And this is not all new features that await us!

Sneak Peek #4 - Nuclear Power Plant

A nuclear power plant or nuclear power station (NPP) is a thermal power station in which the heat source is a nuclear reactor.

Initially, nuclear reactors have been created for atomic weapons. However, a method to use the nuclear power for peaceful purposes has been found.

The nuclear reactor and weapon work identically: energy is released during a nuclear chain reaction. The minimum amount of fissile material needed to start a reaction is called the critical mass. The reactor covers that the accident on the NPP, if it happens, will not have such destructive consequences as an atomic bomb explosion.

The potential hazard of a power reactor lies in the accumulation of radioactive substances during the operation. To prevent these substances from entering the environment, the principle of defense-in-depth protection is incorporated into the NPP design: a number of installed consecutive physical barriers reliably keeps radioactive substances within specified limits.

Sneak Peek #3 - Fuel rod

Fuel rod
Fuel rod is a thin and long zirconium tube. Zirconium is used in nuclear industry because of its high corrosion resistance and low fusibility. Fuel rods is where uranium atoms begin to interact with each other, producing heat. An automatic device loads more than 200 uranium pellets in a zirconium tube, and the reactor uses about 10 million pellets in total.
Several interconnected fuel rods make a fuel assembly, which ensures the plant's operation. The fuel assemblies are what a nuclear reactor is loaded with. One reactor can contain 150 to 400 fuel assemblies. In 4 years of operation one fuel assembly can generate the same amount of energy as that generated by burning 670 rail cars of coal or 900 petroleum tanks. Today, fuel assemblies are produced mainly in Russia, France, the USA and Japan.

Sneak Peek #2 - Cooling Tower

A cooling tower is a heat rejection device that rejects waste heat to the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature.

Cooling towers may either use the evaporation of water to remove process heat and cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature or, in the case of closed circuit dry cooling towers, rely solely on air to cool the working fluid to near the dry-bulb air temperature. Water, which has been heated by an industrial process or in an air-conditioning condenser, is pumped to the cooling tower through pipes. The water sprays through nozzles onto banks of material called "fill," which slows the flow of water through the cooling tower, and exposes as much water surface area as possible for maximum air-water contact. As the water flows through the cooling tower, it is exposed to air, which is being pulled through the tower by the electric motor-driven fan. When the water and air meet, a small amount of water is evaporated, creating a cooling action. The cooled water is then pumped back to the condenser or process equipment where it absorbs heat. It will then be pumped back to the cooling tower to be cooled once again.

Common applications include cooling the circulating water used in oil refineries, petrochemical and other chemical plants, thermal power stations and HVAC systems for cooling buildings.
