Seance Table, Ouija Boards, Progression/Customisation, Exorcism Models

Hey everyone!



Sorry this update has been so long in the making, I promise I haven't lost any motivation for the game, I recently suffered a spinal injury which made it hard to sit down and focus on doing anything for around 3-4 weeks, but now it's getting better I can actually jump back in with all the ideas I've been coming up with!

Thank you all for sticking with the game, and continuing to support it, now let's get onto the patch notes!

Seance Table:



The seance table has 2 different options, Basic Interaction, and Advanced Interaction, here's how they work:
To get a basic interaction out of it, all you need to do is light the candles, but a basic interaction only gives you:


  • 3 common interactions
  • 2 medium interactions


To get an advanced interaction out of the seance table, you need to find the voodoo doll that spawns in the house with the seance table, place that in the middle of the table, THEN light the 3 candles, this will cause:


  • common interaction
  • medium interactions
  • rare interactions
  • super rare interactions


An advanced interaction will cause an instant hunt, so make sure you know your escape plan before diving in.

Ouija Board:



The Ouija board is an easier way to pinpoint what room is the ghost's favorite, and where you need to exorcise it. It can also give you clues towards which ghost it is if you ask it the right questions.

Right now this primarily serves as more of a fun way to immerse yourself within the world, learn more about the ghosts you're dealing with, and it dramatically helps break up the constant back and forth but gameplay-wise, it isn't quite as impactful as the seance table.



Progression:



Previously in Obsideo there was no "real" reason to keep playing games, we were mainly playing just for the sake of it, which I completely understand can be fun, but only to a certain point.

I also didn't want it to just be a basic leveling system, where a number goes up but you don't really get any reward from it, I wanted a sense of accomplishment and something to work towards with the leveling system, so I decided the best way to go about that was to give players the ability to unlock different colors for their vestments, pants, and robes.

There are currently 7 different colors to choose from, in the future I'm planning to add more options, hopefully not just "more colors" I'm wanting to add new player models altogether, along with completely unique clothing options for not just levels, but also steam achievements. There are also now 7 different belt colors to choose from, meaning you'll be able to match up perfectly :)



We now have a basic leveling system, each level is 100XP, you can gain XP by: successfully exorcising the ghosts, selecting the correct ghost, correctly doing exorcism steps, and more.

If it's what people want, I'll happily add an extra panel to the end of the round screen that shows how much XP you earned (and how you got that XP), and how close you are to your next level.

Exorcism Models:



Now that I've finally been able to find someone who is not only extremely talented at 3D modeling, but also with creating animations, the ghosts now all show their true forms during an exorcism, this is something I know we've all wanted to see in the game since launch and it's something that I've also wanted in-game, I just couldn't find anyone who not only had the skills but also understood the vision I was going for.

Turns out that person was right under my nose the whole time! Another massive thank you to Tiyshen who did an amazing job throwing these animations together for me, I seriously recommend reaching out to them if you have any modeling and/or animation work you want doing for your projects!

I do want to start looking at procedural generation a bit more seriously now that the game is at a really good point, I also have some amazing ideas for new ghosts/interactions, and I can't wait for you to all experience them!

Voice Chat / Basic Customisation / Bug Fixes

Voice Chat:



Holding down "V" while in the lobby, or in-game will now activate voice chat, this is currently global, so everyone can hear you everywhere in the house, I'll be working on improving the sound, and potentially look at making it location-based, meaning people won't be able to hear you if they're on the other side of the house.

Basic "Skin Changer":



In the lobby you now have the ability to change your belt color, you can choose between White, Blue, Green, and Pink. This is just a placeholder as I'm currently looking at changing the current priest model into something that more accurately fits the theme of the game (it will still be a priest), and with that, I will expand on giving players the ability to customise and change their clothing in a more in-depth way. I hope this placeholder helps for now though!

Bug fixes:




  • Sprinting while standing no longer removes stamina
  • Fixed Jinns writing on paintings
  • Fixed ghosts appearing after a successful exorcism
  • Fixed a bug where blood bath was appearing outside on Farm Lane
  • Fixed a door not disappearing when you die on potts road
  • Fixed a bug where the "Portals To Hell" interaction wasn't spawning
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost couldn't leave (or enter) the "guest living room" in potts road
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost would stutter in place if you hid behind certain furniture
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost wouldn't see you even if you were standing up from "behind" cover
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost wouldn't be able to grab you if you went next to, or behind, certain furniture
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost would forget about you the second it lost sight of you
  • Fixed a bug where the Matryoshka Doll would float away for clients
  • Fixed a bug where blood pools were outside on Farm Lane
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost can see you in the potts road equipment room even with the door closed
  • Fixed a bug where pressing "B" would cause the brightness to jump to max
  • Fixed a bug where pressing "Y" in the tutorial would not end a hunt
  • Fixed a bug where the ghost could see through certain walls/doors in the houses
  • Fixed a bug where the "mimic priest" interaction would sit running on the spot all game

Ghost Orb Changes / Brightness Slider / Ambient Bass Slider

Hey everyone, just a smaller update to clean up a few issues people were having with some of the changes made in the previous, bigger update.


  • Ghost orbs now appear in a random room in the house, as opposed to possessing a random household object, this change was made to make the experience a bit cleaner, and allow you to spend more time looking at interactions as opposed to being glued to a tiny camera looking for orbs. To cleanse them now, you just need to throw the Holy Water into the center of the room they're flying around in.
  • Added the ability to change your audio settings in-game
  • Added a "House Ambience" slider to the audio section of the settings, this adjusts the "BRRRRR" sound you hear throughout the house, you now have the ability to turn it up (if you'd really want to), or off completely.
  • Added a brightness slider in the video section of the settings.
  • Changed the tutorial ghost to no longer kill you, instead when the ghost catches you in the tutorial, it will stop the hunt and send you back to your starting room, this doesn't reset the game, it just explains to you what happened.
  • Added a new keybind in the tutorial, pressing "Y" while in the tutorial will now start or stop a hunt, this allows you to understand hunts a lot easier, as well as stops any hunts that may occur while you're looking for evidence.
  • Changed the heart rate to go down considerably faster while outside of a house.
  • Removed Christmas decorations, but there appears to still be a ghost in the houses.


Bug Fixes:


  • Fixed a bug where players wouldn't get sent back or see the "blue death vision" after getting caught by a ghost in the tutorial.
  • Fixed a bug where players wouldn't drop their items after leaving a match.
  • Fixed the server browser not showing all of the active open lobbies.
  • Fixed a bug where adjusting the audio wouldn't do anything for some players.
  • Fixed a bug where the intro screen would hang for a few seconds, sometimes causing crashes.

  • Prayer when any menu is open, and someone presses p (someone else who wasn't you in multiplayer).
  • J in ghost eliminator closing journal
  • P in ghost eliminator praying
  • A lot of the controller drift has been cleaned up for none Xbox 360 controllers. Let me know if it's still happening to you by sending me a DM on Discord and I'll be happy to fix it with you, this is a built-in issue with Unity and is almost entirely out of my hands.
  • Mouse is not available sometimes when exiting the game.
  • "Too many players round the ghost" (counted dead people).
  • Exorcism failed due to holy water not being in the room when it was (it was detecting the one on the table).
  • Fixed virtual mouse errors when no controller enabled.
