Also:
  • Fixed a problem where a 2 hero game with Caliana could incorrectly end even though you had a potion to auto-heal the other hero.
  • Various minor bug fixes and improvements were made.

Where my trading cards at?

Last time we mentioned that trading cards were in the works, and they still are! We've had to make some adjustments based on Valve's review and they should be available pretty soon. Hang in there! Here's another preview to whet your whistle.

What's New in Version 1.1 - Caliana & Fanatic

This update includes support for two new DLC heroes! You can see them by scrolling to the right in the New Game screen.

Caliana Asmadi, mascot of Asmadi Games, has decided that dungeoneering looks fun! As a faerie, she’s not so much bound by the normal human hero laws of “health” and “gravity.” If she’d take damage for any reason, she gets bored and leaves the dungeon instead!

Fanatic has crossed over from Sentinels of the Multiverse, and is here to smite evil wherever it may lurk. In this disparate reality, she seeks out and destroys evil within the darkest dungeons!

Also coming soon are Steam Trading Cards! We are still putting on the finishing touches, but here's a quick preview:

Other fixes and improvements include:

  • The New Game screen now indicates how to view the full cards.
  • Basic skills are now listed in the Card Library under Other Cards.
  • Fixed a display issue that could occur when the Wraith converts an item to XP.
  • Fixed a bug where the All Maxed Out achievement would not unlock.

What's New in Version 1.0.1 - Bug Fixes

This update has various bug fixes and improvements, including:
  • Added options to skip Explore, Open Door, and Roll Dice animations.
  • Added a sound effect when revealing the Phoenix.
  • Optimized disk and memory usage, improving performance and reducing the size of the game.
  • Fixed a bug where using Undo after revealing the boss could cause the game to get stuck.
  • Potions can no longer be used during animations, which could cause problems.
  • Dice are no longer affected by clicks/taps when you have other dialogs open on top of them.
  • Fixed a bug where the game could get stuck in the Claim Loot phase in certain situations.

Version 1.0 Officially Released

This is not an Early Access update - it's the real deal! One Deck Dungeon has officially left Early Access and version 1.0 is now available.

Phoenix's Den

The main new feature in version 1.0 will be the first expansion dungeon, available as downloadable content. The first thing you'll notice is the sweltering heat. The further you go into the dungeon, the more your enemies will doggedly pursue you. And to finally reach the Phoenix itself, you must endure its terrifying screech. Only the bravest heroes can handle the heat of the Phoenix's Den!

Other Improvements

This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones:

Features
  • Resolution and full screen options are now set in-game on Windows and macOS.
  • Optimized disk and memory usage, improving performance and reducing the size of the game.

Interactions
  • Attempting to drag a die that's locked in an armor box will give you feedback so you know why it's locked there.

Info Display
  • When the Claim Loot step is skipped because of the Beetle's effect, it's more clear.
  • The end game screen shows the dungeon floor that you reached.

Bug Fixes
  • Cunning talent would be highlighted in some cases where it was not usable.
  • Triple Strike skill could get stuck when you had to discard a die from the general supply.

What's Next

Just because we're out of Early Access doesn't mean we are finished with the game. We'll continue to make improvements and add more content. More expansion dungeons and heroes are coming soon, followed by the full Forest of Shadows expansion. Thanks for playing and we still welcome your feedback!

Official Release Date: May 18

One Deck Dungeon will be leaving Early Access and entering retail release on Friday, May 18th. Additionally, the mobile release will happen 5 days later, on May 23rd on iTunes and Google Play. The retail price of the game will be $9.99 (USD) across all platforms.

A huge thanks goes out to all those who participated in Early Access. The game is so much better as a result of your thorough playtesting and feedback, both in terms of little things like visual polish, or big things like the undo feature. We couldn't have done it without you!

The first of the DLC dungeons (Phoenix's Den) is now in testing, and the first DLC hero (Fanatic) will be in testing soon.

You can read more about our mobile plans on our Kickstarter update.

One More Thing

We would hate for you to miss the Forest for the trees so today we have one more surprise for you...

In conversations with Chris from Asmadi after the Kickstarter funded, we all decided that we wanted to bring Forest of Shadows to digital as soon as possible. As a result, we’ve been sneakily working on the engine for it while we’ve been finalizing the retail release of One Deck Dungeon!

There’s still tons of work to do, but we’re much further along that you might guess (since before today, a good guess would be “they haven’t even started”). Basically, we’re not out of the woods yet. But we are trunking right along and branching into new areas for this expansion, and we promise to let you know when it’s ready to leaf development!

Early Access Update #4: Undo, Gauntlet Mode, and more!

Our fourth major Early Access update has the most oft-requested feature from you, the players: undo! Oh, and a little thing called Gauntlet Mode... read on for all the details!

Undo

The people have spoken, and we have listened! This feature has been in the works for a while because we wanted to make sure it struck the right balance within the gameplay of One Deck Dungeon.

During the game you can use the new Undo button to go back after making a decision in most cases. This means you can change your mind after fleeing, using a skill or potion, claiming loot, converting dice into a heroic die, descending, etc.

However, when any new information is revealed, you can no longer go back from that point. For example:
  • Whenever dice are rolled, you can no longer go back.
  • When a door card is flipped face up, you can no longer go back.
  • When face-down cards are discarded (usually by spending time), you can go back as long as you don't view the discard pile. Once you view the discard pile, you can no longer go back.

We hope you enjoy this new feature, and are happy to keep listening if there are ways we can make it better!

Gauntlet Mode

Are you ready for the ultimate test of your One Deck Dungeon skill? The goal of Gauntlet Mode is to defeat each of the bosses in as few total games as possible. You start with a blank checklist and bring a different party to each game. Gauntlet Mode games and checklists are recorded separately from regular games and checklists.

In order to access Gauntlet Mode, you need to prove your worth by defeating each of the core game bosses in regular mode. You can choose any difficulty level for each game, and your final score will be recorded on the leaderboard of the lowest difficulty across all games. To get a rank on the higher difficulty leaderboards, you need to play each game at that difficulty or harder.

Card Library Screen

A brand new screen is now accessible from the main menu - Card Library. This screen allows you to review the details of each hero, dungeon, encounter, and other card in the game at your leisure.

Other Improvements

This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones:

Info Display
  • Click the XP lantern track to view the cards you've claimed as XP.
  • Click the hourglass to view the cards in the discard pile (note the interaction with undo above).
  • When viewing your full hero card, you can click Item and Skill buttons to view their full cards all together.
  • The other XP Level cards are now accessible in-game.
  • When viewing a full encounter card, you can see the status of that card for the Monster Hunter and Librarian achievements.

Interactions
  • If you lose a game, the end game screen has a Try Again button to play the same game setup again.

Bug fixes
  • If the general supply had no more agility or strength dice, Force Bolt would not work properly.
  • If the general supply had no more heroic dice and both heroes used Armor Crush, it would not work properly.

What's Next

We are getting close to the end of Early Access and the 1.0 launch. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!

0.8.1 & 0.8.2 Update - Bug Fixes & New Sound Effects

Hot on the heels of version 0.8 we've released a small patch with a few bug fixes and improvements.

  • The main Statistics screen now allows you to view global stats for different time periods.
  • Every encounter and boss now has a unique appearance sound effect.
  • Some other sound effects have been improved and adjusted.
  • If only one hero is wounded, they will be chosen for healing automatically.
  • Die rolling stat recording has been improved to fix a glitch in the data.

Update: A further fix to stats reporting has been posted as version 0.8.2.

Early Access Update #3: Achievements and Stats

Our third Early Access update is all about achievements and statistics. Read on for all the details!

Achievements

Starting with version 0.8 you can earn Steam achievements in One Deck Dungeon. We've created 34 achievements ranging from the simple (defeat the Dragon) to the difficult (win a game on Fearless) to the diabolical (win a game without claiming an item as loot). Happy hunting!

(no spoilers here!)

Statistics

A brand new Statistics screen shows your all-time win/loss records and various other interesting items. You can compare your own stats with the global totals across all players on Steam. At the end of each game, you can check your stats for that game as well.

Note: Achievements and stats will not be counted on any games in progress from the previous version. They will be tracked starting with your first new game.

System Requirements Update

As we move forward with updates to our underlying game engine (Unity), the minimum system requirements have changed. Windows XP and DirectX 9 are no longer supported.
  • Windows OS: Windows Vista SP1+
  • Graphics card: DX10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities

Other Improvements

This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones:

Features:
  • Steam Community Leaderboards track your total wins on each difficulty level
  • Reset completed hero progression checklists in the New Game screen to increase their Prestige

Visual Polish:
  • Improved animation when descending to meet the boss

Interactions:
  • Toggle selected Basic Skill from the full checklist view in the New Game screen
  • Added button to view hero progression help from the full checklist view

Info Display:
  • When a skill causes a hero to heal, the damage icon animates toward the skill responsible

Bug Fixes:
  • If you used a healing potion while deciding which hero would take damage, that could cause the game to get stuck
  • Certain skills could be used when they would have no effect; now they will be disabled in that case
  • The warning confirmation displayed when using a potion in certain peril encounter situations had a glitchy layout
  • Quickly clicking dice in a wide box will no longer cause a display glitch
  • The First Aid talent would not always take effect properly in 2 hero mode

What's Next

Still to come before the 1.0 launch are Gauntlet (quest) mode, limited undo support, and more. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!
