Nocked! True Tales of Robin Hood

Desktop or iOS?

Hear ye! Nocked! is available on both Steam and iOS - what's the difference (in game and price)?

While both versions have the same story content, mobile is lite and fast - no music, and only the header art above the text for atmosphere. On desktop, you also get atmospheric sound effects and music, and the expanded play screen with location and character art.

Do you want to read the game, quiet and private, or do you want a full multimedia experience? The choice is yours!

(Since this is important info for consumers, I’m bumping it back up to the top of the announcements page).

Nominate Nocked for the Steam Awards!

The new, complete version of Nocked has been out now for nearly 18 month (and boy, 2020, what a year); which means it’s still eligible for the Labor of Love aware from Steam. 1 man, 1 million words; over 4 years of work by the artist, and 2 years from the composer - himself brought on when I decided to move (and expand) the game from iOS to Desktop, a 2+ years process all on its own. We were a small, merry band for a time — even if we’ve since gone our separate ways, we’d love your help in spreading the word so future gamers can read, listen, and live the legend of Robin Hood.

Further Reading, now Free!

Hear ye!

I wrote 3 novels before Nocked! (and a 4th is in the works). If you'd like some quaran-reading, they're free as ebooks from Smashwords until the end of May as part of the Authors Give Back promotion. Get 'em while you can!

Two tales of urban fantasy, and one swashbuckling sandpunk epic can be yours; but act fast!

1,001 True Tales of Robin Hood

Huzzah! We've officially sold one-thousand and one copies of Nocked; that's 1,001 true tales of Robin Hood wandering the wide world. Thank you!

If you've played the game, please leave a review and let your fellow Steam community (and myself) know what you think of the game. As always, I'm happy to receive messages and answer questions either through Steam or over e-mail, and I check the forums most days.

Achievements were one of the elements that didn't make the cut in the final version of Nocked; there are so many corner cases and little nuggets to find, and I didn't want to distract from the experience of creating your own story. However, with this milestone, there are a few nuggets I'd like to share with you (with minimal spoilers):

  • There are 5 major (and many minor) movie references in the game, from at least 4 different Robin Hood films. Can you find them all?
  • Our artist, Amanda Spaid, drew herself into the game as Cook.
  • There's a hidden fairy you can meet on the forest raids. She's named after my great-grandmother.
  • The wedding march is the same music (and same fiddler) who played at my own wedding!

Additionally exciting, you can now buy the Nocked Soundtrack separately, without owning the game. Give the gift of music, and play on!

Games may be in my future, but for the moment, I'm back to writing novels. A draft of my next book on sky pirates and space mummies is almost complete!

As we look forward to the next 1,001 True Tales of Robin Hood, I want to thank you all again; for playing, for reading, for imagining.

Nocked now works on Mac OS again.

Mac Users rejoice. Nocked once again works on your devices, including the new Catalina OS.

Bulletins, Notices, and Quality of Life

Hear ye! We just pushed a "quality of life" update. Hopefully, we haven't broken anything in the process (though be sure to ping us if we did)!

Not sure which faction the Sheriff is targeting this season? Wonder no more!

Misplaced your to-do list? Check with Friar Tuck!

Also, we've added some compression to the audio files to help with the memory error some of you are seeing, but the end-user perception should be unnoticeable (and full audio fidelity is always available with the Soundtrack!). And as usual, a host of minor typos and continuity fixes. Thanks for everyone who's chimed in!

Fight Club Crib Notes

A small update with some additional text changes, and a number of text & display tweaks when you encounter battle in the woods. Hopefully, this will help with clarity, and not obfuscate! (And hopefully, as usual, I didn't break anything. But tell me if I did -- or even, if you have a better idea! After 8 hours of fiddling, I'm still not sure I got it quite right...)

Changing loves

Sometimes, the truth of a character takes time to evolve through repeated writing and community feedback. It was pointed out, recently, that there was no GxG exclusive romance option - a piece of story balance I strove to keep to during the writing of the game, and yet clearly overlooked. Fortunately, on reflection, I realized the answer was in front of me all along! There is now one in the forest who held her heart in reserve, and can now be properly courted should you have the patience and insight.
