How I'm building the next On My Own game

Hey OMO fans - the latest development update for New Frontier is here!

The latest build of the game has a revamped code base, meaning new items, animals, and features are a lot easier for me to add now. :D

I’ve also been working on a new art style that captures the essence of the first game a bit more than our prototype did.

What do you think about the latest build of New Frontier? Thanks for watching, hope you are having a great summer! ☀️

Dreaming up a "New Frontier"

“Pre-production” has almost wrapped for On My Own: New Frontier — meaning the Map, Biomes, Project Plan, scope, and Game Design Document are being finalized in the coming weeks. Reply below with any final requests for items/animals/etc. you’d like to see in the game!

I’ve also been designing some brand new characters for the game. To learn more, check out our latest devlog:

When we first announced New Frontier in late July 2021, our process seemed like a mad dash to get something – anything – out there.

But I changed my approach after reflecting on the themes & values of the On My Own brand: slow, thoughtful living, personal empowerment, and finding beauty in the journey.

I only get one shot to make On My Own: New Frontier, and I’ve been asking myself, “What do I want to say with this game? What have I learned about life that I feel is important to impart?”

So, yeah, that’s what I’ve been working on as I prepare for the next stage: full-on art production and Unity development.

Why we're making a new OMO game:
Over the past couple years we've received feedback from On My Own (OMO) fans asking for additional content and features to be added to the game.

After reviewing the OMO codebase and some of our original design decisions, we realized how much we'd need to rework the game in order to expand it. We decided it was best to retain the original OMO as it was and instead start working on a sequel built from the ground up.

Wilderness Living:
In addition to the survival mechanics of the first game, players will be able to set down roots in the wilderness, building out a frontier home. They'll also be able to use a tent to roam freely and discover new landmarks.

Progress on the Game:
We currently have a playable prototype that we built with guest developer Ruben Tipparach. We're working towards hiring a new developer to help us scale the game.

Future Plans:
We want to build OMO: New Frontier so that it can easily accommodate new features and content over a long period of time. Give our Steam or YouTube page a follow to stay up to date on our progress!

Release Date:
No release date yet, but our first target is getting an early access version of the game out on Steam later this year (Update: This was an internal goal, we'll keep you posted when we are getting closer to release).
