Poll 77 Changes and More! | Weekly Game Update (November 16th)

Gielinor is packing up its Halloween decorations and starting to wrap up warm for the colder months. Read on for changes from Poll 77, a chilly summit, and more!

Poll 77 Changes

Last month, you voted on our latest QoL Poll, 77th of its name, destroyer of inconveniences and protector of the realm.

If it somehow passed you by, you can find the Poll Blog here, or check out the results here.

Let’s see the first batch of changes!

Demon hunters will be pleased to see that the drop rate on the Jar of Darkness has been drastically improved from 1/2,500 to a 1/200. Those of you looking to flex your Skotizo slaying prowess should find the grind a little more reasonable than before.

In other loot news, we hear the Sandwich Lady’s food safety rating is dropping fast. While she'll still offer predominantly fresh, home-made sandwiches (and chocolate bars?) she now has a 1/64 chance of giving you a Stale Baguette whenever she offers you a Baguette. While this is a concerning development for foodies, it should be a win for all the Collection Loggers out there!

Ever wanted to make an Anti-venom+ but accidentally had Zahur turn your huge stack of Torstol into unfinished Torstol Potions? Listen, it happened to a friend of ours! Thankfully, that friend will now be able to use those Torstol Potion (unf)s to make Anti-venom+ Potions. And of course, they can still use plain ol’ Torstol to do the same.

Picture this: you've just unlocked your Ardougne Cloak 1. You're excited to use your handy new teleport for rapid access to a Fairy Ring to aid you in your adventures. Unfortunately, whichever fairies put the Ring there in the first place failed to account for the most complained-about tree in Old School's history.

We've set those layabouts outside the Tower of Life to work, and they've made themselves useful by moving and removing some of the trees around the nearby Fairy Ring, meaning you'll now be able to access your favourite teleportation methods without all those (literal) extra steps. Handy! We've done some similar foliage rearranging around the Legends’ Guild Fairy Ring too.

We've got a couple of additions to your Player Owned House storage options up next.

First off, you can now store your Mining Gloves in your Armour Case. Got all three types of glove? No problem - the case has space to take all of them at once, saving you up to three Bank spaces.

Secondly, the Fish Sack Barrel is now storable in your Magic Wardrobe. No longer will space-saving players need to choose between storing their Fish Sack or upgrading it to a Fish Sack Barrel - it's the best of both worlds!

That about wraps up this week's Poll 77 changes. We hope to have the rest of them sorted by late December, so keep an eye out for more in the coming weeks!

Quest Speedrunning Competition

We're excited to announce a brand new competition for Quest Speedrunning enthusiasts!

Do you have what it takes to achieve the best global times for Prince Ali Rescue & Beneath Cursed Sands within Quest Speedrunning?

We'll award 30 glorious days of membership to the top two global times that have been achieved by 11:00 GMT on November 23rd!

Membership will be automatically applied after the closing date, and winners will be contacted via their in-game inboxes.

Best of luck! The full T&C's can be found here.

Halloween 2022 Wrap-up

After a couple of sugar-filled weeks of trick-or-treating, we're taking this year's spooky Halloween decorations down and putting them in a suitably spider-infested corner of the attic until next year.

Unfortunately, it looks like our cleaning efforts haven't been completely thorough and those meddling, costume-wearing kids left a small cauldron full of their leftover items.

If for any reason you're looking to re-assemble a Terrifying Charm, check behind 'Zaff's Superior Staffs!' and rummage around in the smelly socks and rotten food until you find whatever it is you're looking for...

Annual Survey Prize Draw

A couple of weeks ago we sent round our Annual Survey!

These surveys include a whole bunch of questions about what you enjoy doing in Old School RuneScape, what you'd like to see us do, and how you feel about some of the things we've been thinking about for the future of Old School.

As a treat for filling out the survey, respondents were entered in to a big ol' prize draw. The winners have been selected:

In Case You Missed It

This is a section we don't often include, but there's been a lot going on lately and we want to make sure you're all kept in the loop!

We recently polled a mysterious new quest, which you overwhelmingly voted to put into the game.

As part of the poll, you voted for a repeatable, soloable boss for players to tackle after the quest. Naturally, you'd like to know a little more about the loot on offer for any bossing you might end up doing. Lucky for you, there's a poll blog out now outlining the rewards on offer.

We’ve also added a small section to the top of the poll blog discussing the Revenant weapons, so make sure you take a look!

Both the mysterious boss rewards and Revenant weapon adjustment poll questions will be live in-game today. Head to your nearest in-game Poll Booth or navigate to the Community tab under Account Settings to cast your vote and have your say!

Now, you know what’s not a mystery? The date and time of our first ever Winter Summit!

We've run Summer Summits in the past, where we all talk through some of the bigger content releases for the coming months. This one’s no different, it’s just a little colder. Make sure you tune in to hear all about… er… actually, that is a mystery.

Finally, some of you reading might be familiar with EVScape's Battle Royale. The Battle Royale is an event that pits your favourite content creators against each other in an all-out showdown!

This year, for the first time ever, we're officially sponsoring the event! You can check out our initial teaser here and keep your eyes peeled for an epic cinematic trailer on our YouTube channel in the coming days, made by 2021's Best OSRS Artist Golden Gnome winner Hooti Tooti!

So, make sure to mark your calendars for December 10th, and settle in for an epic battle before tuning in to the Winter Summit.

Other Changes

Outside of Poll 77 there are a few smaller changes this week:
  • Up to a spot of Barbarian Fishing? You can now use a knife on any type of fish to slowly cut all your fish automatically. You’ll still be able to cut the fish at will, similar to cleaning herbs. This shouldn’t impact any skilling methods, but if you notice any unusual behaviour, please do let us know!
  • The combat levels in the Ogre Shaman vs Blue Dragon cutscene during Watchtower Quest have been updated in-line with the out-of-cutscene equivalents. Well spotted!
  • The Makeover Voucher previously given to players who completed Recruitment Drive is a ‘null’ item, but a few of you have been left with them lurking in your Banks. This week’s update has cleaned them out for you!

Merch Update

Looking to wrap up warm ahead of the Winter Summit extravaganza? Why not treat yourself to some new merch offerings – or add them to your gift list?

First up is our Father Gnome Child Xmas Jumper! A festive gnome child takes centre stage in our 2022 Xmas Jumper, complete with a colourful pattern of Party Hats, Crackers, Snowballs, Scarves and Xmas Trees. Ho, Ho, Ho!

Perhaps you're somewhere a little warmer this festive season? Don't worry, we've also got some new tees showing off some of Gielinor's most popular tourist destinations. Take a nostalgic trip to Lumbridge, scare yourself silly at Draynor Manor, soak in the sun on Karamja or wrap up warm (and fight for your life) on White Wolf Mountain.

And if you fancy warming up with a lovely cuppa tea (or a more grown-up beverage), we’ve also got ceramic tankards bearing the Jolly Boar Inn's logo!

Finishing up we've got some Limited Edition Santa Pins and Party Hat Keyrings for those feeling festive, and a Limited Edition Black Knight Pin, all from the fantastically talented Angels Scapes. As an extra special Black Friday Offer, anybody spending £40/$48/€46 in the store will receive a Black Party Hat Keyring for free (while stocks last!)

If you're looking for an early present or perhaps a stocking filler or two, make sure to head on over to the store to find out more about all of the above and a bunch of other lines we've restocked.

Diversity and Inclusion Changes | Weekly Game Update (November 9th)

We’re making moves this week with D&I changes, Halloween buffs, and two new quests for you to speedrun!

Diversity and Inclusion Changes

If you’re an avid FashionScaper, enjoy romancing royals, or love a good quest, we’ve got a few changes this week guaranteed to make you happy!

First up, changing anything about your base character model is now completely free, with no limitations! This means we’ve got freebies afoot (little shoe joke for you there) at Yrsa’s Shoe Shop in Rellekka, Thessalia's Shop in Varrock, the Hairdresser's in Falador and the Makeover Mage!

Now that you’ve got those fancy new duds, why not walk them over to Miscellania, where the dating scene has recently been revived? The following changes have been made to the Throne of Miscellania and Royal Trouble quests:
  • You may now choose to romance either the handsome Prince Brand or the beautiful Princess Astrid, regardless of your character’s gender.
  • Or, if you’re not looking for a long-term commitment, you can now choose to become your selected royal’s best friend instead of marrying them.

Speaking of quests, the gender requirement during Recruitment Drive has been removed and replaced with a new puzzle which will test your powers of observation. In addition, you'll receive a cool 3,000 GP for completing the quest.

You'll also notice that anyone can now join any Consortium company – except The Red Axe – regardless of which gender they present as. Any references to the companies’ previous gender discrimination have been removed from the quest.

Following the completion of The Feud, all NPCs in the town of Pollnivneach will revert to their usual names, instead of going by Ali. You can learn more by speaking to the citizens during and after the quest!

If you've got the itch for something more mischievous, both male and female H.A.M. members can now be pickpocketed at level 15 Thieving, granting 22.2 XP per successful pickpocket. The Skill Guide and level-up messages have been updated accordingly.

To coincide with the above change, Barbarian Village inhabitants of any gender can now drop Clue Keys - hurrah!

King Roald has finally heard the long-lasting complaints from The Varrock guards and has now supplied them with similar chainmail to the kind worn by fellow guards from across other cities!

You might also notice whilst exploring the cities of Gielinor, the citizens of the worlds reflect the diversity of the players venturing, to bring the worlds of both a little closer to home.

We’re still working on more Diversity and Inclusion changes, but we’re not quite ready to talk about them just yet. Keep your ears to the ground on that one!

Quest Speedrunning

Good news speedrunners! We’re adding Prince Ali Rescue and Beneath Cursed Sands to the Quest Speedrunning roster.

This also means that you’ll now be able to rack up the points required to purchase formerly-unobtainable rewards, including the Tier 3 Speedrunning outfit!

You won’t need to jump into any beta worlds this time – you’ll be able to test them from any regular Quest Speedrunning world! Remember, though, that these beta quests won’t give you trophies or set best times.

For those of you that want to know more about the testing, here are the requirements we've currently set:

We’ve also made the following changes to Speedrunning worlds:
  • Ammo dropped when fired now only appears to the person who fired it.
  • Lit fires now last a consistent amount of time before going out.
  • Ash left behind by fires now only appears to the person who lit the fire.
  • Poison, venom and disease effects are now correctly wiped when starting or ending a speedrun.

We’re also aware of an issue where items that drop because the Inventory overflows (for example, when you’re given an item but already have a full Inventory) are not correctly deleted when starting or ending a speedrun.

We expect to have a global fix for this issue released later this month. In the meantime, we will manually fix particularly bad instances of this problem. Where needed, best times will be reset to ensure times don't become unobtainable.

Also, as an added extra, Quest Speedrunning trophies have been made lighter... without using cheaper metals!

As always, we'd love to hear what you think of the requirements, starting items and any other feedback you may have.

Finally, as a quick heads up, we'll have a new competition for all you fast-footed folk starting on November 16th, so get practicing your time-saving techniques in Prince Ali Rescue & Beneath Cursed Sands!

We’d like to give a big shoutout to the speedrunning community for all their help! If you’re looking for more information about where to start or just regular, friendly advice, check out the places below:

Speaking of quests, we’ve made a couple of quality-of-life changes to Ratcatchers:
  • The rats will absolutely hate this announcement, but we’ve made it easier for cats to catch them.
  • Cats will now run away when they reach 1 HP in their fight against the King Rat, rather than valiantly fighting to the death. Now your furry friend can accompany you until you’re ready to exchange them for Death Runes, as nature intended.
  • Lastly, the guards in the mansion segment of the quest haven’t had a pay rise for a while and have become lax in their duties. They should be a bit easier to anticipate, and you’ll no longer get caught between awkward rotations while conducting your sneaky business.

Tombs of Amascut

As we discussed last week, we've made some adjustments to Osmumten's Fang. If you missed it, the big change is that the weapon now rolls your accuracy twice, but doesn't re-roll an enemy's Defence.

For a full rundown, including the raid's drop mechanics, click here.

This behaviour will be reflected everywhere except the Tombs of Amascut, where the Fang will act as it currently does.

Halloween 2022

We’re glad you’re all enjoying the Halloween goodness! Because you’ve been so ghoulishly delightful, we’re buffing the event so you’ll enjoy it even more!

Firstly, you’ll get more treats per drop, a higher chance to get treats in the first place, and a reduced cooldown on treats when gathering logs, ore or fish.

Generous treaters are now more common and hang around for longer – we’ve also reduced their spawn delays, so they’ll appear faster, too!

Lastly, we’ve noticed you guessing the size of the global ghouls – sorry, goals – as anywhere between 500 million to 1 billion. As a heads-up, it’s not even as much as the smallest of guesses… and may even be off by a couple 100 million!

Crack The Clue 3

It's been over a month since Crack The Clue 3 began and we've throughly enjoyed watching all of you intrepid treasure hunters solve the clues created by the fantastic Woox!

If you're wanting to start, fear not it's not too late as there are plenty of great places to find those like-minded hunters:

Other Changes

  • Corrected the 42 Mining ‘requirement’ for What Lies Below to be a recommendation.
  • The issues with the Divine Rune Pouch (t), including the visibility bug in the 4th slot and the issue where the ZMI payment menu wouldn’t highlight correctly, have been fixed.
  • You may now reclaim the Darkness of Hallowvale reward tome after completing A Taste of Hope from the chest located at the Burgh de Rott hideout… if you like.
  • Fixed some incorrectly formatted dialogue in the Big Chompy Bird Hunting quest.
  • The world switcher now displays all worlds correctly for players who have opted out of Fresh Start Worlds.
  • MOBILE ONLY: Optimised the on-tap highlights to help with framerate dropping issues.
  • STEAM ONLY: Tooltips will no longer be cut off on the right side of the screen.

PvP Rota Changes

The PvP rota has moved to Period A:
  • 539 - (US) - PvP World
  • 548 - (Germany) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 577 - (US) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been deactivated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Max/Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Halloween 2022

On this haunted holiday, Varrock is full to the brim with costumed horrors. Children dressed as ghosts, civilians masquerading as beloved Shakespearean characters, stinking beasts covered head-to-toe in fur demanding your very bones… oh wait, that last one’s just the Stray Dog. Oops!

But costumes aren’t the only unusual sighting this Halloween. We’ve had reports of sweets popping out of trees, rocks and Fishing spots all over the world. Even NPCs are joining in the fun, as the Halloween spirit sweeps Gielinor.

Strange things are afoot… you’d best head to the Varrock West Bank to see what’s what.

Looks like Varrock's getting into the spooky spirit this year!

This year’s event is a little different from the previous ones but rest assured that you’re all invited and there are absolutely no prerequisites – so everyone can join in the spooky fun!

While most of the action can be found in and around Varrock, a handful of particularly generous NPCs can be found getting into the ‘spirit’ of things further afield. Keep an eye out!

The only things you’ll need to bring along are your best scary face and a handful of tricks to snag yourself some ‘wicked’ cosmetic treats!

Fresh Start Worlds

Last week saw the release of Fresh Start Worlds where thousands of players set foot in Gielinor for the first time… again!

Missed the news? Catch up with the Fresh Start Worlds blog.

To celebrate, we've also been uploading some nostalgia-focussed content to our YouTube channel.

And last but not least, if you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack for your new adventure, have a listen to the second volume of our LoFi OSRS Mixtape, produced by OSRSBeatz with visuals by Hooti Tooti. It’s got more bangers than bonfire night!

Quest Speedrunning and Poison Dynamite Betas

In Beta news, we’ve got a few bits of content we’d like you to take for a test run.

What's coarse, rough, irritating and gets everywhere (including Quest Speedrunning worlds)? If you guessed sand, you guessed correct!

Prince Ali Rescue and Beneath Cursed Sands have been added to Quest Speedrunning Worlds as open betas. Your times won’t be saved, and won’t count towards rewards, but your participation will be immensely valuable. Plus, you’ll get a golden opportunity to formulate your speedrunning strats before the quests launch for real in two weeks’ time!

But maybe sand isn’t your thing. Perhaps you’d prefer something a little more explosive…

That’s right, we’ve made some changes to Poison Dynamite based on your feedback from the current beta worlds.

Players were finding it difficult to consistently utilise Poison Dynamite as a 1x1 explosion. There are two solutions to this problem, so we’d like you to try them both and see which one you prefer!

The first option is for ‘placed’ Poison Dynamite to explode in a 3x3 area, rather than a 1x1. This should make it easier to get that poison ticking on larger NPCs, since it was proving difficult to land the 1x1 explosion on their ‘true’ tile.

The second option is to enable players to use Poison Dynamite directly on NPCs, like a sticky bomb.

In the beta worlds, both options will be functional – although we would like to pick one or the other, so do send us any feedback you have!

We've also made a handful of other tweaks to Poison Dynamite:
  • Poison damage increased to 6, in line with P++ weaponry.
  • New 'chance to hit' calculations based on the player's loadout - rolls the player's chosen combat style against the appropriate NPC's defense.
  • No longer poisons NPCs if the initial explosion deals 0 damage.
  • No longer hits multiple NPCs in multi-way combat areas.
  • No longer works inside the Fight Caves.

Winter Game Jam 2022

Some of you might remember April's Gielinor Gazette where we shared some of the projects from our first-ever Game Jam!

The team really enjoyed working on so many different ideas and seeing what you all thought about them. Perhaps you’ll hear more in the near future about some of the things we pitched back in April…

In the meantime, though, you’ll be excited to learn that we’re hosting another Game Jam next week! We can’t wait to see what projects the J-Mods come up with this time.

However, this does mean that there will be no Game Update on November 2nd.

Make sure to keep an eye on our social media platforms (check out the hashtag #OSRSGameJam) to see the sorts of things we’re working on – and perhaps even share some ideas of your own!

Other Changes

We've got a handful of other changes this week:
  • Players may now use Trouver Parchments on the Divine Rune Pouch rather than having to re-obtain the Thread of Elidinis after dying beyond Level 30 Wilderness.
  • iOS users can now make use of the Bond voucher codes added with last week’s update.
  • The Agility Skill Guide now shows the correct Ranged level required for a Bow of Faerdhinen.
  • The Hard Desert Diary Task requiring a player to kill a locust rider now only completes upon killing a locust rider and will not apply for other beasties killed in the general area.
  • Fixed a bug where wearing the Hallowed Ring meant that players could ignore all obstacles when at 1HP inside the Hallowed Sepulchre. This was hotfixed last week, but we wanted to make sure to include it here.
  • Fixed a bug which allowed players to skip obtaining Silverlight on Quest Speedrunning Worlds.
  • Fixed a bug allowing people to skip obtaining some required items for Ernest the Chicken on Quest Speedrunning Worlds.

Fan Content Policy

Back in July we published our Fan Content Policy – a document designed to give you confidence about what you can and can't create without permission.

We saw some really positive feedback about this from most of our creative communities, but for fan fiction writers, it's clear the policy limitations around word count could impact your creativity!

So, we've updated the relevant section (4.1.4) to give fandom wordsmiths a bit more freedom:

Fan Fiction - you can write stories inspired by your adventures in-game and share these on non-commercial third-party fan fiction sites like fanfiction.net or archiveofourown.org, provided you do not receive payment for them in return. If you intend to write a piece of fan fiction for a commercial site (such as Amazon, for example), for commercial publication in a physical form or as a paid-for commission for publication or commercial use, then you will need to run this by us first.

We hope this provides a clearer creative boundary that doesn't limit your personal writing projects with worries over word count! Thanks for all your feedback, as always.

Fresh Start Worlds | Weekly Game Update (October 19th)

Fresh Start Worlds

Fresh Start Worlds will open today at 12:00 BST! If you’ve been waiting for the right time to try Old School RuneScape, this is it! Here’s how to get started:

Step 1: Create Your Account. Head directly to the account creation menu via this link!

You can download the vanilla client or use the new Jagex Launcher. The Jagex Launcher allows you to play using RuneLite which is a widely used third-party client. Once you have downloaded your preferred client, select ‘New User’.

Step 2: Log in with your details. Fresh Start Worlds will open at 12:00 BST. Once you’ve created an account, simply log in with your details and you can start the tutorial.

Step 3: Complete Tutorial Island! Tutorial Island takes about 10 minutes to complete. At the end of the tutorial, you'll be offered the choice between a Fresh Start account or a main game account. lf you're making your account before the Fresh Start Worlds open at 12:00 BST, do not leave Tutorial Island! Once you're on the main game you can't go back.

Step 4: Start playing! Confirm your choice at the end of Tutorial Island, and you're ready to go! Remember, you can transform a Fresh Start account into a main game account, but this does not work vice versa.

Fresh Start Worlds are brand-new worlds, with no established economy and fresh HiScores! There are both members and free-to-play Fresh Start Worlds, and the gameplay is exactly the same as it is in the main game – it’s just new!

On Fresh Start Worlds you’re much more likely to encounter players who’ve started the game at the same time you did, and we expect the early-game areas to be much more populated than they are in the main game.

You’ll also get the chance to see your name on the front page of the HiScores – or, if you’re up for a real challenge, why not see if you can achieve a World First?

To help you on your journey, you’ll earn Achievement Points for participating in various activities like quests, bossing, Achievement Diary tasks and Clue Scrolls. This new system is exclusive to Fresh Start accounts and is designed to keep you motivated throughout your adventure.

Achievement Points are tracked via your Side Panel menu, as shown below:

After six months, your progress in Fresh Start Worlds will automatically transfer over to the main game. Your items, Quest Points and skill levels will be seamlessly transferred over on April 19th, 2023!

Bonds to Membership Vouchers

Got a noob friend interested in Fresh Start Worlds or the main game? Why not gift them membership, so they can explore everything Gielinor has to offer?

We now have a Bond-to-Voucher system which will let you gift membership from the main game to your friend using a voucher code. To generate a code, open up the Bond Redemption menu in the main game, where you’ll see a new option: ‘Redeem a Voucher Code’.

Once generated, the voucher will be sent to the Player Inbox it was purchased on. You can then claim the voucher for yourself or pass it along to someone else.

Please note that you cannot redeem membership from the voucher in-game. Instead, you must log on to the Old School RuneScape website with the account you want membership applied to, where you'll be able to enter your code via the 'Redeem Code' option.

Stance on Swapping

We've seen a number of questions asking about our stance on swapping GP from the main game to Fresh Start Worlds (or vice versa). We would like to clarify that swapping will not be a bannable offence. However, this is risky so we don't advise doing it. Players have to accept the risks of potentially being scammed as a result.

Spamming to advertise swapping is against the rules as generally this involves using bots to advertise or is very disruptive, both of which are not permitted within our Game rules.

Useful Links and Communities for New and Returning Players

Typing ‘-newplayer’ will command the Gnomechild bot to send you helpful guides, like this:

You can also visit the Daily Questions thread on Reddit, where other players will be happy to help!

Last but not least, our J-Mod team have some helpful tips!
  • You can play as an entirely free-to-play account or upgrade to become a member. In the World list, hover over a world to see what type of world it is and whether there are any restrictions on it. The colour of the world will denote whether it is free to play (silver) or members-only (gold). Fresh Start Worlds will also be clearly labelled.
  • Old School RuneScape can fit compactly on your screen, but you may prefer to make it larger. To do so, click on the spanner in the bottom-right of your screen!
  • The nearest Bank when you get into the game is just behind you, up the stairs of Lumbridge Castle!
  • Enabling 2-Factor Authentication on your account is highly important to keep your account secure. Head here to find out how to set up 2FA on your account.
  • Remember that there is no right or wrong way to play the game. There are optimal ways to achieve certain goals, but you decide how you want to play.

Lastly, there are many Discord Communities that exist outside of the Official OSRS Discord where you can find guides, gear setups and more. These are not exclusive to Fresh Start Worlds, but you might find them helpful if you have specific questions about the game.

Phew! That's all of them. Now, do you have any helpful tips or communities that you'd like to share? Share your Old School wisdom using the hashtag #OSRSFSW on Twitter and you'll be in with a chance of winning 30 days of membership!

Fresh Start Worlds Special Livestream

On Thursday October 20th, you're invited to join us for a special Fresh Start Worlds livestream! During the stream, J-Mods will team up together to take on the early game. Prepare to cringe or be wildly entertained as we progress. Perhaps you might be able to influence where the J-Mods go on their adventure!

We expect the stream will run from approximately 12:00 BST - 18:30 BST. We'll also be dropping holiday items into Fresh Start Worlds at intervals during the stream, including Halloween Masks, Santa Hats, Easter items and the coveted Party Hats! These are exclusive cosmetic items, so grab them while you can. Tune into our Twitch channel on the day to find out where we'll be dropping them.

If you can't make it to the event, don't worry. All accounts will be merged into the main game after six months, so these items won’t stay exclusive forever – and if there’s significant demand, we’re always up for another drop party. Nevertheless, we look forward to seeing you at launch!

Mobile Bug Fixes

There are a number of bugs and issues currently affecting mobile users. Thanks for all the reports you've sent in - we're working on it! When we update our Engine Systems, this can cause some unforeseen issues in the live environment.

We're working through the issues as quickly as we can. Here's what is being fixed today:
  • Resolved an issue with text displayed on the Helper menu. Previously, the pop-out could cut off the text displayed in the Helper Menu. For example, you might see '5' kills remaining in your Slayer Helper instead of '52'.
  • Resolved an issue where Bank Pin numbers were disappearing. The last touch was leaving the 'mouse' over that number, and the buttons are set to hide the number on mouseover.
  • For players experiencing 'black screen' issues: We have deployed a client update for Android Client users. After manually updating the app, most players should no longer experience this issue. Check the play store to ensure you've got an up-to-date version of the app. There are some niche devices that may still be affected by this issue and you can report details to us here. We're working on a further fix in the coming weeks.
  • We have aligned tool-tips to the left-hand side following player feedback. This should result in less players having trouble reading them. If the left-hand side is also causing problems, let us know your feedback as we'll work on a more responsive solution.

There are still some additional mobile issues affecting players. Here are the top two issues that we're aware of:
  • The Chat Box is glitching when numbers or words are entered.
  • FPS or crash issues, typically when a player is in an instance.

The above issues have been forwarded to the team and are being worked on. These issues have been difficult to replicate and are therefore a bit trickier to get a handle on. We appreciate your patience as we work on this.

Jagex Launcher

Fresh Start Worlds aren’t the only new thing we’d like to talk about today! What better way to get access to these brand-new worlds and more than with a newly updated Jagex Launcher!

The Jagex Launcher is the easiest and most convenient way to play Old School, offering a new and improved experience. It allows you to access Jagex games seamlessly and securely, all in one place and with the safety and convenience of a single login.

Earlier this week the Launcher was updated, allowing you to add up to 10 different accounts and switch between them seamlessly! You can even play multiple accounts simultaneously when using RuneLite.

Download the Launcher here.

For more information on the Launcher including multi-account support, check out the FAQ here.

This is your chance to tell us how we can improve the game you love. Not only that, by doing so, you'll also be in with the chance of winning one of FIFTY Amazon $50 vouchers!

The survey closes on October 31st 2022 and should only take around 30 - 45 minutes to complete. Thanks for helping to shape our wonderful game and for taking the time to leave us your valuable feedback!

Quest Speedrunning Changes

We're pleased to see so many of you enjoying Quest Speedrunning! For those of you with Platinum Trophies, please accept our sincerest congratulations! It's a niche piece of content, we admit, but it's been fantastic to offer you the long-anticipated ability to replay quests on your main account.

Last week, we noticed that the doors in the basement during 'Ernest the Chicken' could be opened and closed by certain nefarious players, causing stalls for others doing the quest. These doors use specific code which is different from the standard doors in-game. We've hotfixed most of the doors that cause major bottlenecks, however please note they are still able to be closed once. It's not currently possible for us to implement a solution where doors cannot be closed at all, however the current fix ensures that they no longer close on their own and can no longer bottleneck players.

After taking a look at the Quest Speedrunning data, we've also made balancing changes to the trophy times.

Ernest the Chicken: This speedrun was a bit too hard at the Platinum level, but the Bronze and Silver levels feel too easy. Achieving Platinum is now slightly easier, but we've decreased the gaps between each trophy:

[th]Ernest the Chicken [/th]

Tier Current New

Bronze 7:00 5:45

Silver 5:30 5:00

Gold 4:00 4:00 (Remains the same)

Platinum 4:00 4:15

Dragon Slayer I: As a longer quest with lots of combat, there’s a lot of room to get unlucky with RNG and miss out on what would otherwise have been a good time. The gaps between each trophy feel good, so we've added a minute to each tier:

[th]Dragon Slayer I[/th]

Tier Current New

Bronze 36:00 37:00

Silver 27:00 28:00

Gold 21:00 22:00

Platinum 18:00 19:00

Demon Slayer: We've heard complaints that there’s a lot of RNG involved in getting a Gold or above and world hopping is pretty much a requirement. We've made changes to ensure that the times are now easier to obtain, but with wider gaps between them.

[th]Demon Slayer [/th]

Tier Current New

Bronze 14:15 16:00

Silver 11:15 12:15

Gold 9:15 9:45

Platinum 8:15 8:30

We hope these changes will be more in line with your expectations of Quest Speedrunning. The balancing changes listed above do not work retroactively, so these do not affect your current times.

Further Quest Speedrunning changes this week include the following:

  • Elize now provides additional information about the number of available quests on Speedrunning Worlds as well as the number of trophies of a specific tier you currently have.
  • We have added an option to restart a speedrun. Pressing the ‘abandon’ button on a speedrun now gives you the option to reset, which will set the speedrun up again for you.
  • Most trapdoors and manholes will now no longer close automatically on Speedrunning Worlds. There may be instances where some still close automatically, and we will review those on a case-by-case basis.
  • Ironman downgrade messages are also no longer given on Speedrunning Worlds.

Lastly, we have removed Quest Speedrunning Worlds 503, 541, 550, 569, and 581.

Tombs of Amascut Improvements

  • It is no longer possible to smuggle additional mirrors between phases in the Path of Het challenge room.
  • The Bank Camel's name will also now be a valid answer to the 'MACHETE CLAM' Clue once you've learned it. We previously mentioned that this change was released on October 5th. This was incorrect - it has in fact released today. Sorry!
  • Players can no longer receive the 'Leech' title if they have the highest damage in Tombs of Amascut, or are the raid MVP.

Other Changes

  • The Clan Hall's Combat Ring now stores your current Special Attack when entering and restores your Special Attack when exiting. This can make it easier to practice your duels with fellow Clan members. When dying, it will NOT restore your Special Attack to its previous level, but will do so the next time you exit the map or leave the Combat Ring instead.
  • Last week, we rolled out a silent change to our backend system which will allow us to carry out some planned D&I initiatives. Thessalia and Farmer Gricoller’s dialogue experienced some unintentional player-facing changes as a result. We have reverted the dialogue back to normal until we are ready to roll out the D&I changes in full, which we anticipate will happen sometime in November.
  • The Mask of Rebirth can now be stored in a Magic Wardrobe in a Player-Owned House.
  • A snake on Ape Atoll now spawns further away from the southern Teak Trees.
  • Although XP gains are normally restricted in instanced areas on Deadman Worlds, players on World 45 can now gain Slayer XP from Vorkath.
  • The geysers in the Chambers of Xeric now have a left-click option for filling the Gourd Vials more conveniently.
  • Farmer Gricoller's name is now displayed correctly in his dialogue boxes.
  • There is now a visible and audible cue signalling when you stop cutting Blisterwood Trees.
  • You can now buy Rune Pouch notes from the Slayer Shop for a mere 750 Points. They stack in the Bank!

PvP Rota

The PvP rota has moved to Period A:
  • 539 - (US) - PvP World
  • 548 - (Germany) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 577 - (US) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is currently using 'Max/Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments.

Quest Speedrunning | Weekly Game Update (October 11th)

This week’s update sees the launch of Quest Speedrunning!

Quest Speedrunning

What was that? A bird? A plane? No, it’s Quest Speedrunning, zooming its way to Old School!

Speedrunning is the art of playing video games as quickly as possible, and the Old School RuneScape community has been doing it unofficially for as long as we can remember.

Soon, you’ll be able to test your speedrunning skills in a brand-new, official game mode, and compete for untradeable cosmetic rewards!

So limber up and keep reading to learn all you need to know before Quest Speedrunning launches tomorrow, Wednesday 12th at approximately 11:30 BST.

(Why’s the update here early, if the content still launches tomorrow? Well, we wanted to have plenty of time to test all the engine changes we’re releasing alongside this update. As every speedrunner knows, practice makes perfect)!

Quest Speedrunning Worlds

Remember, Quest Speedrunning takes place on separate, members-only worlds with different save files.

Here's a quick reminder about the differences between Quest Speedrunning Worlds and regular ones:
  • No tutorial.
  • No trading – all players are considered Iron accounts.
  • No PvP.
  • No access to Castle Wars, the PvP Arena, Fight Pits, Last Man Standing, Rat Pits, Soul Wars, or Trouble Brewing.
  • Teleport cooldowns (such as the Home Teleport) are paused on logout, so players can’t log out and wait 30 minutes to regain their teleport and cheat the system.
  • Shops have a static stock and items are never sold out.
  • Items can still be sold to shops but will be immediately deleted.
  • Items picked up from the floor are player-specific, so multiple speedrunners can obtain the same item without having to worry about competition!
  • Dropped items behave as normal, but will be deleted once the speedrun ends.
  • Death works as normal.

In addition, to discourage chicanery, the following rules apply to players on Speedrunning Worlds who are not on a speedrun:
  • XP gain is disabled.
  • Deaths are safe and any items dropped on death are immediately deleted. If you die while not on a speedrun, you will respawn in Lumbridge with the items you had.

Getting Started

Step 1

Log into a Quest Speedrunning World and you'll be immediately prompted to select the quest you’d like to run via the Quest Speedrunning menu.

You'll see the following data for the quest that you’ve selected:
  • Current Speedrun Time.
  • Personal Best Time.
  • Global Best Time.
  • Times required for each trophy (see Rewards section).
  • Unlocks:
    • Unlocks are the stats, completed quests, travel, and other unlocks you’ll get when starting a speedrun. These unlocks are the same for everyone.
  • Items:
    • This heading shows the items you’ll get when starting your chosen quest. Be aware that the items given are not necessarily the items required – for example, if the quest requires a dagger, you may be given a suitable pickaxe (or the money to buy one) to go mine some ore and smith it into the dagger you need.

After you’ve made your choice, the game will automatically adjust your stats to the recommended levels for the quest you’ve chosen and provide all the relevant items. This keeps things fair and ensures that everyone starts in the same place.

Step 2

The race will begin after you speak to the relevant NPC and begin the quest – after that point, the Speedrun Timer will be ticking, and you’ll be conveniently whisked away to the start point of your chosen quest. The timer will automatically stop once the quest is complete or when the speedrun is abandoned, which can be done at any time via the Speedrunning Menu. If things go wrong, you can also cancel your current adventure and start over from that same menu – convenient! Logging out will pause the timer but be aware that doing so will add a couple of seconds to your time to prevent logging out becoming a viable strategy.

Your current time is shown on the Speedrunning Menu and the Speedrunning Helper, which appears onscreen throughout the run and also displays the time required for the next trophy.

Step 3

Finished Speedrunning and ready for your reward? Head over to the NPC located by the Fountain in Varrock Square to find the Speedrunning Rewards Shop! Since they're all untradeable, you'll be able to reclaim any rewards you purchase should you accidentally lose them.

Rewards

Rewards from Quest Speedrunning are a real flex, as they can only be obtained by taking part in this game mode. At launch there will be a maximum of 1,600 points available, because there are only five quests to complete.

Let’s take a look at those rewards!

Adventurer's Outfit Tier 1 (200 Reward Points)

Adventurer's Outfit Tier 2 (600 Reward Points)

Adventurer's Outfit Tier 3 (1800 Reward Points)

If you’re skilled enough to obtain the Tier 3 Adventurer’s Outfit, you might also be excited to learn that it acts as a Graceful Outfit transmog. Could this be the new meta for Graceful FashionScape?

Speedy Teleport Scroll (600 Reward Points)

Giant Stopwatch (1200 Reward Points)

Reward Points

You can earn four different trophies per quest, ranging from Bronze to Platinum! Earning a trophy for the first time will get you Reward Points – the better the trophy, the more Points you’ll get.
  • Bronze: 10 Points
  • Silver: 30 Points
  • Gold: 80 Points
  • Platinum: 200 Points

The total Reward Points available for each quest is 320 Points.

But that’s not all – you’ll also unlock your hard-earned trophies as in-game items! They provide no mechanical buffs, but they will show everyone you meet that you’re a Quest Speedrunning champion.

To unlock the trophies as items, you’ll need to unlock every trophy of that level for all the quests on the Speedrunning list – so to wield the Bronze Trophy, you’ll need to complete all the quests to at least Bronze standard.

You can only earn a given trophy once, but you can always go back and try to earn a higher-level one! Be aware that you can earn multiple trophies in one speedrun, so if you get the Platinum on your first go, you’ll also unlock Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

The Speedrunning Menu will help you keep track of which trophies you’ve already earned, and the Speedrunning Helper will let you know which time you need to beat to earn your next trophy.

Here the five quests which will be available on launch day tomorrow:

Ten additional quests will be added to the Quest Speedrunner in the five months following release. You can check out exactly which ones they are in the Quest Speedrunning blog.

If the game mode proves to be popular with players, we'll look at expanding the Quest Speedrunner and its rewards. For now, let us know what you think via social media or our official surveys.

Changes and Fixes

Now that we've covered what's coming in tomorrow's game update, let’s look at the content changes which will be going live on Tuesday October 11th – that’s today! These changes are small but impactful improvements to the main game.

Tombs of Amascut Improvements
  • We've given the Warden pet variants some attack animations and unique lines when battling in the Combat Ring of the Player Owned House. Check them out!
  • Tumeken’s Shadow now correctly has a 4x Accuracy and Damage multiplier within Tombs of Amascut.
  • Masori Chaps will no longer stretch when swimming in Zebak’s boss room.
  • Using an Emergency Teleport Crystal on someone else in the raid will no longer use two Crystals instead of one.
  • Fixed an issue where corner tiles in the Path of Scabaras puzzles were difficult to step on when the camera was pointed eastwards.

Other Changes
  • Options on an NPC will now disappear as soon as it starts dying.
  • Fixed an issue where the Clan Hall staircase allowed players to teleport from the balcony to the ground and vice versa.
  • Corrected the data relating to Shattered Relics on the Leagues Accomplishment Scroll.
  • The Clan Hall Combat Ring will now run the proper safety checks and prevent players from losing items and/or HCIM status when dying this way.
  • The Catalytic Tiara can now be used to enter the Law Altar, provided you've completed Troll Stronghold. Previously, it was checking Eadgar's Ruse for completion by mistake.
  • The Ancient Godsword can now perform its healing ability more reliably in Last Man Standing.
  • Players raiding a beehive at Catherby can now use a full Beekeeper Outfit for protection rather than the usual Repellent.
  • Spam-clicking the altars in the Tower of Life basement will no longer accidentally steal your ingredients.

The Clan Hall now sports a dedicated Combat Ring for you and your buddies to duel in! It’s located in the northwest section of the Clan Hall, where you can take a shortcut up a set of stairs to reach it or walk dramatically around the edge. Your choice!

This Combat Ring works exactly the same as all the others – it’s a safe death, and the gloves and other Player Owned Housing items cannot be removed from the ring. Don’t try sneaking them back to Falador – it’s not gonna work this time!

Clan Hall Party Chest

When you’re done scrapping about, why not soothe those bruised egos with a friendly drop party? Just place your items in the Party Chest, located in the main section of the Clan Hall, and get ready to pop those balloons!

There’s also an extra Party Chest near the Clan Bank for ease of use.

Right-clicking the Chest will tell you its current permissions. Clan Leaders have the ability to set these permissions, which allow players to pull the lever, deposit items, and receive drops.

Stackable items (including any Noted ones) can be added to the Party Chest and will drop in bunches. We’ve added a stack count just like we have for Banks – and for parity, the same feature has been added to the main Party Room Chest. No need to thank us, Party Pete!

To make things fair, items will remain on the ground for a full five minutes, instead of the usual two, giving you plenty of time to grab your stuff.

Since Clan Halls are instances, the party will go on as long as someone from your Clan is still in the Hall. However, if everyone leaves, the instance will be deleted along with all the dropped items. If you’re planning to duck out and return later, make sure someone stays behind to keep the instance open.

One more cause for celebration – that’s the last of the Poll 76 changes! Phew! Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming blog which will tell you all the cool stuff you can vote on in Poll 77.

Leagues Accomplishment Scroll

The Leagues Accomplishment Scroll, located in the Trophy Room of your Player Owned House, now contains all the data from our most recent League: Shattered Relics!

Right-click the Scroll to see...
  • Your stats from the League (if you took part)
  • The Top 100 players from Shattered Relics
  • Shattered Relics League Firsts

We know you can’t wait to hear more information about the next League, and we’ll let you know as soon as we have more information to share. For now though, take a look at the latest update from our Leadership Team!

Updated Launch Date for Quest Speedrunning

The launch date for Quest Speedrunning is now Wednesday, October 12th. We’re taking some extra time to review your feedback and update the engine to accommodate this release. Thank you for your patience!

Tombs of Amascut Changes

Last week, we optimised the code used for the Akkha and Wardens fights. We did not expect this to affect the functionality of the raid and so kept it silent in the Patch Notes.

Unfortunately, shortly after the update we discovered that there were some player-facing side-effects we hadn’t intended. It was previously possible to skip certain attacks and mitigate damage in these boss fights, which became impossible after we made last week’s change.

This week, we’ve fixed the issue. Both boss fights should now be back to normal.

We apologise for the inconvenience and would like to thank everyone who submitted reports about the issue.

Now, on to this week’s changes!

Players are now able to drop the following potions anywhere inside Tombs of Amascut and have them show up immediately:
  • Super Combat
  • Divine Super Combat
  • Ranged
  • Divine Ranged
  • Bastion
  • Divine Bastion
  • Sanfew Serum
  • Stamina
  • Antidote++
  • Antivenom+

The Bank Camel's name will also now be a valid answer to the "MACHETE CLAM" Clue once you've learned it! Don’t know what this means? Get yourself a Camulet and find out!

The following hotfixes were made last week:
  • Removed an unintentional safespot in the Wardens Phase 3.
  • Fixed a bug where the mid-way loot ‘Withdraw 1’ Option withdrew ‘All’ the loot instead.

And here are this week’s fixes:
  • The Rewards and Loot Interfaces have been pushed around a few pixels to make them look better.
  • Fixed a bug that showed up in raids with two or more players where Energy Siphons became misaligned during the Wardens Phase 3.
  • Players can no longer stand instead of swim on a certain tile in the Zebak fight.
  • Fixed a bug where the animation on Tumeken's Shadow differed slightly between PvP and PvM.
  • Fixed a visual bug caused by swimming during the Zebak fight while wearing the Masori Armour.
  • Void tiles in the Wardens Phase 3 will no longer prevent players from clicking the Crystal and leaving the room. We've removed the ranged blocking from the tiles, which should stop people getting stuck.

Other Changes

PvP Arena Changes

It’s really important that players show up their duels when they sign up in the PvP Arena. No-shows affect the matchmaking system and cause unnecessary frustration for their opponents. To encourage players to stick around, we’ve made a change that penalises players who fail to attend their duels.

Rank Points will now be automatically removed when players receive an invitation to duel. Don’t panic! They’ll be restored as soon as you enter the staging area when the fight begins.

If your duel partner fails to appear, your points will still be refunded, as long as you yourself have made it to the staging area.

To clarify:
  • When you find a duel, your Rank is now automatically reduced.
  • The Rank Points will be refunded when the fight starts, or if the fight expires while you are waiting in the staging area.

Players should only have their Rank reduced once per duel. Additionally, you will no longer see the orange ‘in a duel’ icon next to your name until you start receiving notifications about your next match.

This system is not intended to affect players who are competing in the PvP Arena normally. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, but this change is aimed at repeat offenders, not players who have to skip duels rarely for legitimate reasons.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • A ‘Check’ option has been added to the Explorer's Ring. Use it to learn the number of Alchs, Teleports, and Run Restores left.
  • Entries in Boss and Slayer Logs are now sorted in alphabetical order.
  • Heroes' Quest has been fixed for players stuck in a broken state. Apparently, somebody managed to start the quest as a Phoenix Gang member, even though they're actually in the Black Arm Gang. What an experience that must have been!
  • You will now be reminded when you are about to be logged out 30 minutes and 10 minutes before the end of a 6-hour session, on top of the existing warnings.
  • You can now find your kingdom statistics (including approval rating and coffer value) at the bottom of the Throne of Miscellania and Royal Trouble Quest Journals.
  • The altars in the Tower of Life basement have had their dialogue boxes streamlined to reduce the clicking required to use them.
  • The Spin Flax Lunar Spell will now queue if you cast a second Spin Flax spell before the last one finishes, akin to other spells such as High Alchemy or Tan Hides.

The PvP Arena is using Zerker loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Fresh Start Worlds Blog

Fresh Start Worlds is coming to Old School on October 19th! Keep reading to learn more…

Old School's Fresh Start Worlds

Fresh Start Worlds is your chance to restart your Old School journey! It’s the Old School RuneScape you know and love, except with a fresh economy, fresh HiScores, and, of course, fresh adventure!

You remember starting Old School, all those years ago. Wasn’t it exciting to play shoulder-to-shoulder with players at the same stage of the game as you? One of the major problems reported by new players is that they don’t get this experience – everyone they meet is further along in their journey. Fresh Start Worlds offers the unique opportunity to start from scratch with thousands of other players at your side. It’s the perfect opportunity for new (or returning) players to jump in, meet others, and play together!

Fresh Start Worlds are free-to-play. They aren’t a replacement for Leagues or Deadman Mode, but an exciting new way to experience the unique charm of Old School RuneScape.

This is not strictly a competitive game mode, but because we’re starting from a blank slate, there’ll be plenty of new HiScores and World Firsts up for grabs! We’ve also developed a Fresh Start Worlds-exclusive Achievements system to help guide new players – but it won’t offer additional rewards.

After six months, your progress in Fresh Start Worlds will automatically transfer over to the main game. That includes your items, Quest Points, skill levels, and your actual soul. Maybe. We reckon that after six months, new players will have had plenty of time to get to grips with the game and will be ready to progress further and at a faster pace.

Design

The gameplay in Fresh Start Worlds is exactly the same as the main game, but the economy and HiScores will be brand new!

Fresh Start Worlds will receive all the same regular game updates as the main game. We can’t wait to see how far you’ll go!

Unlike the RuneScape version of Fresh Start Worlds, Old School freshers will not have increased XP or drop rates. Notably, Ironman Mode will also not be available on Fresh Start Worlds. This update is designed for new players, so we thought it best to keep things simple.

Opt-In System

Fresh Start Worlds will be completely opt-in. To play, you’ll need to complete the tutorial on any world. At the end of the tutorial, you’ll see a prompt asking whether you'd like a Fresh Start account or a main game account.

Here's what that looks like:

The helpful ‘Find Out More’ button will tell you more information about Fresh Start Worlds, in case you’re not sure what you’re getting into, or you don’t read newsposts. (In which case… how are you seeing this?)

You’ll also see the number of days left until Fresh Start Worlds closes and accounts are merged with the main game – so you can make a fully-informed choice about whether it’s worth starting your adventure on Fresh Start Worlds or not.

A Fresh Start account can be changed into a main one at any time, but please note that this doesn’t work the other way around. To reiterate, you won’t be able to play Fresh Start Worlds if you choose to make a main game account.

Once you’ve made your choice, you’ll be teleported away from Tutorial Island and automatically placed in one of the Fresh Start Worlds. Woohoo!

Now that we've covered the basics of Fresh Start Worlds, let's talk about more of the unique aspects of the design!

How do we keep players engaged with new worlds on a new economy?

Achievement System

The Achievement Points Interface

Fresh Start Worlds will have a unique Achievement System to mark milestones on your journey. From your Side Panel Interface, you'll be able to see how many Achievement Points (AP) you've earned so far. After all, who doesn't like seeing numbers go up?

The updated version of the Side Panel interface for Fresh Start Worlds.

Achievement Points (AP) are awarded for participating in various activities across Gielinor. Accumulating AP is relatively straightforward, and many players won’t even realise they’re doing it! Activities such as Quests, Bossing, Achievement Diaries and completing Clue Scrolls all award AP.

AP doesn't give you access to any new rewards, but it's our way of promoting progression and rewarding newbies when they're on the right track. If you’re getting AP, you know you’re progressing nicely!

The Activity Advisor and existing Adventure Path system will also be present on Fresh Start Worlds. We're hoping these tools, alongside the new Achievement System, will help guide new players through the daunting early-game period. It's intended to help people feel like they're making good progress and reward them for doing so.

We're keen to see if this is a good additional tool for new players and we'll be assessing how it goes as a learning point for the future!

The Achievement System is there to encourage players to make progress in the game and reward newbies for activities that contribute to their overall progression. We'll be keeping an eye on feedback to see how the tool fares, as well as what we can learn from it!

Here are the weightings for AP per activity:

Activity Achievement Points (AP) Awarded

Total Level Increased by 1 4 AP

99 Achieved in any Skill 300 AP per 99

Quest Point Gained 10 AP

Boss Kill (General) (Repeatable) AP varies between 7-24 depending on the Boss

Boss Kill (First) Your first boss kill will award more AP than usual

Achievement Diary Task
  • Easy = 4 AP
  • Medium = 12 AP
  • Hard = 28 AP
  • Elite = 64 AP

Achievement Diary Tier Completion The total points for the tier, divided by 2.

For example, the Ardougne Medium diary has 12 tasks, so you'd be awarded ((12 * 12) / 2) = 72 points for completing the tier.

You must complete previous tiers to get these bonuses.

Combat Achievement Task
  • Easy = 4 AP
  • Medium = 12 AP
  • Hard = 28 AP
  • Elite = 64 AP
  • Master = 100 AP
  • Grandmaster = 150 AP

Combat Achievement Completion - Boss The total points for that boss, divided by 2.

For example, the Kalphite Queen has 5 tasks - 3 hard, 1 elite and 1 master, so you'd be awarded ((28 + 28 + 28 + 64 + 100) / 2) = 124 points for completing the Kalphite Queen tasks.

Combat Achievement Completion - Tier The total points for that tier, divided by 2.

For example, the Medium tier has 41 tasks, so you'd be awarded ((41 * 12) / 2) = 246 points for completing the Medium tier.

Clue Scroll Completion
  • Beginner = 3 AP
  • Easy = 6 AP
  • Medium = 14 AP
  • Hard = 30 AP
  • Elite = 62 AP
  • Master = 130 AP

We think this covers all the bases, but if there’s an achievement you think we’re missing, please do let us know!

Achievement Points will not be featured on the HiScores for Fresh Start Worlds, but if you're playing with friends, you should absolutely use it as a chance to compare your progress!

Worlds First System

Fresh Start Worlds is designed for new players, but if you have a bit more experience, you might want to take on the challenge of achieving a World First.

Like it says on the tin, World Firsts are our way of recognising players who are the first to do something awesome – like killing a boss, or reaching 99 in a skill.

Whenever someone achieves a World First, we’ll broadcast it, so everyone can recognise your achievement with a ‘w00t’, a ‘gz’, or even a ‘nice’.

Fresh Start Worlds is about sharing the adventure, and we want to show new players just how supportive our community is!

Here's the list of World Firsts we're planning to broadcast:

Boss Kill Diary Completion Levels Completionist Pets ItemsQuests

Being the first to kill a boss. Being the first to complete an Achievement or Combat Diary. Being the first to hit 99 in any skill OR being the first to hit max level. Being the first to earn a Quest Cape or Music Cape, or being the first to complete specific Collection Logs. Being the first to gain a pet. Being the first person to get an iconic item as a drop, including:

  • Abyssal Whip
  • Toxic Blowpipe
  • Bandos
Being the first to complete a Quest.

Are there any more broadcasts you'd like to see? Let us know and we'll add them to our radar before launch!

Bonds to Membership in Fresh Start Worlds

Fresh Start Worlds require a new account. We plan to eventually merge all Fresh Start accounts into the main game after six months, so if we allowed existing accounts to play, we wouldn’t be able to merge them back into the main game.

We’ve created a Bond-to-Voucher system which will let you gift membership from the main game over to your friend with a voucher code. To generate a code, open up the Bond Redemption menu in the main game, where you’ll see a new option: ‘Redeem a Voucher Code’.

Once generated, the voucher will be sent to the Player Inbox it was purchased on. You can then claim it for yourself or pass it along to someone else. Got a noob friend interested in Fresh Start Worlds? Why not gift them membership, so they can explore everything Gielinor has to offer?

The Player Inbox message you receive will look something like this:

Hi there, (NAME)!

Thank you for your purchase of a Membership Passcode. Your passcode is below.

You may redeem the code on one of your own RuneScape accounts, or give it to a friend for them to redeem.

To redeem the code yourself, you MUST first log into the account you’d like to receive the Membership credit. Once redeemed, the Membership will be applied to the account which is currently logged in. You can see which account is active in the top right of the code redemption screen.

(CODE)

The code can be redeemed after (TIME).

Please note that you cannot redeem Membership from the voucher in-game. You must log on to the Old School RuneScape website with the account you want Membership applied to, where you'll see the 'Redeem Code' option.

This new system has a lot of utility outside of just Fresh Start Worlds and we hope this makes gifting membership to your friends much easier!

Please note that all existing conversion fees to trade Bonds on the Grand Exchange or via other trade methods remain the same.

Opting-Out

Should you decide that Fresh Start Worlds isn’t for you, we’ve got a deal. Keep Nan out of the cage for another six months, and we’ll make sure you’re not stuck in Fresh Start Worlds!

No?

Sorry Nan, we tried.

How about this then? You can easily opt out of Fresh Start Worlds at any time using the Side Panel Interface. This action will transfer your account and all the items you’ve accrued to the main game, but watch out – this decision is IRREVERSIBLE.

Well, sort of. There is actually a three-day grace period to ensure you’ve really thought about this momentous decision. After all, you’re leaving behind thousands of other players on a mission to build a fresh world – it’s kind of a big deal!

If you still decide to leave Fresh Start Worlds after the three-day grace period, the following things will happen:
  • The account will be frozen out of the Fresh Start World HiScores.
  • The account will be transferred to the main game.
  • You will no longer be able to log into Fresh Start Worlds.

You must cancel any pending Grand Exchange transactions before opting out of Fresh Start Worlds, as you will be blocked from using it during the grace period.

If you happen to be logged in when the three-day countdown ends, you will be asked to re-log so you can complete the opt-out process.

Six Months Later...

When the event ends in six months, those Fresh Start Worlds will be no more. Erased from history, they will exist only in the memories of those who experienced this momentous event. Everyone who has been playing on Fresh Start Worlds will be seamlessly transported to the main game, as though it were all but a pleasant dream… or a nightmare, depending on how well the fresh economy has been going.

The following things will happen automatically when the event ends:
  • All accounts will be frozen on the Fresh Start Worlds HiScores.
  • All accounts will be transferred to the main game.
  • Nobody will be able to log in to Fresh Start Worlds.
  • Any pending Grand Exchange transactions on Fresh Start Worlds will be cancelled.

Players with pending G.E transactions will be required to log into a Fresh Start World once after the event has ended. This is because we can't process transactions unless you're logged into a Fresh Start World. When logging in for the last time, your transactions will be processed, you'll be logged out and you can then log in to normal worlds. This is why you may see some Fresh Start Worlds online after the end of the event - rest assured that we're not using them for anything except item processing.

By the way, when we say the transfer is ‘seamless’, we mean it! You’ll wake up in the exact same location you left your character in on Fresh Start Worlds, with all the same stuff. The only change you should notice is that there’ll be a lot more high-level players running around.

And that about wraps it up! Fresh Start Worlds launches on October 19th, and we can’t wait to see how it goes. We currently expect the end date to be Wednesday, April 19th 2023, although this may be subject to change.

Got any questions? Let us know on Discord, Reddit, Twitter, or the official forums.

Until then… stay fresh!

ToA Tweaks, Group Iron Man Changes & More! | Weekly Game Update (September 28th)

This week we’re making changes to Tombs of Amascut and Group Ironman Mode!

Tombs of Amascut Changes

We've updated how the supplies work:
  • Items can now be dropped to the ground directly from the Supplies Bag interface.
  • When withdrawing an item, the slot that was actually selected is the one that is withdrawn, instead of the one at the top of the Supplies Bag.
  • The jugs at Zebak have been given an attack delay, so you can preserve ammo by only attacking them once.

The summary board will now acknowledge any member that has left mid-raid, giving you a fresh new way to flame your salty teammates.

Fixed an issue where the Deadly Prayers Invocation was showing incorrect stats on the Summary interface for Prayer effectiveness.

The following items have now been marked as 'valuable' to stop any accidental drops:
  • Masori Crafting Kit
  • Ancient Remnant
  • Remnant of Zebak
  • Remnant of Kephri
  • Remnant of Ba-Ba
  • Remnant of Akkha

Group Ironman Changes

Next up, we've made some further changes to the deactivation settings for Ironman mode. Iron players have already been able to set a permanent flag on their account, preventing them from ever changing their status. As many of you had the choice made before the introduction of the Unranked Group Ironman mode, we are giving you another chance to change this. Please note that these choices are fully permanent and will not be subject to review by our Player Support team – so don't take this decision lightly!

Solo Iron players who are currently 'permanent' will receive a message upon logging in, stating that their permanent settings have changed to 'limited'. This means you can become an Unranked Group Ironman if you wish. However, you may still not become a main account.

Visiting the Iron Tutor in Lumbridge will allow you to choose the permanence of your Iron status – and in case it hasn't yet sunk in, you will be warned about the ramifications of this decision before you're allowed to make it.

You don’t have to make this decision immediately and can continue playing however you wish while you think it over.

Steam and Mobile Client Fixes

We’ve also been working on a variety of patches specifically for our Steam and Mobile clients:

  • Tweaked the new tooltips to make them easier to read - woohoo!
  • The shortcuts at Guardians of the Rift and south-west of the Necropolis are now highlighted by the Agility helper.
  • Redwood trees at the Farming Guild will now display their respawn timer when chopped.
  • Venom now correctly displays on the Buff Bar.
  • STEAM ONLY: Players can now complete the Stronghold of Security with either 2FA or Steam Guard enabled.
  • STEAM ONLY: Holding the shift key while on the Inventory and then switching to a different tab, letting go of shift, and then switching back to the Inventory will no longer keep the shift button active.
  • Clue steps which display a lot of text on the Clue Helper overlay will now have a scroll bar which lets you read the whole thing.
  • The Clue Helper display now correctly shows that you need Turquoise Robe Bottoms for the Easy Clue step by the Lumbridge Mill.
  • The cipher Clue where you need to talk to Eluned now correctly displays the World Map icon when looking at the Prifddinas map.
  • The spacing between lines on the Clue Helper overlay has been adjusted to shorten the gap between sections.
  • Fixed an issue where certain Quest clues weren't showing all relevant information.
  • The HP Bar will now correctly reappear when an entity is attacked at the exact same moment the previous HP Bar fades out.
  • Fixed an issue where the Herbiboar Helper was not updating correctly in certain scenarios.

Beta News

Good news, everyone! We’re keeping the Wilderness Boss Rewards Beta open for another week, as we’ve lowered the Voidwaker’s special attack cost to 50% (down from 60%) – so hop on in and test it out!

We’ve also made some plans regarding Poison Dynamite, based on your feedback. Here’s our to-do list:

  • Upgrade the Poison damage to P++ (previously P+)
  • Base damage type on player’s equipped weapon and attack style.
  • Prevent use of Poison Dynamite in the Fight Caves.
  • Prevent Dynamite from inflicting the Poison effect on 0 hits.
  • Prevent players from hitting multiple targets with Poison Dynamite, even in multi-way combat.
  • Easier targeting options were a big point in early feedback, and we have two alternatives we'd like your thoughts on:
    • Poison Dynamite will always hit a 3x3 area of attack. This also lets us update ‘fun’ weapons, making them -100 in all stats.OR
  • Poison Dynamite will become Thrown (or ‘Sticky’). The player must use the Dynamite on the NPC within a 1 tile range, with significant action delays.

One thing we will not be doing is changing the poison type to Venom. We feel this to be overpowered, and it goes against the premise of this new item.

Last bit of news on the Beta front – the Quest Speedrunning Beta has gone fantastically, and we’ll be working hard to make improvements based on your feedback before it launches.

Thank you to everyone who participated in these Betas and sent in feedback!

Other Changes

  • Players using the 'Quick-board' option on Zulrah's boat will no longer have their cameras forcibly locked in place to observe the snake's spawn animation, meaning they'll be able to start fighting the snake slightly faster.
  • Craw's Bow and Viggora's Chainmace bonuses will no longer apply to Magic Damage.
  • A spammy message about pet reclamation is no longer displayed on Tutorial Island, as the players there shouldn't need it.
  • Group Iron players are no longer permitted to travel from Lumbridge to The Node whenever the grouping system becomes temporarily unavailable, as they'd then be obliged to wait in The Node until the system became available again.
  • Salve Amulets now have a Make-All dialogue for stringing them, as other amulets do.
  • Players cutting Salve Shards from the outcrops after completing Haunted Mine will now continue cutting Shards until they cancel the action, without needing to click repeatedly.

PvP Rota Changes

The PvP rota has moved to Period B:
  • 560 - (UK) - PvP World
  • 579 - (US) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 561 - (Uk) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 580 - (US) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been de-activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Max/Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

You can also discuss this update on our official forums, on the 2007Scape subreddit, the Steam forums, or the community-led OSRS Discord in the #gameupdate channel. For more info on the above content, check out the official Old School Wiki.

Tombs of Amascut Changes & Beta Tweaks | Weekly Game Update (September 21st)

This week's game update sees us make a handful of tweaks to Tombs of Amascut and the ongoing betas!

Last week, we made some changes to Tombs of Amascut and activated beta worlds for Quest Speedrunning, Poison Dynamite and the Wilderness Boss Rework rewards.

Since then, a bunch of you have gotten in touch with suggestions that we've included in this week's update!

Tombs Of Amascut Tweaks

After a few weeks of dragging sand through the office, we feel like Tombs of Amascut is in a really great spot!

Our last set of changes included a handful of tweaks to Invocations, with a couple of unintended side effects.

Players using 'Need Less Help' noticed that the number of supplies being offered by mid-raid loot was lower than expected. This was an unintentional error on our end and has been fixed in today’s update.

Keen-eyed players noticed that the Summary screen in the Raid Setup interface wasn't accurately reflecting the Deadly Prayers Invocation. The Summary screen now accurately displays Prayer effectiveness in line with the removal of Silent Prayers and the addition of Deadly Prayers.

The crocodile spawns on the Path of Crondis were a little inconsistent, meaning that even tick-perfect players were occasionally having to make an extra run for water. We've improved the consistency of these spawns so players with a need for speed should find the room a little less frustrating.

The max hit threshold when mining the pillar on the Path of Het has been reduced from 102 Mining to 100 Mining. This should alleviate the need for players to keep track of boost timers and lead to more consistency on this Path.

The 'cascading X' attack during Wardens Phase 2 no longer does damage if a Warden is downed, in line with their other attacks.

Finally, Zebak was having trouble sinking his teeth in to players on certain tiles. The colossal croc is now able to melee players stood on the corners of the rocks in his lair.

Quest Speed Running Tweaks

We’ve really enjoyed watching you all zoom through our first offering of iconic quest speedruns. You’ve sent in lots of great ideas about how to make the experience even more enjoyable, and so we made a handful of hotfixes for you to get up to speed on:

  • Dropped items such as food or untradeables now follow the player between worlds while Quest Speedrunning.
  • Items dropped by the player during an active speedrun are now correctly deleted when the speedrun is abandoned. We plan to have items dropped by NPCs work the same way by launch.
  • Players are now able to abandon their current speedrun while in the Wilderness and should find themselves teleported back to Lumbridge as expected.
  • Ironman chat icons now display correctly on Quest Speedrunning worlds.
  • Players keybinds and other settings no longer reset when starting a new speedrun.

While not strictly speedrun related, we've also disabled the 'Switch View' button for Achievement Diary journals. Players should now be able to enjoy the fancy new Quest 'scroll' interface without any confusion as to what this button does.

Wilderness Boss Rework Tweaks

We’ve been carefully watching what you’ve been up to with the proposed rewards for the Wilderness Boss Rework and will be making changes accordingly.

It looks as though the upgraded Revenant weapons slot neatly into their role as 'anti-PK' weapons, helping PvMers fight back a little more vigorously against any would-be PKers.

In the Wilderness Boss Rework Design Blog, we made an amendment following early feedback that we would allow both Thamarron's and the Accursed Sceptre to autocast. We've adjusted these items on the Beta worlds so that players can properly experiment with them as Wilderness Slayer powerhouses.

We also spoke about the Voidwaker and our intent for it to be a best-in-slot non-degradeable Strength training option for 75 Attack builds, while still being outclassed in terms of DPS by staples like the Abyssal Whip. After experimenting, some players still feel the Voidwaker is a little lacklustre when compared to the Abyssal Bludgeon, so we've bumped its Melee Strength bonus from +75 to +80 on the Beta worlds.

It's worth remembering that this is still only a beta and that if players feel any of the rewards could use some further balancing, make sure to let us know!

A Mysterious Message...

Last week, we shared a post from Postie Pete about a mysterious message he'd received from a hooded stranger.

We've had our most inquisitive J-Mods figuring out what it means and will be sharing what we know later today.

Keep an eye on our social channels for more information...

Other Changes

Rounding off the week are a few smaller changes, let's take a look:

  • The Corporeal Beast's 'drain' attack will no longer hit players after they leave its lair.
  • A quiet audio cue is now played to adjacent players when a Barronite vein depletes in Camdozaal.
  • The Ancient Godsword's Special Attack effect is now cleared upon teleporting or leaving an instance by any means.
  • The Beta World supply chests now offer Menaphite Remedy potions.
  • The chat message for the Keris Partisan's special combat effect has had its wording adjusted.

Wilderness Boss Rewards and More! | Weekly Game Update (September 14th)

This week we’ve got a bunch of Beta worlds for you to explore, plus tweaks to Tombs of Amascut!

Wilderness Boss Rework Rewards and Poison Dynamite Beta

This is where you'll start your journey in this Beta!

What can we say, things just keep getting 'Beta' this week!

We've set up a bunch of extra channels within the official Old School Discord to help you leave your feedback, so check them out here!

First up, let’s look at the Beta for the Wilderness Boss Rework rewards and Poison Dynamite - if you're here for the Quest Speedrunning Beta, you'll need to keep scrolling.

As always, participating in a Beta won’t affect your normal saved game profile. The following Beta worlds are highlighted in blue on the World Select screen:

  • World 403 (US East)
  • World 405 (Germany)
  • World 407 (UK)
  • World 410 (US West)

Upon logging into a Beta world, your account is automatically set up with the new Wilderness Boss Rework Weaponry, a handful of Poison Dynamite and a trusty Tinderbox, along with most quests auto-completed. You’ll arrive in Ferox Enclave near the loadout table, which gives you a couple of options:

  • Left-click: Offers a wide selection of standard gear, preset loadouts and stats.
  • Right-click: Lets you customise your stats.

Your Inventory when you log in to a Beta World.

There's also an Altar nearby where you can switch your active Spellbook, along with some handy portals that take you to various locations around Gielinor.

So, time to take some new items for a spin! You can find out more about these updates in their respective newsposts, but let’s have a quick recap:

Wilderness Boss Rework: Rewards - Click to Expand

[expand="more" type="show"]

Please note these assets are placeholders and are still a WIP.

Accursed Sceptre

The Skull of Vet'ion will be a rare, tradeable drop from – you guessed it – Vet'ion! A player with 85 Crafting can combine the skull with Thammaron's Sceptre to obtain the Accursed Sceptre. If you don't have 85 Crafting, Andros Mai in the Ferox Enclave will combine them for 500,000 GP.

The Accursed Sceptre is a tradeable upgrade to the reworked Thammaron's Sceptre, with a Magic attack of 22 and a max hit that is your Magic level divided by three, minus six. This means that at 99 Magic you'll be hitting up to 27 Magic damage every four ticks/cycles.

The Accursed upgrade also gains a special attack: Condemn. Condemn costs 50% Special Attack energy and gives 50% increased max hit and 50% increased accuracy. On a successful hit, the target's Defense and Magic are reduced by up to 15%.

Defense and Magic reduction from Condemn cannot be lowered beyond 85% of their initial value. For a target with 80 Defence and 80 Magic, Condemn can’t reduce these stats any lower than 68.

Webweaver Bow

The Fangs of Venenatis will be a rare, tradeable drop from – you guessed it again! – Venenatis. A player with 85 Fletching can combine them with Craw's Bow to make a Webweaver Bow. Alternatively, Phabelle Bile in the Ferox Enclave can combine them for 500,000 GP.

The Webweaver Bow is a tradeable upgrade for Craw's Bow. It requires 70 Ranged to wield, has 85 Ranged attack bonus and 65 Ranged strength (compared to Craw's Bow's 75 Ranged attack and 60 Ranged strength) and gains a special attack: Swarm.

Swarm costs 50% Special Attack energy and unleashes four attacks in rapid succession with increased accuracy. Each of these attacks is capped at 40% damage, theoretically maxing out at 160% damage if every attack max hits. On top of this, successful attacks have a chance to inflict poison on hit, starting out at 4 poison damage.

Ursine Chainmace

The Claws of Callisto will be a rare, tradeable drop from... the Deranged Archaeologist! Just kidding, it's Callisto. A player with 85 Smithing can combine them with Viggora's Chainmace to make an Ursine Chainmace. Alternatively, head to the Ferox Enclave where Derse Venator can combine them for 500,000 GP.

The Ursine Chainmace is a tradeable upgrade for Viggora's Chainmace. It requires 70 Attack to wield, has 71 Crush Attack bonus and 74 Melee strength bonus (compared to Viggora's chainmace's 67 Crush Attack bonus and 66 Melee strength bonus) and gains a special attack: Bear Down.

Bear Down costs 50% special attack energy and hits with 100% improved accuracy. If Bear Down hits, it deals 15 damage over 6 seconds and drains 50% run energy over the same time. If a target has 0% run energy, the damage dealt will be doubled.

The Voidwaker

Some kind of a PvP weapon, with Void associations? It rings a bell, but nothing familiar is staring back at us right now...

Each of the three bosses will drop a piece of the separated Voidwaker; the Blade, Hilt and Crystal. As components, these items are tradeable. An NPC beneath the Old Nite will offer to reassemble the Voidwaker for 500,000 coins. The completed Voidwaker is also tradeable, and behaves like any other item on death.

The Voidwaker is a T75 Melee weapon requiring 75 Attack, 75 Strength and 60 Magic.

On top of offering a best-in-slot, non-degradable option for training Strength for any 75 Attack builds, the Voidwaker has a never-before-seen special attack: Disrupt.

Disrupt costs 60% Special Attack energy and deals guaranteed Magic damage between 50-150% of your Melee max hit.

New special attack aside, this item may look a little familiar – it's actually Korasi's Sword with a fresh lick of paint! It should fit a little better within Old School now (and without all those pesky skilling requirements, too).

You can find out more information within the Wilderness Boss Rework Design Blog.

Poison Dynamite - Click to Expand

[expand="more" type="show"]

Whoa! Eat veggies much?

Remember us talking about Poison Dynamite during Poll 76? Well, it’s nearly ready, but first we need your help! Log in to a Beta world and give it a whirl for us, would ya?

In case you missed it, Poison Dynamite is a new untradable item that allows you to kill NPCs without gaining XP. This means 10 HP accounts will be able to do various types of activities that they wouldn't otherwise be able to do. Nice!

Poison Dynamite can be created at 50 Firemaking with 1 Dynamite and 3 Nightshade and are lit and deployed like lighting logs, with a tinderbox etc. After 5 cycles the Poison dynamite will explode, rolling off your highest accuracy stat against the target’s appropriate defensive stat (if your ranged stat is highest, roll your ranged level vs the target's ranged defence). This will only hit the target if it is multi combat or if it's a single target and the player is in combat with it.

It will then deal 0-4 damage (depending on your Firemaking level), only hit the target on the coordinate it was deployed on, and have a 25% chance to poison the target if it deals damage (unless they are immune). Only 1 Dynamite may be deployed at any one time and will give you a small amount of Firemaking XP per lit Dynamite. This is to try and replicate the now removed spawn-hitting behaviour.

What do you think? Is Poison Dynamite the explosive shake-up you expected? Let us know!

Quest Speedrunning Beta

No glitched any% runs allowed here!

Quest Speedrunning arrives at the end of the month – you might even say it’s fast approaching. To make sure everything’s up to scratch, we want you to help us test the system!

But what is Quest Speedrunning? It’s a new game mode where you can play classic quests in Old School at high speed to show off your gaming prowess and quest knowledge: we wrote an explainer blog that you can check out.

For the Beta, we’ve selected a few quests that should be familiar to most players. Even if you’ve never tried speedrunning before, everyone can jump in and give it a go!

Again, participating in the Beta won’t affect your normal saved game profile. The Beta worlds are highlighted in cyan on the World Select screen and are different from the WBR and Poison Dynamite Beta Worlds. They will include the following:

  • World 404 (US East)
  • World 406 (Germany)
  • World 408 (UK)
  • World 411 (US West)
  • World 412 (Australia)

Upon logging on to a Speedrunning world, you’ll be prompted to select the quest you’d like to run. Once you’ve made your choice, the game will automatically adjust your stats to the recommended levels for the quest you’ve chosen, as well as provide all the relevant items. This keeps things fair and ensures that everyone starts in the same place.

A look at the speedrunning setup screen.

There are a few key differences between Speedrunning worlds and normal ones:

  • Dropped items behave as normal, but they will be deleted once the speedrun ends.
  • Death works as normal.

To discourage chicanery, the following rules apply to players on Speedrunning Worlds who are not on a speedrun:

  • XP gain is disabled.
  • Deaths are safe and any items dropped on death are immediately deleted. If you die while not on a speedrun, you will respawn in Lumbridge with the items you had.

So, let’s take a look at the five quests you’ll be able to test. Please note that during the Beta, trophies will not be unlocked, and any rewards you accrue will not carry over to the main game. This is for testing only!

Quest Journal Changes

Alongside this week's Beta Bonanza, we've made some improvements to the Quest Journal so you have all the vital information you need at your fingertips. The new-and-improved Journal lists quest series, length, difficulty, and release year - and there's also a handy 'Show on Map' button to help you find your way to the start point.

Let us know what you think of Quest Speedrunning before it launches at the end of this month!

Tombs of Amascut Changes

We have implemented presets for Tombs of Amascut! Now you can save up to five of your favourite raid loadouts and switch quickly between them. Only the party leader can edit and choose presets. Additionally, new players entering the raid for the first time are now introduced to the Invocation system.

Save your favourite raid set-ups with ease!

The player will have two options when introduced. If the player states that they are experienced, they will have a Normal Mode (Raid Level 150) preset saved as their first preset. Otherwise, the player will have first preset empty and will start with zero Invocations active.

We've also made some changes to a few of the Invocations:

  • Silent Prayers has been replaced with Deadly Prayers, a new Invocation that drains your prayer by 20% of damage taken, rounding down. This is worth 20 Raid Level.
  • Upset Stomach has gone from 10 to 15 Raid Level.
  • Stay Vigilant has gone from 10 to 15 Raid Level.
  • Feeling Special l has gone from 15 to 20 Raid Level.
  • No Help Needed has changed from a 100% loot reduction to 90% loot reduction. The supplies offered cannot be reduced below one.

In other changes:

  • You will no longer get duplicate drops of Keris Partisan Jewels until you have received all three at least once.
  • Elidinis' Ward (or) now correctly boosts Magic Strength by 5% rather than 3%.
  • The Max Cape version of the Ava's Assembler Ornament Kit can now be converted into a Trouver version and can be stored within your Player-Owned House.
  • The Kit itself can also be used directly on the Assembler Max Cape, instead of getting another Vorkath Head.
  • We've made some artistic tweaks to the Max Cape version of the Ava's Assembler Ornament Kit.
  • The Path of Het challenge room now has a Pickaxe Statue near the exit.
  • Fixed an issue causing Akkha's Phantom to change styles way too often when using the 'Stay Vigilant' Invocation.
  • The Arcane Scarab now plays the correct spawn animation during the Kephri encounter.
  • Interfaces can now be opened if a bomb is flying towards you as the Obelisk is defeated during the Warden encounter.
  • Fixed the issue in Phase 3 where the Warden would stop attacking for a brief moment after one of the players died.
  • Fixed a second issue in the Wardens Phase 3 where the lightning would sometimes stop unexpectedly.
  • You can now select the various difficulty levels of Tombs of Amascut as possible activities for a clan event.
  • When Akkha changes attack styles it will now stop the player from attacking, similar to the Nylocas boss in theatre of blood.
  • Fixed an issue where crocodiles were not being cleaned up in the Zebak boss fight.
  • Fixed an issue where players could sometimes walk inside of rubble in Baba's boss fight.

Other Changes

Here are some smaller changes:

  • Mac users rejoice! You can now access the new Steam Client, through Steam, obviously.
  • The Grand Exchange's trading rate caps for Catalytic Runes have been raised a little. They may be able to increase further if the supply of Runes into the GE can satisfy this increased outflow.
  • The Corrupted Gauntlet's unicorns no longer have a cool but ultimately superfluous triangle floating to the right of their head.
  • An unnecessarily hurtful insult has been removed from the fight against Me in Lunar Diplomacy.
  • Clan members who have temporarily left their clan's chat-channel will not trigger broadcasts to that channel about their loot or similar achievements.
  • A crate near the Lumbridge water mill has been converted back into a fence.
  • You can now cook on the fire at Port Khazard by left-clicking or tapping on it.
  • Getting hit while wearing a Torva Chestpiece now sounds suitably metallic.

PvP Rota Changes

The PvP rota has moved to Period B:

  • 560 - (UK) - PvP World
  • 579 - (US) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 561 - (Uk) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 580 - (US) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Max/Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.
