain amount of time (or until its ammo runs out). These upgrades can also replenish your shield, health, or give you an extra life. If anyone can find out what game inspired us for these upgrades, feel free to comment below!
Orbital Blockade level updates As always, there are a few updates on every level, but the Orbital Blockade is the STAR of v0.41a. Take a look at it in-game, it's looking gorgeous!
General bug fixes Ah, Early Access. We're bug hunting like crazy, and a lot of the things that were bothering us and the players are now fixed! Yay for smooth gameplay!
That's it for today! Let Steam download the updates for you, and give the game a try. And if you are interested on this project and still didn't pick it up, there's a 10% OFF discount right now! So go for it. And don't forget to participate on the community forums here on Steam, we're always there listening to feedback and talking to players.
Cheers, and have fun!
New cockpit coming to v0.4!
Hello my fellow pilots!
I'm super excited to finally show you this. The new cockpit model is in, with free-camera mode, instruments, special effects, and lots of cool things. Pilots can now experience space and planetary arcade combat from the first person perspective :)

NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings v0.3a is out!
Hi all! Dev here. Today is a big day, as I'm pushing the 0.3 update to main branch and it comes with many, many new things.
I was actually planning on sending this update only to some game journalists I contacted, BUT I decided to release it to the general public because, you know, this is Early Access! :)
So let's cut straight to the change log (compact version). Here's what changed:
Clean post processing. This was a big one, requested by many. Now the game doesn't look like it's being played through a dirty pair of goggles!
Performance increase. You'll notice some frame rate gain as a result from many small tweaks on many things.
Massive controller update. Yep, controllers changed BIG TIME. I could write an entire changelog just on this aspect, but I'll try to keep this short. At this moment, I strongly recommend playing Rogue Wings on mouse + keyboard. That being said, xbox and playstation controllers should be working mostly fine. You might still have to use the mouse to interact with menus, and this is something I'm planning on fixing in the future. There's also [B]EXPERIMENTAL
support for Flightsticks. Try it at your own rist - it's still very, very basic and unreliable.
<*>Gameplay improvements. The most arcade-y movements of all times are finally in. You can now double tap A or D to roll, double tap W to PHASE and double tap S to perform an 180 turn. This changes the game's dynamic immensely and is also a lot of fun. This leads us to the next point...
<*>Balancing. Because of all the gameplay and control changes, and basically because now it's easier to control your ship, I made enemies a little more aggressive. If someone shoots a homing missile at you, you will have to do something to get out of its way. My favorite is using the Phase, followed by an 180 turn to counter-attack. Your wingmen also deal much more damage now.
<*>New hero ship! You probably noticed how the entire promotional material changed since the last update. I've pulled the trigger on a new ship model, and now we are officially no longer using assets from the Unreal Engine's Marketplace! I personally love the new ship.
<*>RAGE! You are a bad-ass pilot looking for revenge and stuff. So you obviously can accumulate RAGE and unleash it upon your enemies. Watch them look at you in the eye while you ROCKET-JUMP out of your cockpit with a massive rocket launcher in your hands. Fire up to 5 missiles directly into your target, or use the Secondary Weapon button to launch the big one. Keep an eye on your RAGE meter, right next to your health bar, and make sure to press SPACE to use it when it's filled up.
<*>Menus. There's an entire new Options Menu, and that's still a work in progress. Make sure to take a look at the control layouts for reference. When in doubt, press pause and go to options. Scroll down a bit to see the keyboard layout and learn what each key does.
OK, there's still a lot more to add to this list, but these are the most important changes. Make sure to try the FREE CAMERA by holding LEFT ALT and moving your mouse. Also, please remember this is only the first big update since the Early Access launch, so if you encounter any bug, have gameplay suggestions or concerns, or feel like saying anything about the game, please come to the Community Hub forums here on Steam. I'm always there answering players' questions.
