It’s been a while since we talked about Northgard in itself. The game has been out for years now and we recently passed a total of 4 million players with Northgard in their hands!

7 years worth of updates



Since the release of the game in 2017, there has been a lot of additions made to answer the community’s demand. Those implementations changed the game for the better and some of them are now indissociable with the game. See the relics, the diplomacy and the neutral factions...

Another one of these free major updates was the Conquest. A new game mode with a lot of replayability and a new co-op experience for a good part of you to enjoy! With our next update, we aim to achieve the same experience of rediscovering the game. We’ll be sure to include you with a beta, but that’s a topic for later down that news…

A new aspect for the game



As a part of the celebration, we decided to give a brand-new look on Northgard Steam page! This includes new screenshots, new presentations, and a new trailer!

This trailer is the celebration of what has been done after all this time since the release. To reflect the game as it currently stands, with new graphics, new game modes, all!

For the next update



On the next update, we want to state again, this mode made for cooperation in PVE like the Conquest is. A lot of you want to play with more players. The new game mode is made for that! You will be able to have up to 4 players in total working alongside each other in a PVE mode!

If you are interested, be sure to stay tune all over the week! News about the game will be shared until this Thursday for the launch of the Open Beta! We'll then be sure to cover all this in a future stream on Friday!

We’ve seen players expressing frustration with the first conquest battle, and the way the AI titans are rarely exiting their territory, so we’re addressing it by making sure the AI Titans spend more time outside their territory

Hounds Balancing



From the data we’ve tracked regarding the balancing of the Clan, the Clan doesn’t seem to be too strong overall (Winrate in ranked: 35% in Duel | 51% in 3v3 | 3% in FFA), but we’ve seen from your feedback many of you still find it too strong in some settings, so the strength of the Clan may be still unbalanced at higher ranks. We’ll be investigating this in particular, but in the meantime, we’re still reducing its stronger aspects to prevent potential exploits.

Knowledge



We’ve seen many discussions about Bloodthirst, and the fact it’s breaking a fundamental rule about healing in combat, which is something we usually do not allow, as we’ve lately made changes to some clans to reinforce this (like the Eagle boneyard, and Snake Scorched Earth).
We usually prevent this because, on a large warband, this can lead to long and frustrating fights for the opponents, where it can feel like the enemy is not even taking damage.

We do allow it in some cases where it increases the survival chances of a few important units. We do, for example, allow it for Torfin with the knowledge Unstoppable, and the same logic applies to Hounds. As the Clan has the smallest warband among all clans, it is easier to target one unit to take down, and each unit lost is a significant setback for the Clan, so it needs ways to help its units survive the fight.
We will decrease the speed at which it heals the units to make it less frustrating to the opponents. Still, we do not want to remove the possibility of healing during combat, as it is already not fast enough to prevent a unit from being killed if targeted.

  • Hunter’s Mark (Lvl 3 ability)
    • No longer reduces the target speed
    • Increase the damages they receive by +35% > +15%
    • With Hord Instinct each Foxskin increases this value by +10% > +3%


Bearskin



Similarly to the heal during combat of Bloodthirst, we’ve seen many discussions about the fairness of Death Deceiver and the ability to make a unit unkillable for a few seconds. As this only affects one unit at a time and only lasts a few seconds, for us, it is a tool for the Clan to avoid losing a valuable unit without a chance to react and not something we want to remove. But we’ll make the effect last a bit less time to try and make it less frustrating to opponents.

ROAD MAP UPDATE | BIFRÖST

We're almost a week since the Hounds is available in all gamemodes. It is now time to look for what's coming and going back on the road map previously shared.



Claws and Jaws



We're at the end of the Claws & Jaws seasons, as we already said, we are happy with the clan of the Hounds and the new wild life added to the game. After some rebalancing and while answering your remaining feedbacks, it is now time to redirect most of our energy toward the next update...



Bifröst



Aimed for the end of this summer, the next free major update will include a new PVE Game mode that will makes you roam around new biomes!

While we would love to tell more about this updates, there is still a lot of work to do but be sure to follow us on our socials to get any new infos as soon as we deliver them!

Hounds Balancing


A lot of small tweaks and rebalancing of the clans as we’re making it available for ranked games. The idea behind those changes is not only to nerf the strongest elements, but also to rebalance some elements that feel underutilized compared to other elements. For example we’re making Foxskin less strong, in order to make the Wolfskin more interesting, and we’re decreasing the heal of Bloodthirst, while making the speed of heal faster, and making the heal ability of the Boarskin stronger in exchange, to incentivize using it to compensate.

With this patch release, the clan is now available in ranked multiplayer.

  • Berserkers now have a max amount of resources they can collect at once when absorbing a soul (80 max).

Bloodthirst


  • When gaining Military XP, regain 40% of it as heath > 30%
  • At a speed of 0.5 HP per second > 1 HP per second

  • Attack Power 14 > 12.5
  • Shredding Claws (Lvl 2 ability)
    • Each attack slows the target by -10% > -7.5%
    • To a maximum of -50% > -20%

  • Hunter’s Mark (Lvl 3 ability)
    • Mark reduce target speed by -25% > -15%
    • Increase the damages they receive by +50% > +35%

Bearskin


  • Blade Breaker (Lvl 2 ability)
    • Reduce target’s attack power by -35% > -25%
    • With Hord Instinct - each additional bearskin reduce it by -10% > -2.5%

  • Death Deceiver (Lvl 3 ability)
    • Make the first unit in the zone to die invincible for 6 seconds > 3 seconds

Boarskin


  • Mender’s Legacy (Lvl 2 ability)
    • While regaining health, heals wounded units by 1 HP per second > 1.5 HP per second

  • Blood Sacrifice (Lvl 3 ability)
  • Boarskin sacrifices 75% of its health > 60%
    • Over 5 seconds > 4 seconds
    • And converts 100% of it to wounded units > 200%

Fame 500


  • Berserkers can level up to level 7, each additional level requires 200 XP > 250 XP

Conquest Battles


Following some feedback we’ve received about the second conquest battle of the clan being too challenging in comparison to the others, we’re swapping it for another one.

  • Hounds clan battle n°2 is now No Gods No Master. (Previously The Great Hunt)
  • The clan can now play the Age of Vampires battle.
    • The clan can only evolve 1 berserker, which is considered the Warchief of the clan, and has the nightwalker ability.

QOL

  • Bloodthirst visual signal (on health bars) has been reworked to be more clear, and cause less confusion. (with some players thinking it would work as a shield and prevent taking damage for exemple)
  • It is now possible to remove an animal soul from the arena having to avoid players getting stuck in some cases and having to destroy the building.

Gate of Helheim


We’re adding a new rule to the Gate of Helheim zone, to address the issues of some clans benefiting too heavily from the Valkyrie spawn instead of being challenged by it.
