Beta Patch Notes for 11/04/2024

Hello players!

Following the previous changes, this new patch adds some more changes going in the same general direction and iterations on those previous changes to ensure everything is balanced.


Balancing



Clans


After the previous patch's changes to collaborative actions among allies, now being rewarded with positive relations gains, we're also adding those gains to some specific collaborative actions, like the rat clan healing its allies or the bear clan using its production bonuses in their zones.

Rat


  • When healing ally units, the rat clan improves their relations with this clan.
  • Last Stand Shaman ability (Weapon Forge) effect is now capped to a maximum +300% Dmg increase.
  • Burning a Sheep as Rat clan now provides 60 days of Purification Pyre (instead of 90 previously).

Bear


  • When Kaija and/or Borgild provide an ally zone with the Kindred Spirit production bonus (fame 200), they improve their relations with this clan.
  • Winter Festival now reduces the clan units’ food consumption during winter by -30% instead of boosting food production.

Eagle


  • Feeding a Sheep to the Hawks now calls a maximum of 3 Hawks on the Boneyard (limiting the max amount of resources possible to obtain in this way).

Raven


Following the nerfs made to the Raven raids, and especially the potential relic harass made with the previous patch, we're pretty happy with how tuned down the raid toxicity can now feel, but we're a bit worried about those changes we've also reduced a lot of the appeal, not necessarily of the raids themselves, but of the relic. With this patch, we're trying to balance those things by making the relic more of an assured return on investment for the Raven without making it at the detriment of the targeted clan.

  • Relic - new additional effect:
    Raids now collect resources from the zone when they arrive rather than when they leave (making sure to obtain the resources of the raid even if the whole raid dies).
  • Raids
    • Silos now also count as a source of Food when the zone is raided.
    • Each mercenary killed during the raid increases the raid cooldown of the zone by +20 seconds (previously +30).

Conquest


With this patch, the new Conquest Battles of the Owl Clan are now available to play in the beta!!

  • Titanomachy
    All clans start with a Guardian of Realms. If two guardians meet, they have to fight to the death. When a guardian dies, its clan is eliminated.
    Make yours the best and defeat the others before they become too strong.


  • Age of Vampires
    Your warchief and the Erlking are the two last remaining nightwalkers. There can only be one left. Kill it before he gets to you.

  • Battle for Midgard
    Yggdrasil is under attack from many realms. Portals are awakening and armies are coming to destroy it. Resist the assaults and close the portals to end this.

Beta Patch Notes for 04/04/2024

Hello players!

Following your feedback, we’ve made a few new adjustments to the new foes and map generation. We also want to take this beta to introduce new balancing changes and tweaks to some clans and to the way you gain positive relations with ally clans.



Foes


We’ve noticed many of you expressing disappointment at the fact that the Bear and Boar units are more or less equivalent, with the same overall power and behavior. We’ll try to address that by making the Boar a stronger and more aggressive unit than the Bear, so both represent different challenges.

With those new changes, the bear becomes the more resistant tanky unit, requiring lots of damage to go down, while the Boar is the more aggressive unit, dealing heavy blows your units must tank long enough to kill the creature.

    • 15 Atk (12 previously)
    • 110 Hp (100 previously)
    • 8 Def (8.5 previously)
    • 5 Moves Speed (3.5 previously)



Map generation


After the previous changes we made to the wild units spawned in the zones around the clan Town Halls, some of you have (rightfully) pointed out that having the same power spread across 3 zones or 4-5 zones did not result in equivalent starts in terms of difficulty. So, we adjusted the way the foes are spawned to take the number of zones available to the clan into account.

Spawn hostility


  • The overall number of hostile units close to a clan’s Town Hall will now also depend on the number of zones in contact with the clan's starting zone.



Balancing



Diplomacy


Those changes are based on feedback made during the previous balancing patch we discussed with players on Discord. However, we didn’t have the time to implement and test them properly before the previous patch's release, so we’re pushing them now.
The idea behind those changes is to reward actions that benefit ally clans with a gain of relations with them, especially for actions taken by support clans like Squirrel and Stoat.

General
  • When feasting for their team, a clan improves its relationship with all the affected ally clans. (Relation is passively enhanced for the entire length of the Feast)


Squirel

  • Meals prepared by the Squirrel for their allies improve their relationship with the affected clans. (Passively increases while the Meal is ongoing)

  • Rumor-Mongering now also increases all relation gains by +100%. (Offering Well, Trade-Routes, Gift-Routes, Rumor-Mongering passive effects, and Meals).

  • Rumor-Mongering passive relation gains have been readjusted to remain identical to the previous value even when multiplied with this new effect.


Stoat
  • When collecting a Levy for their team, the Stoat clan improves their relationship with all the affected clans. (Passively increases while the Levy is ongoing)


Horse


Yes, we’re making changes to the Horse clan. I know we said repeatedly we wouldn’t, but here we are. Do not expect anything too crazy, though. Our goal with those changes is mainly to reduce the gap between a good and a bad Horse start. We want to ensure the clan gets its warchiefs fast enough to avoid falling behind in a no-ruin, no-shipwreck situation. While not snowballing like crazy and becoming unstoppable in a situation with two ruins or more.

  • Both Warchiefs now cost only 100 Kröwns to recruit (150 previously).
  • Horse clan when exploring Ruins and Shipwrecks will only get half of the Kröwns any other clan would get.
  • But they also extract ore from those.
    • Exploring a Ruin provides +5 Stones.
    • Exploring a Shipwreck provides +5 Iron.


Raven


Since the previous changes on the Raven, we’ve seen many complaints about the toxicity of the “Giant spam” - a move consisting of building the Raven Relic and constantly sending raids of just 1 mercenary + 1 giant. Thus keeping the raid cooldown at its lowest while harassing and dealing massive blows to the targeted clan(s) economy.
We agree with this sentiment, and we want to make it less efficient while also allowing the targeted clans to punish the Raven by countering and fighting back against the raids.

  • Each mercenary killed during a raid increases the raid cooldown of the zone by +30 seconds.

  • Sons of Hrymr (giants) power depends on the number of mercenaries sent with them.
    • Sent with a full raid of 6 mercenaries, their power will be the same as currently.
    • Sent with only 1 mercenary, they have only a fraction of their max resistance.
      • 50 HP (instead of 100 max)
      • 6 Def (instead of 12 max)

  • Killing a Son of Hymir sent on a raid increases the raid cooldown of the zone by +120 seconds.


Ox


Not really a balancing change, but more of a quality-of-life tweak we forgot to allow for the City Building of the Ox.

  • After unlocking City Building, zones can be improved even if they do not contain the maximum number of buildings.



Improvements


Many optimizations made to betther the game fluidity

AI

  • Improved the defense behavior.
  • If the AI is attacked by a player, its military units stop whatever they are doing, and go defend right away.
  • If the AI is attacked by foes, it use the right amount of civilian to defend itself.
  • Improved a lot the Eagle AI : it stays on a recently cleaned zone to benefit from the boneyard heal + it can scout its treasures.



Bugfixes

  • Kingdom - Guardian’s military path send militia

Claws & Jaws preview - Wild foes

Hello Vikings!

With the next update new animal foes will appear on your way through victory!
Those are long awaited faces so you’ll be able to face them in your games.

This new threat is already available in the public beta branch for you to test!




Fox and Boar



The forests of Northgard are wild and untamed. While some of you might have crossed new foes during their conquest, it is time for the Fox and the Boar to spread around Northgard!

New map generation



  • New system for an equal confrontation with the foes around
  • More foes types on the map!

Coming with this update, the map generation for the biomes will be reworked to ensure an equal confrontation with your environment, even in FFA. There will also be more diversity in term of foes on the map (bye to the all-draugr middle ground)!



The Beta and the AI



If you want to explore those new features, they are added to the public beta branch for you to experiment on and provide a concrete opinion on it!

The AI Behavior has been adjusted in this branch. It now has a better defense against the environment and is less lost when cut from its territory. It is only one part of the current rework, the AI behavior in Extreme and its aggressive potential will be addressed in another beta patch!

Balancing


Following the first changes we’ve introduced regarding Ox and Lynx, we kept working on the part we wanted to tweak on those two clans specifically.

Ox


Since our rework of military unit camp bonuses, Ox was weakened by the change on the Warriors, so we want to give it this strength back.

We also globally want to reward a more aggressive playstyle, making earnings like Warcraft stronger, but only rewarding fighting and no longer passive XP production.



  • Military Training
    (in addition to existing bonus)
    Each camp upgrade provides an additional +5% Attack Power to the associated unit
  • Ferocious Charge
    Has been changed to only focus on Warriors but make their weapon forge entirely free.
  • Warcraft
    Lore and Fame is now only gained on kills, but the values have been increased.
    50% of Military XP converted into Lore - instead of 30% previously.
    20% of Military XP converted into Fame - instead of 10% previously.


Lynx


With those new changes we tried to make Lynx start a bit more comfortable, especially its early clearing, giving it more ways to remain outside its territory without being penalized for it.

We also wanted to reaffirm Mielikki’s role as master huntress, making her less related to managing the clan economy and being inside your territory, and giving her instead more reasons to be outside in the wild hunting with her lynxes.




    Start-with

  • Hunters have a native +10% production bonus.

    Lore


  • Spoils of Plenty
    The lures can now be placed from the building menu and no longer require Mielikki to do it.

    (The +10% production bonus to Hunters on Lures is removed because it is now a global start-with)


    Fame


  • Fame 200 - Mythical lure
    The mythical lure can now be placed from the building menu and no longer requires Mielikki to do it.
    Each animal kill decreases the next Feast cost by -7.5% - instead of -5% previously.


    Path of the hunter


  • Caring Sibling
    The heal on Brundr and Kaelinn now triggers outside your territory if Mielikki is in the zone with them.

  • Sibling Rivalry
    Brundr food production now works everywhere and no longer just inside your territory.

  • The Wise One
    Mielikki lore production is no longer restricted to your territory only.

Hello Vikings

In order to answer the demands of the community to participate in the development of the game, we intend on having a persistent open beta to let you experience the update on your computer and tell us if it's working as intended!




The content



The content on those updates can go from the next addition to the game to a planned balancing patch.

We do not intend on using the beta for every content we'll release, or change it after some feedback, but we know some of them deserve to be appreciated by the community to ensure the best condition when released in the live version of the game!

Content in this branch is experimental and what be change at the will of the devs and, if possible, in accordance with the overall feedback we receive from you!

Your report



We intend on bringing a new system of bug reporting in-game, which, funnily enough, will be first experimented here!
With that button, you will be able to send us every information on a bug you got and include your save. The system will deal with sending us your seed and other info directly!

On the discord, we re-open the Open Beta channel to allow you to send some suggestion and feedback on what is being tested. If you want to participate in full time, see you there!





How to join



To have access to the beta, here is the way to go:

  1. Right click Northgard in Steam and select properties
  2. Select Betas from the left side tabs
  3. Click on the scrolling option in "Beta Participation" and choose
    Public beta - Test the latest addition to the game!



As you figured, this beta will evolve with time, we'll take feedback on it if you have some! You can reach us easily on Reddit or on our social media like Twitter/X and Facebook!
We'll also create a space to share some feedbacks on Steam and Discord so be sure to check there if you want to become an active participant of this branch!

Hello vikings!

With this new beta you will get access to the latest changes and additions we’ve been working on regarding Ranked Multiplayer, Conquest, UI, Balancing, and more!

Join the beta, test those features and let us know what you think!
The more players join the beta, and the more tests and reports we have, the sooner we can detect and anticipate eventual problems and adjustments needed that might arise from those new changes.

Ranked Multiplayer



Since we’ve reworked the Ranked Multiplayer with the addition of the lobby finder, we’ve seen a lot of feedback and requests for improvements and new possibilities to be added. Although we cannot do everything and not all at once, we still want to develop and grow the feature in the long term and with this update comes the first batch of improvements we wanted to add based on your feedback

  • It is now possible to queue for multiple types of games.
  • Addition of a “join” pop-up to make sure players joining a lobby are not AFK.
  • Players no longer start at 300 GPs in Stone league, but start as unranked and will get a rank and GP amount after they played 5 Ranked multiplayer games.
  • Ready Button has been added to the lobby. (Game will launch when all players are ready or when the timer ends)

Disconnect Feature



If at the beginning of a team game, a player fails to connect, they have 5 minutes to still join.
After this time, they are considered as defeated, and the other players from the team have a few minutes to concede as well to end the game, without losing GPs. In order to quit and look for another game.

If a player disconnects during the game, they also have 5 minutes to reconnect, after that this will count as a defeat and this player loses GPs.
But the other players of the team will have a few minutes to concede without losing GPs themselves. (To avoid being punished for a team-mate leaving and forced to play a 2v3)
The opponent team will still gain GPs as this will still be counted as a victory on their side.

If they do not concede during this time, the game considers that they chose to keep playing anyway and gains/loss of GPs will behave as usual depending on win or defeat. [/expand]

Conquest



We’ve reworked the Conquest menu to make it easier to play co-op with your friends, and we’ve buffed the general bonuses to make them more interesting. Also to avoid, especially on extreme difficulty having only some bonuses being chosen above all others.

  • All general Conquest bonuses have been buffed to be more impacting.

UI


Whenever we can, we keep on improving the visuals and UI of the game to make them as clear and as shiny as we can.

General


  • At the end of a game new victory animations are now played, highlighting the type of victory achieved.
  • From the clan selection screen it is now possible to open the Lore-Tree of each clan.
  • From this screen you can collapse start-with descriptions of clans.
  • In-game you can now check clans Fame titles by hovering the fame icon and not the icon of the clan. (Start-with bonuses are still accessible by hovering the clan icon)
  • In-game windows UI have been reworked.
  • Background illustration animation improvements.
  • In-game camera has been reworked to allow for closer zoom-in.


Stoat


We’ve received feedback about Stoat Clan duchies and levies sometimes being difficult to keep track of, so we’ve designed a new clan-specific UI to hopefully address this problem.

  • A new custom UI has been added for the Stoat Clan, highlighting the different Duchies the clan has, and allowing for direct check and trigger of Levies.

Balancing


Ox and Lynx clan seem to be less played and less competitive in the current multiplayer environment so we’ve made some small changes to help them compete.

Lynx


  • Trackers no longer lose some of their buffs when using non-ranged attacks.

Ox


  • Torfin recruitment price is reduced from 250 to 150 Kröwns.


On the other hand, Rat seem quite strong at the moment, and following the previous changes we’ve made to camp upgrades bonuses, we’ve decided to also address shaman camps and to slightly decrease the health gain they provide.

Rat


  • Shaman Camps upgrade now gives +2.5% Health instead of +5%.


We’ve seen feedback on passive heal abilities being very strong on big armies as they always heal the same value no matter the warband size. We agree with this sentiment and have made some adjustments to correct this:

Eagle


  • Boneyard heal effect is now divided among the wounded units in the zone. (With a minimum and maximum heal value per unit)
  • If the zone is in combat the heal is no longer active.


Snake



  • Rapacious Exploitation heal effect on scorched-earth zones is now divided among the wounded units in the zone. (With a minimum and maximum heal value per unit)
  • If the zone is in combat the heal is no longer active.


Global


  • Mjolnir (Relic) damages have been multiplied by x2. (And yes, it really does deal damages)

Hello Everyone!

After a good month working on the previous update as well as planning the incoming year, we can now present what awaits you this year in Northgard!
You can expect a new way of handling the updates, and some content added thanks to the feedback and suggestion of the active players of the community.

THE COMING UPDATES



Rivals & Allies



As stated last year, the Lobby Finder was tested in Multiplayer and we received a lot of feedback and suggestions to improve on the current system. That is why our first update will focus on this as well as other improvements on the UI that were long requested.

More news will be shared soon, and you can already set yourself for an open beta incoming later this month to test it all out before it goes live!






Claws & Jaws | Trade & Prestige



Answering the feedback on the recent updates, we decided to split the DLC releases in two key moments. Those moments will be sorted in two times.
At first the community update, adding new content for everyone to enjoy for free
Then, nurturing on the new content of the last update, a new clan for everyone to claim and master

For Claws & Jaws, expect a focus on the wild beasts of Northgard, and a new clan being as feral and aggressive as them.

For Trade & Prestige, we’ll look into a way to enhance the experience of the victory of the same name. Giving it more depth and adding a new challenge on it. This will be added with several enhancements around that subject and with a new clan focused on the economy.






The future of conquest?



As some of you might have guessed with the annual survey, we know a lot of you care for the Conquest and wanted to address some of your desire toward an evolution of this mod!
The survey showed a deep care for the actual format of the conquest as well as a desire to discover a new format for those missions. With that in mind, we’ll come back on this during the summer with more information for you to have.
